On the rooftop of the Lijia Building in the city center, two men—one with white hair and one with red—walked out onto the open platform.
They were the last two Grand Masters of the Fangshi lineage: Guang Ren and Huoshan.
Standing opposite them was a small old man.
It was none other than Kong Dalong, who had just left the hospital.
After seeing him, the white-haired man stopped. The red-haired man walked forward alone and stood in front of Kong Dalong.
“The Grand Master has arrived as promised. Speak,” he said coldly. “And I warn you—do not play tricks in front of a Grand Master. Speak carefully. Do you understand?”
At this moment, Kong Dalong seemed like a completely different person.
He bowed slightly to the red-haired man.
“Yes. In front of the Grand Master, I will be cautious and speak properly. I would never dare play tricks…”
“How am I supposed to believe that?” Guang Ren, standing farther away, finally spoke.
He gave Kong Dalong a strange look and continued:
“The trap you set even dragged Wu Rendi into it. Is there anything you wouldn’t dare do?”
“Are you truly not afraid of his retaliation, or do you hold something in your hand that even Wu Rendi would not dare touch you for?”
He paused, then looked at Kong Dalong again.
“The fact that you were able to find me and Huoshan means you’ve already prepared a scheme for us as well.”
“Don’t be nervous. Being able to scheme against me is your ability—but you can’t just take without giving. You should offer something in exchange.”
“For example… what is the truth behind Che Qianzi’s ‘seed’? Or what weakness of Wu Rendi are you holding?”
Hearing Guang Ren mention that he had schemed against Wu Rendi, Kong Dalong chuckled.
“So the two Grand Masters have also investigated the tenant of Room 808. Just some minor curiosity.”
“If I ever truly anger Director Wu in the future, I hope the two of you can speak up for me so I don’t die too ugly.”
Seeing him change the subject, Huoshan frowned.
“The Grand Master is asking you a question! Don’t dodge it. Answer properly—either about the seed, or Wu Rendi’s weakness. You must speak clearly.”
“Huoshan, don’t frighten Mr. Kong.”
Before Huoshan could continue, Guang Ren raised a hand to stop him.
After a pause, he said:
“I know the man from the sea has issued a kill order on you. Originally, since it wasn’t directed at me, I didn’t need to concern myself with your life or death.”
“But now you’ve come to me yourself, Mr. Kong. Tell me—what should I do with you?”
“Perfect timing,” Kong Dalong said with a grin.
“I also have an imperial decree with me. Not a kill order, but still…”
He took out a bamboo slip from his backpack and respectfully handed it to Huoshan with both hands.
“Please, Grand Masters, take a look. Return it after reading. I still need to report back later.”
Huoshan frowned and took it. He didn’t dare open it himself and instead handed it to Guang Ren.
The white-haired Grand Master glanced at it briefly.
Then he fell silent.
Huoshan didn’t dare ask.
Across from them, Kong Dalong watched with a faint smile.
About a minute later, Guang Ren let out a long breath.
He handed the bamboo slip back and said:
“You don’t need to read it. Return it to Mr. Kong.”
“If this decree exists, you should have taken it out from the beginning. Why all this sneaking around?”
“Speak. What do you want us master and disciple to do?”
Kong Dalong carefully put the bamboo slip away.
“I’ve been busy with some matters lately. I would like the two Grand Masters to take care of Che Qianzi for me.”
“That child is still young and inexperienced. Even though Sun Desheng is watching over him, he has weaknesses. He cannot compare to the two of you…”
“One month.”
Before Kong Dalong could finish, Guang Ren interrupted and raised a finger.
“I will personally protect Che Qianzi for one month. Whatever you need done, Huoshan can assist you.”
“Thank you for your kindness, Grand Master, but I’ve already made arrangements. There is no need to trouble Huoshan.”
Kong Dalong smiled.
“As for that child, he grew up without his parents and has been spoiled by me. If he offends you in any way, please… consider his father’s face.”
“Enough. I understand.”
Guang Ren did not want to continue the topic.
He turned and walked away, Huoshan following behind.
Before leaving, he added one final sentence:
“The contents of that decree—I do not want a third person to ever see it. Mr. Kong, you understand what I mean.”
“Yes. No third person will see it,” Kong Dalong replied solemnly.
After the two left, Kong Dalong let out a breath and wiped the cold sweat from his forehead.
He took out the bamboo slip again and set it on fire.
Watching it burn to ashes, he murmured with a smile:
“I guarantee no third person will see it. If someone finds out it’s fake, you two will tear me apart before I even return to the sea…”
“My boy… I’ve done everything I can for you. Just behave yourself. Stop causing trouble.”
When the bamboo slip had completely turned to ash, Kong Dalong finally relaxed.
Just as he was about to leave, his brow suddenly tightened.
“Who’s watching this old man for fun? Come out.”
The moment he finished speaking, he suddenly shot forward.
In the blink of an eye, he reached the exit—but he was still a step too late.
The space by the door distorted.
A teleportation formation had been activated, and the observer had already escaped.
“Hm. Still using tricks like this these days. Interesting,” Kong Dalong said with a faint smile, and slowly walked down the stairs.
After he disappeared completely, a man soaked in cold sweat emerged from the doorframe.
It was Vice Director Xiao Yifeng of the Fifth Office.
Within moments, he was drenched in sweat.
He had been the one spying on Kong Dalong. When discovered, he had activated his escape formation—but instead of fleeing, he hid in the guardroom, gambling that Kong Dalong would assume he had escaped.
And he had survived.
He stepped onto the rooftop again under the moonlight, revealing his face.
It was indeed Xiao Yifeng.
He cautiously approached the pile of ashes.
Even though the bamboo slip had been burned, faint carved characters were still visible.
He ignited the ashes again.
A line of text gradually emerged:
“My son is entrusted to you. I hope you will protect his life in full.”
