Che Qianzi was convinced that Fatty Sun was taking advantage of him. Ignoring the doctors around him, he kicked Sun Desheng on the backside.

However, considering Shao Yiyi’s presence, he didn’t use full force—just a symbolic kick.

Before he could land another one, Shao Yiyi came back holding her daughter.

Despite his wild, dog-like temper and fearlessness, Che Qianzi inexplicably felt a bit intimidated by her. One glare from Shao Yiyi was enough to rein him in even at his most unruly.

She immediately started scolding him:

“Brother, how can you treat your big brother like this? If you really kicked him to death, are you planning to make me a widow? If you’ve got energy, then kick me instead. Xiao Wu, come here—you’ll follow your Third Uncle from now on…”

“Brother, what do you mean? Why are you lying back down? I haven’t finished yet!”

The doctors were shocked by how quickly Sun Desheng recovered. Wasn’t this the man who had been declared dead and sent to the morgue just days ago? Yet in only a short time, he had recovered almost completely.

On the other hand, Che Qianzi—who looked full of energy—was still extremely weak after examination. He was only eighteen or nineteen, yet his body seemed like that of a man in his sixties or seventies.

After that brief burst of strength from kicking Sun Desheng, he returned to bed, drenched in cold sweat.

But even like this, he couldn’t stop causing trouble.

Anything he disliked, he would insult directly, venting all his frustration toward Shao Yiyi onto others.

“Nurse, how many IV bags is this already? Does your hospital survive on me alone? Are you using expired drip bags on me? Is this glucose or formalin? What, you think I’ve never seen formalin?”

“Doctor, did you graduate from veterinary school? Are you more used to treating animals than people? If you keep checking me like livestock, I’ll die in your hands! Why are you easing up now? Should I find a doctor to check you instead—you look weaker than me. What exactly did you prescribe me? I was fine before taking your medicine, now my heart feels weird… Hey! You stepped on my oxygen tube! On purpose, right? Don’t leave—I’m going to get revenge!”

“Brother, is it really that uncomfortable when you can’t move?”

Sun Desheng, lying in bed, smiled at him.

“Didn’t notice before—you’ve got quite the sharp tongue. Can’t let you stay idle.”

“Yiyi, there’s a plate of sliced apples on the cabinet. Bring it over so our brother can sharpen his teeth.”

Only then did Shao Yiyi notice the apples on the bedside cabinet. She glanced over and, not noticing Sun Desheng’s subtle signals, said:

“Right, where’s his master? He’s been taking care of him for days. Now that he’s awake, why isn’t the old man here? That little elder is quite interesting—he’s been praising you nonstop… Fatty, why are you blinking?”

Hearing Kong Dalong mentioned, Che Qianzi immediately sat up again.

“Our old man really came?” he said, then looked at Sun Desheng. “Fatty, just tell the truth—how much money did he borrow from you? Back in my hometown he’s already in debt by millions. With your wealth, it must be at least hundreds of thousands, right?”

“Money is just worldly stuff,” Sun Desheng said with a grin. “I’ve never cared about it.”

“But your master really did entrust you to me—not as collateral, but asking me to take care of you.”

“He said he met a rich widow outside, accidentally got her pregnant, and plans to marry her after New Year. You might even get a little junior apprentice soon.”

“Fatty, don’t talk nonsense!” Shao Yiyi interrupted. “He’s already in his seventies, how could he still have a child?”

She placed the fruit plate beside Che Qianzi and added:

“I’ve met your master. He’s a kind-looking old man. Nothing like what you’re saying.”

“He’s capable of anything,” both brothers said in unison.

Then they both sighed helplessly.

Che Qianzi lay back down, wiping the sweat from his forehead.

“If that old man could really settle down with a woman, that would be good,” he said. “But he’s never been reliable. Even though I’m his disciple, I’ve basically been doing a son’s job.”

“I earn money and take care of him, and still have to worry about him causing trouble.”

“One day he loses money gambling at Old Zhang’s place, the next he’s sneaking into Widow Li’s house and gets caught by her husband. I still have to go bail him out…”

“Everyone says I’ve got a crazy temper—but anyone raised like this would be the same.”

“When I was a kid, I used temple money to bail him out. Those bastards saw I was young, so they bullied me. Even after taking the money, they slapped me twice.”

“Later I grew a bit older. One time I snapped—I grabbed a kitchen knife and almost fought them to the death. I didn’t even care if I died. I just wanted to take one with me.”

“But a teenage kid like me ended up chasing seven or eight grown men all over the village.”

“After that I understood something—kindness gets you bullied.”

“So I became more and more ruthless. If the old man went gambling, I’d flip the table and chase everyone away with a shovel. If he messed around at some woman’s house, I’d burn the place down.”

“From then on, everyone in the village was afraid of me.”

Shao Yiyi, soft-hearted, couldn’t bear to listen. Her eyes reddened as she listened.

She pulled Sun Desheng along and said:

“Fatty… your brother’s life is too miserable. You need to persuade that old man—don’t torment the child anymore…”

“Don’t worry, your brother is my brother, and your sister-in-law is your sister-in-law. With us here, no one will bully you.”

At that moment, the ward door opened again.

Shen La, with white hair, walked in carrying a large bundle of items that blocked his view. He hadn’t seen that Sun Desheng had already woken up.

“Yiyi, I’ll stay here. You take the child home. The doctor said Great Sage needs at least another month of unconscious rest…”

Halfway through his sentence, he finally saw Sun Desheng smiling at him.

“Great Sage! I knew you were fine—good people don’t die young. Someone like you should live to two hundred!”

He dropped everything in his hands and rushed forward.

Shao Yiyi, already used to their friendship, let Shen La and Sun Desheng joke and laugh.

After they finished, she said:

“Alright, Shen La, you’re here now. I’ll leave our fat guy—and our brother—to you. I’m taking Xiao Wu home. The kid’s been causing trouble nonstop. Call me if anything happens.”

She left with her daughter, leaving the three men laughing in the ICU like it was a tea house instead of a hospital.

Once she was gone, Sun Desheng finally asked:

“Shen La, how did things end at An Da Building?”

Shen La glanced at Che Qianzi before replying:

“A total of 198 people died. No relatives recorded. They’ve been sent to various crematorium morgues and will be cremated after the holding period.”

“We captured 36 people. They’re currently detained in the rebuilt North Suburban Prison. While you were in the U.S., Ouyang Pianzuo upgraded the facility and designed cells specifically for cultivators.”

He paused slightly, then looked at Sun Desheng.

“There’s also one more problem… and it involves you.”
