A cool breeze scattered in all directions. The fragmented noises that drifted out carried not the slightest hint of intimacy—only sheer terror.
Fortunately, the Ji family courtyard was large enough, and Hu Chunhua and Ji Shan were already old. No matter how much they thrashed about under the effects of the drug, they couldn’t make enough of a commotion to become the laughingstock of the neighbors.
Jiu Yue’s expression suddenly darkened, her gaze turning icy. There was none of her usual cheerful, smiling demeanor left. Ji Dahu’s heart jolted, and in that instant, it was as if he finally understood something.
When Jiu Yue inflicted violence on them before, she always did so with a smile, but she had never truly intended to take their lives.
But now—this Jiu Yue, having shed her playful grin, was filled with genuine killing intent. Her palm faced downward, slowly gathering strength as it rotated, one hand forming into a hook.
Ji Dahu lunged forward, only to be grabbed tightly by Shen Mei. Biting her lower lip, she didn’t even dare cry out. They could all see it clearly—Jiu Yue really was going to kill someone.
“Don’t go, don’t go…”
Ji Dahu’s legs gave out. For the first time, he knelt before Jiu Yue. “Niece-in-law… Jiu Yue…” At that moment, he deeply regretted having sent Ji Dahai and Su Ruo away.
If Ji Dahai and Su Ruo were here, perhaps for their sake, Jiu Yue might stop.
As he spoke, Jiu Yue slowly lifted her hand. Ji Dajiang scrambled backward on hands and knees, not even bothering to cry or wail. Jiu Yue was coming to kill him—she really was coming to kill him!
At that critical moment, Li Xiaocao—who had remained expressionless and motionless all this time—suddenly dropped to her knees before Jiu Yue. “Jiu… Jiu Yue, can you not kill him?”
Jiu Yue looked at Li Xiaocao coldly. This woman drew her attention even more easily than Shen Mei. Her eyes were completely devoid of light, her expression numb and hollow—anyone could tell at a glance that she had long since lost all desire to live.
It wasn’t hard to guess the cause. It had to be Ji Dajiang. And now, with a single strike from Jiu Yue, the man who had shackled her for half her life would vanish into nothingness.
If Jiu Yue wanted, she had hundreds of ways to kill Ji Dajiang silently. But that wouldn’t be intimidating enough. The Ji family wasn’t worth much, but they kept buzzing around again and again, which annoyed her.
Kill one, scare the rest—end it once and for all.
Yet Li Xiaocao actually begged for Ji Dajiang’s life. Jiu Yue shook her head. “Give me a reason that can convince me.”
Ji Dajiang never expected Li Xiaocao to plead for him. He burst into ugly sobs, tears and snot streaming all over his face, so disgusting that Jiu Yue felt sick just looking at him.
Li Xiaocao lifted her head, her eyes full of hatred. “He doesn’t need to die. Let him live—unable to speak, unable to move, unable to hear. Is that okay?”
Whoa. Ruthless. If Jiu Yue weren’t certain that Li Xiaocao wasn’t some sadistic lunatic, she would’ve thought Li Xiaocao wanted to turn Ji Dajiang into a human pig.
Ji Dajiang’s brief moment of gratitude ended abruptly. Even though his whole body was weak, he still tried to slam into Li Xiaocao, kicking her when his wrists wouldn’t work.
Li Xiaocao remained kneeling before Jiu Yue, letting Ji Dajiang kick her several times.
“If he dies, I’ll be a widow. My mother from my natal family and that old hag in the house will definitely conspire to sell me. But as long as Ji Dajiang can’t move, they’ll need someone to take care of him.”
Jiu Yue let out a drawn-out “Oh?”
“Wow, you’re amazing—still planning to take care of him.”
Li Xiaocao couldn’t hear the sarcasm in Jiu Yue’s voice, nor did she understand what lay beneath her words. “As for how he lives, that’ll be up to me. If I want to beat him, I’ll beat him. If I want to curse him, I’ll curse him. If I want to feed him pig slop, I’ll feed him pig slop. Even if I feed him shit, he’ll have to swallow it.”
Shen Mei’s mouth fell open. Ji Dahu trembled, desperately recalling whether he had ever treated Shen Mei poorly or done anything particularly excessive to her.
Who would have thought that this usually timid, dull sister-in-law could be so vicious when she snapped?
“I want him to live. If he dies, it’s all over. Then all the suffering I endured these past years would’ve been for nothing.”
Ji Dajiang gaped, unable even to cry anymore.
Jiu Yue didn’t bother guessing why Li Xiaocao hated Ji Dajiang so much.
Their mismatched appearances, and the marks that occasionally showed on Li Xiaocao’s skin, made it easy enough to imagine what kind of inhuman life she had lived under Ji Dajiang all these years.
Jiu Yue stroked her chin and nodded in agreement. “Makes sense.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Ji Dajiang seemed to snap back to his senses. He scrambled backward, then spotted Ji Xiaoya edging closer to his daughter. “Xiao Ya, Xiao Ya…”
But Jiu Yue didn’t waste words on him. She slowly walked behind Ji Dajiang, planted one foot on his back—so heavy it felt like a thousand jin—and then everyone watched as Jiu Yue lightly brushed her hand along the grooves of his back before yanking upward hard, as if she had torn his very bones out.
Ji Dajiang opened his mouth. Jiu Yue clamped both hands around his jaw—crack. His scream cut off abruptly.
After finishing all this, Jiu Yue stood up and dusted off her hands, as if she’d just done some trivial chore. “Alright. Can’t speak. Can’t move below the head. Eyes can see. Ears can hear.”
Li Xiaocao kowtowed to Jiu Yue. She knew she was a vicious woman, but she truly couldn’t go on living like this anymore. Under Ji Dajiang’s influence, her son was gradually going astray, and her daughter was becoming more and more timid and self-abasing, just like her.
Even for the sake of her two children, she couldn’t allow Ji Dajiang to keep tormenting them like this.
Not daring to trouble anyone else, Li Xiaocao stood up and dragged Ji Dajiang by the arm, not caring whether there were stones or dirt on the ground, hauling him back into the house just like that.
Jiu Yue nodded in approval. She wasn’t a savior, nor did she intend to be one. She had even less sympathy for pitiful yet spineless women.
Anger at their weakness and pity for their misfortune—neither was of any use.
In this world, it was nothing more than “none of your damn business” or “none of my damn business.” Jiu Yue thought that made perfect sense.
Turning her head, she saw Ji Dahu and Shen Mei supporting each other. Jiu Yue’s brows curved into a smile. “Second Uncle, what did you just see?”
Ji Dahu and Shen Mei exchanged a glance and frantically waved their hands. “We didn’t see anything. We saw nothing at all.”
Sounds came from the main hall. Shen Mei looked at Jiu Yue timidly and whispered to Ji Dahu, “Why do I feel like Jiu Yue could’ve cured the drug herself, but she just… didn’t?”
At the mere mention of Jiu Yue’s name, Ji Dahu started trembling all over. What she had done to Ji Dajiang just now was terrifying—purely with her hands, no tools at all.
A grown man, completely paralyzed in just a few moves. She wanted him unable to speak, and he couldn’t speak. Wanted him unable to move, and he couldn’t move.
He hurriedly shoved Shen Mei. “You… you stop talking!” He was about to piss himself in fear, okay?
