Shen La continued:

“Great Sage, the tenant of Room 808 in An Da Building is—you.”

“Director Ren’s people found a rental agency and located a lease contract signed in your name. The signature has already been verified by handwriting experts. Three of them confirmed it matches your handwriting…”

Sun Desheng narrowed his eyes and listened quietly. There wasn’t a single extra expression on his face.

Then he calmly asked, “How did the Bureau handle it?”

“They naturally sided with you. Even Director Ren didn’t dare make a determination against you,” Shen La said, taking out a cigarette before remembering he was in a hospital room and putting it away again. “Later, they checked the contract date—it matched the time you were in Guangzhou. You couldn’t have been in two places at once. So it was ruled a setup. The higher-ups have already concluded it won’t affect you.”

Che Qianzi frowned from the side.

“So nothing happened at all? Then what are you worried about, Fatty?”

Sun Desheng chuckled.

“The An Da Building case isn’t over yet.”

“Also—Shen La, news that I was the tenant of Room 808 has already spread, hasn’t it?”

Shen La nodded.

“Besides the Bureau, three different people have already gone to the rental agency pretending to be investigators. They were all exposed as fake. Great Sage, you need to be careful.”

Now Che Qianzi finally understood.

He widened his eyes.

“So someone framed you?”

“If only it were that simple,” Sun Desheng said, inhaling sharply. “That old man is trying to divert the disaster elsewhere. He didn’t get enough killing done at An Da Building—there are still people who didn’t show themselves.”

“Now he’s releasing this information to the outside world, making it look like he worked with me to take down all those people.”

“So if anyone wants revenge, they’ll come for me first—his so-called ‘backer’.”

He suddenly sat up and asked for Shen La’s phone.

Then he continued urgently:

“With my temper, I’m not going to sit here waiting to be killed—Yiyi! Shen La, go after Yiyi!”

Halfway through his sentence, he suddenly froze.

Without hesitation, he threw off the blanket and rushed out of the ward.

But before he could reach the door, a white-haired man appeared at the entrance.

It was none other than Wu Rendi—the same man who had personally sent him to the ICU.

Without waiting for anyone to react, Wu Rendi tossed several bloody fingers onto the floor in front of Sun Desheng.

Then he said in his usual cold tone:

“I said I’d make Yiyi a widow—not you a bachelor. You caused the trouble outside, and now you want your wife to take the blame?”

Seeing him, Sun Desheng finally let out a breath of relief.

In just those few seconds, he was already drenched in cold sweat. He slumped back down onto the floor, panting heavily.

Shen La picked up the fingers from the ground.

“Someone really tried to target Yiyi? Does anyone in this circle still not know her relationship with you?”

“Stupid people who aren’t afraid of death are never in short supply,” Wu Rendi said flatly, scanning the room.

“I sent Tu An to escort Yiyi and the child home. Now give me a list.”

He glanced at Sun Desheng.

“Fatty, your luck is good. Someone’s already cleaning up your mess for you.”

Sun Desheng’s expression twisted awkwardly, as if he had swallowed something hard to digest.

After a long breath, he said:

“Director Wu, we’ve been set up. Step by step—someone’s been leading us by the nose.”

“That’s exactly why Yiyi and her daughter ended up taking the blame,” Wu Rendi replied. “You have two hours. Give me the list. After that, this is no longer your concern.”

“This time the disturbance was kept small. Otherwise, anyone who suffers injustice in the future will come after Yiyi and her child.”

Just then, Shen La’s phone rang.

He answered, listened briefly, then said:

“Great Sage just woke up… Director Hao, you can speak directly.”

After a moment, he turned on speaker and placed the phone in Sun Desheng’s hand.

Hao Wenming’s slightly hoarse voice came through:

“Great Sage, I heard you woke up. I’ve got something to tell you—just five minutes ago, a group of people tried to kidnap Yiyi and Xiao Wu.”

“Director Hao and Tu An arrived just in time and saved them. But I can’t see what they did on the surveillance footage—the attackers just disappeared.”

“I know it was Director Wu’s work, but there were too many witnesses. I can’t explain it on my end.”

“Not that I’m saying anything else, but… just beat them up a little next time. Have Director Wu return the bodies.”

Sun Desheng gave a dry laugh, glancing at the neatly arranged fingers.

“Director Hao, you’re a bit late. Director Wu already finished the job. He’s now asking for the intermediary agency’s list.”

“There aren’t any bodies left—just a few fingers. Want them for identification?”

Hearing that everything had already been handled, Hao Wenming sighed helplessly.

“If you had said so earlier, this would’ve been simpler.”

“Forget it. I’ll find another way to handle it.”

“Great Sage, since you’re awake, come back to the Bureau as soon as possible. The credit for An Da Building has already been given to Director Ren, and the blame is about to land on you. It’ll be officially announced soon—you’d better prepare.”

Just then, someone seemed to approach on his end. After exchanging a few polite words, he hung up.

Sun Desheng let out a bitter laugh and muttered to himself:

“So I’ve been played again… this time it’s a long game. Even my father-in-law got pulled into it.”

“I thought things were already settled…”
