As they were speaking, the ward door was already pushed open.

A furious-looking Shao Yiyi walked in, holding a woman in her arms.

Just before she entered, Sun Desheng had already closed his eyes again, pretending to still be unconscious.

Following behind her was the new Bureau Director, Ren Rong. He was injured and limping slightly as he hurried in after her, saying as he walked:

“I know you’re unhappy, but this really wasn’t my decision. Sister-in-law…”

“Don’t call me sister-in-law like we’re close!” Shao Yiyi snapped, turning back to glare at him. “Go tell your department leadership—don’t expect our fat guy to take the blame for you. What do you mean ‘preemptively transferring the Bureau’s operational core’? He’s lucky to still be alive after coming back from the morgue, and you’re still running around here?”

She continued sharply, “Fine, I’ll tell you what it means to transfer operational core forces. I’ll call Uncle Wu right now and see who he listens to. If Uncle Wu leaves the Bureau, do you think Yang Xiao, Yang Jun, and Tu An will stay?”

After Sun Desheng’s accident, Shen La hadn’t dared to tell Shao Yiyi that Wu Rendi was involved. He only said he was injured during the operation.

But after hearing that, Shao Yiyi only became more furious.

Sun Desheng had already resigned from the Bureau—why was he still being sent to risk his life? No question about it: he must have been forced by the new director.

And when Shen La brought her to see him, she learned that her husband had already been sent to the morgue. She fainted on the spot. It was Shen La who refused to accept Sun Desheng was gone and rushed into the morgue to drag him back out.

Now Shao Yiyi had a stomach full of anger toward the new director. She originally planned to go home and bring her daughter to see her father, but Ren Rong kept clinging to her, repeatedly explaining that Sun Desheng’s situation had nothing to do with him.

Seeing people entering the room, Kong Dalong quickly stepped back beside Che Qianzi.

Then he said to Shao Yiyi:

“Sister-in-law, I just saw your husband’s finger move earlier. I’m not exaggerating—he’s a good man… just now he was half-conscious, calling your name, telling you to find someone surnamed Shen and raise the child together… I’m over seventy, and even I couldn’t hold back my tears…”

As he spoke, he pretended to wipe his eyes.

He gave Sun Desheng a thumbs-up and kept praising him:

“A truly good man! In ancient times he’d be Yue Fei, Han Xin, or Gao Xianzhi… Our boy being able to call him big brother in this life is a blessing from several lifetimes!”

Hearing this, Shao Yiyi’s eyes filled with tears.

She sat beside Sun Desheng, placed their daughter on the bed, and held his hand gently.

“You’re so silly… is there anyone who can replace you in this world? We still have Uncle Wu… you can’t die. If you’re gone, what am I supposed to do?”

At that moment, Sun Desheng’s lips twitched slightly, as if he wanted to speak.

Shao Yiyi quickly leaned in and pressed her ear to his mouth.

Then she repeated what she heard:

“Black… pot… I took… don’t make things hard for my woman—”

Her expression changed instantly.

“Director Ren! Listen to this! Look what you’ve done to my husband!”

She burst into tears.

“You wait… I’m calling Uncle Wu!”

Director Ren was on the verge of breaking down. He rushed forward, grabbing Sun Desheng’s hand.

“What black pot?! Let’s clarify this properly!”

Seeing her husband still being “bullied” even while unconscious, Shao Yiyi snapped. She grabbed and shoved Director Ren straight out of the ward.

Outside, Sun Desheng secretly glanced over and spat in satisfaction at his back.

At that moment, their daughter giggled and copied him, spitting toward the door as well.

Shao Yiyi returned to the room, saw this, and frowned.

She was about to scold the child when—

Sun Desheng slowly opened his eyes.

He looked confusedly at her.

“Yiyi… where am I? Weren’t we supposed to get married tomorrow? Why am I in a hospital?”

Then he looked at the little girl.

“Who is this child? Why is she calling me dad?”

Shao Yiyi froze for a moment, then forced a smile.

“Wait for me, don’t move. Xiao Wu, take care of your dad.”

She rushed out of the room shouting:

“Doctor! Doctor! The fat man in ICU is awake! Come quickly—something’s wrong with him!”

While she was calling the doctors, Sun Desheng turned to his daughter and quietly said:

“Don’t tell your mom. Dad is just playing a game with her.”

Kong Dalong sighed helplessly from the side.

“You’re really planning to get revenge on Wu Rendi like this? Be careful he sends you back to the morgue.”

Just as he was speaking, Che Qianzi slowly opened his eyes.

Seeing Kong Dalong, he immediately closed them again and muttered:

“This dream won’t end… still nightmares… old man, if something really happened to you, at least come visit me in a dream…”

Kong Dalong smiled faintly at him, made a “shh” gesture toward Sun Desheng, then quietly left the ward.

Not long after he left, Shao Yiyi returned with several doctors, who immediately began examining Sun Desheng.

The noise woke Che Qianzi again.

This time he finally realized—it wasn’t a dream.

He had really seen his master earlier.

He suddenly jumped out of bed, pushed aside a doctor examining Sun Desheng, and asked urgently:

“Was that just now… really our old man?”

“Che Qianzi! Your big brother is like this and you’re still causing trouble?” Shao Yiyi scolded him, pulling him aside.

Then she turned back to Sun Desheng anxiously.

“Don’t be scared, fat guy… I’m here… it’s okay if you don’t remember, we can take it slow… I’ll tell you everything that happened over the years…”

“This is our daughter Shao Wu. We had her when I went to America with you. Xiao Wu, call him daddy… what do you mean ‘Shen La’? Be good, Shen La is not your father, he is… you peed your pants?! Che Qianzi, watch your brother—I’ll go clean up your niece…”

While she took the daughter to the bathroom, Che Qianzi returned once again to Sun Desheng’s bedside.

He was still a little confused and couldn’t tell whether what he saw earlier was real or not.

He wanted to ask again, but seeing the doctors busy around him, he hesitated.

Just as he was struggling—

Sun Desheng suddenly spoke.

“Yes… the old man came.”

“He asked me to pass on a message. Let me repeat it for you…”

“‘My boy… you must listen to Sun Desheng. When I’m not around, treat him like you would treat me.’”
