BDSMST -Chapter 180 The Whole Family Mobilizes for the “Expectant Mother”

Ever since Jiang Suisui was confirmed to be pregnant, the top priority in The Greatest Estate in the World had shifted from ocean voyages and agricultural expansion to one single concern—how to take care of the expectant mother.

The entire estate’s operations were overhauled, revolving entirely around Jingxin Courtyard.

The biggest change was Gu Yan.

The same general who was decisive on the battlefield and unwavering on the training grounds seemed to have turned overnight into a fumbling, flustered young man.

He had every book on women’s health and pregnancy from both the capital and Jinling gathered and piled half a study room high. Every night, he abandoned official business, lit a lamp, picked up a brush, and meticulously annotated these medical texts, his focus sharper than when studying battle maps.

He personally oversaw Jiang Suisui’s diet. Every dish had to pass his inspection, and he even tasted them himself, ensuring nothing was too cold, too hot, too salty, or too bland. The head chef in the kitchen complained incessantly under this scrutiny but dared not voice a single word of discontent.

Gu Yan wanted to have Jiang Suisui by his side twelve hours a day. Even if she took just a few extra steps in the courtyard, he would anxiously follow behind, hands ready to steady her, fearful she might trip over a nonexistent pebble.

“Gu Yan,” Jiang Suisui laughed one afternoon as he again tried to carry her from the deck chair back to her room, “I’m only pregnant, not paralyzed. If you keep this up, I’ll start to feel moldy.”

Gu Yan remained serious, carefully covering her with a thin blanket. “Doctor Zhang said the first three months are the most critical. We can’t be careless for even a moment.”

His face displayed unwavering resolve. His clumsy, overprotective care made Jiang Suisui feel both warm and amused.

Even more intense were the Old Marquis and Old Madam.

The Old Madam had practically moved her entire household to a side wing of Jingxin Courtyard. She dismissed most of Jiang Suisui’s maids and personally handled every task. From daily tonic soups to incense, from bedding softness to room arrangements, she meticulously checked every detail herself.

The Old Marquis, Gu Changming, issued a strict decree: no one in Woniu Village, no matter how small the matter, was allowed to disturb Madam. Issues had to go through him, Gu Yan, or Steward Wang. Anyone daring to bother his granddaughter-in-law with trifles would be sent to clean the pigsty for a month.

With this decree, Jiang Suisui became a true “hands-off” lady, living a life of being waited on hand and foot.

The most delighted—and most curious—family member was Gu Xuan.

The little boy completely abandoned his ship models and machinery studies. His greatest joy every day was to lie atop Jiang Suisui’s belly.

At this stage, her abdomen barely showed, but Gu Xuan, like a tiny detective, pressed his ear against it with intense focus.

“Mother, mother, I think I heard something today!” he said, eyes sparkling with mystery.

“Oh? What did you hear?” Jiang Suisui smiled at him.

“I heard a ‘glug-glug’ sound, like swimming!” Gu Xuan demonstrated with his hands. “It must be training inside! Grandpa said martial arts start from a young age!”

“Maybe it’s your little sister doing somersaults in there?” Jiang Suisui teased him.

“Little sister?” Gu Xuan thought for a moment, then nodded seriously. “Okay! If it’s a sister, I’ll give her my mechanical little bird to help me draw plans. Sister Ling’er said girls are better with delicate work.”

His earnest, childlike seriousness had everyone laughing heartily.

Days passed peacefully and warmly. Jiang Suisui’s morning sickness gradually subsided, her complexion improved, and her belly began to visibly swell.

One quiet night, Gu Yan, as usual, was soaking Jiang Suisui’s feet in warm water to relieve the day’s swelling. His movements were gentle, his expression focused, as if handling a priceless treasure.

Jiang Suisui gazed at his sharp-profiled face and the eyes always filled with worry, her heart softening.

“Gu Yan,” she whispered, “don’t be so nervous. Our child will be perfectly healthy.”

Gu Yan looked up, holding her ankles and gently pressing the acupoints. After a pause, he murmured in a low, almost hushed voice, “I can face thousands of troops without flinching. But Suisui… the moment I think of any risk to you or our child… my heart empties completely.”

A trace of vulnerability crept into his voice—something he hadn’t revealed before. The heroic man had finally found a soft spot in his role as husband and father.

Jiang Suisui felt a bittersweet warmth and reached out her hand.

Gu Yan understood and sat beside her. Jiang Suisui cupped his face and pressed a gentle kiss to his forehead.

“Don’t be afraid. With you here, I fear nothing.”

He held her hand to his lips, remaining silent for a long while. Moonlight filtered softly through the window screens, casting their elongated shadows across the room.

Just as this serene moment seemed eternal, hurried footsteps broke the night’s silence.

Steward Wang whispered urgently outside the door, barely concealing his anxiety: “General, Madam, a secret envoy from the capital… has arrived.”
