The early summer sun cast a perfect warmth over the docks of Jinling Port.

After nearly a year of construction and preparation, the Explorer fleet—consisting of five Flying Fish ships—was finally ready for its maiden voyage.

The docks were packed with people, colorful flags fluttered, and gongs and drums echoed. The five massive Flying Fish ships were moored side by side, their hulls gleaming new, sails half-rolled, like five powerful beasts poised to spring—embodying both strength and elegance. Each mast bore two flags: one, the dragon banner of Great Xia; the other, Woniu Village’s emblem with the motto “Bend like the ox, rise like the sword.”

It was a day worthy of being recorded in history.

Jiang Suisui stood atop the highest observation platform at the port, emotions swirling. Beside her were Gu Yan and Bai Yutang, equally moved. On the deck of the fleet’s flagship, Explorer One, Bai Ling’er, dressed in a crisp navigator’s uniform, was performing final inspections alongside the chief captain. After much effort, she had finally secured her role as a “technical advisor” for this historic voyage.

“Madam, look at that girl—she’s really grown into her role,” Bai Yutang said, pointing to his daughter with undeniable pride.

Jiang Suisui smiled and nodded. She was giving instructions to the fleet’s chief scholar regarding plant specimen collection and preservation. This scholar, the finest student from the Agricultural Academy, would document all new discoveries during the voyage.

“The auspicious hour has arrived! Set sail!”

With a ceremonial officer’s loud proclamation, the excitement on the docks reached its peak.

“Woo—”

The five ships simultaneously blew long, majestic horns. The sound was primal, awe-inspiring, as if echoing from the dawn of time.

The crowd erupted in thunderous cheers. Colorful ribbons and petals rained down, landing on the ships and dancing across the water.

Crew members cast off the moorings, and the enormous sails of Explorer One unfurled first.

But at that very moment, as the horns blared into the sky, Jiang Suisui suddenly felt the world tilt.

The surrounding clamor seemed muffled, distant, and blurred, as if separated by a thick layer of cotton. Everything swayed and spun, and the flags on the docks transformed into radiant halos of color.

Her knees weakened, and her body involuntarily pitched forward.

“Suisui!”

A frantic voice cut through her confusion.

Gu Yan, always vigilant, sensed something was wrong the instant her body wavered. He instinctively leapt across half the observation platform, catching her securely in his arms just before she fell.

“Suisui, what’s wrong?” His voice trembled ever so slightly.

Leaning against his solid chest, the dizziness began to subside, replaced by a wave of nausea. Her face was pale, and a fine sweat dotted her forehead.

The sudden scene froze the celebratory atmosphere atop the platform.

“Quick! Call the doctor!” Steward Wang shouted the fastest, alerting everyone below.

Chaos ensued immediately. Without a word, Gu Yan scooped Jiang Suisui into his arms, carrying her swiftly through the crowd toward the waiting carriage under the militia’s protection.

Back at Woniu Village’s estate, tension hung thick in the air. The most renowned physician of Jinling, Doctor Zhang, was summoned at once to Jingxin Courtyard.

Inside the room, the Old Marquis, the Old Madam, and Gu Yan, who had just returned, held their breaths as Doctor Zhang examined Jiang Suisui’s pulse.

Time seemed to slow.

Doctor Zhang’s wrinkled hands rested lightly on her wrist. His brows furrowed and relaxed in turn as he closed his eyes, listening intently as though deciphering a secret language of life itself.

The room felt oppressively silent.

Finally, Doctor Zhang withdrew his hands. He opened his eyes, and the stern expression melted into a wide, beaming smile.

He rose and bowed deeply to the anxious Gu Yan and the Old Marquis.

“Congratulations, General, congratulations, Old Marquis, and congratulations, Old Madam!” His voice was loud and joyous. “Madam is not ill—this is a joyful pulse! By my diagnosis, she has been pregnant for over two months!”

The announcement hit like a thunderclap of happiness, exploding in everyone’s mind.

The Old Madam clasped her hands together, whispering several times, “Amitabha,” tears brimming. The Old Marquis’ usually composed face broke into a broad smile, his hand trembling slightly as he stroked his beard.

Gu Yan, however, froze in place.

He looked at Jiang Suisui on the bed, equally surprised and stunned, then at Doctor Zhang, as if unable to believe what he’d heard.

“Doctor… Doctor Zhang, you mean… Suisui…”

“Absolutely!” Doctor Zhang confirmed with a cheerful laugh. “The General is going to be a father!”

A surge of warmth coursed through Gu Yan. He hurried to the bed, sitting beside her and gently taking her hand.

He didn’t know what to say, only gazed at her. His deep eyes overflowed with joy, tenderness, and protectiveness, tinged with the bewilderment of a new father. He pressed her warm hand against his cheek, finally confirming that this was real, not a dream.

Outside the window, the Explorer fleet had vanished where the sea met the sky, beginning a great new era.

Inside the room, a tiny new life quietly announced its arrival, opening the gentlest chapter of their lives.
