Sun Desheng’s hospital bed was empty. He and Shen La didn’t know where they had gone. Only Che Qianzi remained in the ward—along with Kong Dalong, covered in blood.
Seeing his old master, Che Qianzi immediately jumped out of bed.
“What happened to you? Got beaten up by some married man you were fooling around with?” he blurted as he rushed over. “I’ve told you so many times—don’t mess with people who already—”
Before he could finish, he reached out to grab the old Daoist.
But his hand passed straight through Kong Dalong’s body.
He froze.
“You… they killed you…”
Che Qianzi’s eyes widened as he stared at the still-bleeding ghost.
“They didn’t just beat you… they killed you? A beating would’ve been enough… how did it become a murder… Old man, are you here to give me a dream message?”
Tears began to pour down his face uncontrollably.
Kong Dalong also began to cry, letting out muffled sobs.
After a long moment of mutual weeping, the old man said:
“I died unjustly… they pinned the blame for the Yian Tower incident on me. That man surnamed Ren… he sent people to arrest me. They didn’t even ask questions—they just shot me on the spot…”
“You can’t ignore this… I raised you… you have to avenge me…”
Che Qianzi had originally thought the old man had been beaten to death over some scandal involving women—something shameful that would’ve made it hard for him to seek revenge.
But now that he heard it was Ren Rong’s people framing and killing him, a surge of rage shot straight to his head.
“Old man, wait. On the seventh day after your death, I’ll bring you his head.”
Kong Dalong wiped his tears.
“That bastard surnamed Ren has already sealed up news of my death. Even if you ask him, he won’t admit it… And that Sun guy isn’t a good person either. He knew Ren was framing me, but he didn’t tell you—he was just using you to dig into me from the start…”
Hearing Sun Desheng’s name, Che Qianzi paused slightly.
He recalled how Sun Fatty had vaguely hinted that Kong Dalong was connected to Room 808 of the Yian Tower.
But he didn’t believe Sun Desheng was on the same side as Ren Rong.
He had been with that fat man for months—Sun Desheng had treated him sincerely. There was no way he was the kind of person the old man described.
“Old man, I’ll deal with Ren Rong. Don’t say anything else,” Che Qianzi said, breathing heavily.
Just as he was about to continue speaking, someone appeared at the ward entrance.
The figure had already been standing there for a while—yet neither Che Qianzi nor Kong Dalong had noticed him.
Only now did he finally push the door open and walk in.
It was Xiao Yifeng, the deputy director who had earlier taken Director Ren away.
Che Qianzi hadn’t reacted much upon seeing him, but Kong Dalong seemed startled. He backed away repeatedly until he reached the window.
After steadying himself, he said to Che Qianzi:
“This man was sent by Ren Rong. He’s here to stop us from meeting.”
“If Director Ren really had that kind of ability, would he still almost get killed by you people?”
Xiao Yifeng said flatly, glancing at Kong Dalong.
“Don’t be afraid. I’m not Yang Xiao—I won’t do anything to you.”
“You can leave now. Pass on a message for me.”
“I don’t care how you mess with Director Ren, but don’t come near Che Qianzi again. I was entrusted to protect him. If you keep this up, you’ll make things difficult for me.”
Seeing that he was about to convince Che Qianzi, Kong Dalong grew unwilling.
He turned to the young Daoist and said urgently:
“I died unjustly… you must avenge me. Don’t listen to him—”
“Enough!”
Xiao Yifeng suddenly shouted.
The ghost trembled violently.
Then Xiao Yifeng turned to Che Qianzi and said:
“This is your closest relative. You should be able to tell whether he’s real or fake, right?”
Che Qianzi fell silent for a moment.
Then he asked:
“Old man… how many dumplings did you wrap on New Year’s Eve last year?”
Kong Dalong froze.
Then replied cautiously:
“Who remembers that? Just the two of us… probably a whole tray.”
Che Qianzi’s expression darkened.
“Last New Year’s Eve, that old bastard went out gambling.”
He exhaled sharply.
“Now tell me—who sent you?”
“Speak, and I’ll let you go—”
“You still want to run?! Who taught you that bad habit?!”
The “Kong Dalong” figure suddenly turned and passed through the window, vanishing into the night.
Che Qianzi lunged forward—but it was too late.
He was still inside a nightmare.
He couldn’t touch a formless spirit.
All he could do was watch it disappear without a trace.
He stomped his foot in frustration and turned back—
Only to discover Xiao Yifeng was also gone.
Anger and confusion surged in him. He was about to rush out of the ward when a voice suddenly rang in his ear:
“Brother, what’s wrong with you? You’re soaked in sweat and talking nonsense… having a nightmare?”
“Li Zi, come look—our Third Brother looks like he got haunted.”
Che Qianzi suddenly opened his eyes.
Sun Desheng was standing beside him, looking at him with concern.
When he saw Che Qianzi wake up, he finally let out a breath of relief.
Che Qianzi was drenched in sweat, as if he had been pulled out of water.
He looked at Sun Desheng and Shen La in a daze, then muttered:
“I was dreaming…? Or did the old man really die and send me a dream…? No… and Xiao Yifeng was there too… what the hell is going on…”
Meanwhile, thirty kilometers away in another hospital—
The “Kong Dalong” from earlier reappeared in a VIP ward.
A middle-aged doctor was waiting.
The ghost looked at him nervously.
“I almost succeeded… but someone interfered… I really did my best…”
The doctor sneered.
“Useless. You still don’t understand?”
“You were able to come back here because that person wanted you to lead the way.”
At that moment, the ward door opened.
Xiao Yifeng, dressed in black, walked in.
