The moment Gu Yihan pushed open the office door, the laughter in the room abruptly stopped. She walked straight to her desk and sat down.
Sister Zhuang looked at Gu Yihan with a mocking expression and said, “Deputy Director Shen’s son has a girlfriend now.”
Sister Li looked at Gu Yihan with concern, unaware that Gu Yihan’s hand was tightly gripping her pen, her fingertips turning white.
At that moment, Gu Yihan was thinking: could it be that her low profile all these years made others think she was easy to bully—that anyone could just trample over her?
Back in Gujia Village, she rarely went out except to go to school and was always cautious, worried about standing out in this era. Now, Gu Yihan realized she had been mistaken.
Zhou Tingmei looked at Sister Zhuang with a coquettish smile and said, “Sister Zhuang, how could you say that? Doesn’t that hurt Xiaohan’s feelings?”
Zhou Tingmei felt a surge of satisfaction. Why is it that just because she came from a rural background, she’s left to marry an old man, while Gu Yihan can stay pure and untouchable?
Gu Yihan slowly stood and walked over to Sister Zhuang, her eyes cold as ice.
Gu Yihan was 166 cm tall, while Sister Zhuang was 158 cm.
Using her height advantage and the aura of cold indifference surrounding her, Gu Yihan completely suppressed Sister Zhuang.
Sister Zhuang, being dominated by a young girl, could no longer control her temper. She sneered at Gu Yihan, “People should be down-to-earth, don’t—don’t chase unrealistic dreams—”
Before she could finish, Gu Yihan used her height advantage to pin Sister Zhuang from behind, pressing the tip of her pen tightly against the back of her neck.
Sister Zhuang’s pupils widened, and her voice trembled: “Ah… it hurts… Xiaohan… let me go.”
Seeing the expression on Sister Zhuang’s face, Gu Yihan suddenly smiled. She had been overthinking—she should be ruthless, make everyone fear her. If she could act, there was no need to talk.
Zhou Tingmei, seeing this side of Gu Yihan, panicked. “I… I was just speaking up for you.” She quickly lowered her head and pretended to work.
Gu Yihan increased the pressure of her hold. Sister Zhuang winced in pain, “Ah… Xiaohan, I was wrong, I won’t say anything false again.”
Sister Li, worried about danger, urged, “Xiaohan, Sister Zhuang knows she was wrong. Please let go; someone could get hurt.”
Gu Yihan’s gaze swept over everyone in the office. “Do you think that just because I usually seem easygoing, I’ll let you hurt me?”
“Or do you think you hold some weight in my heart?”
“Do you think that just saying a few harmless words will change my mind or decisions?”
The office fell into a brief, stunned silence.
Gu Yihan turned her gaze back to Sister Zhuang and whispered near her ear, “Look at that cowardly look. Do you really think that without Deputy Director Shen backing me, I’m easy to bully?”
Then she abruptly withdrew her pen, grabbed the back of Sister Zhuang’s neck with both hands, and smashed her against the desk repeatedly.
“Help… let me go… I…” Sister Zhuang, dizzy from the blows, could only speak in broken sentences.
Seeing Sister Zhuang’s head bleeding, Sisters Li and Zhang tried to intervene, but their hands hadn’t even reached her.
Gu Yihan was faster—she grabbed Sister Zhuang by the hair and threw her to the ground.
Gu Yihan slowly walked over to Sister Zhuang and, looking down at her sprawled on the floor, bent over to pat her face. “Even if I’m alone, you’re not someone who can bully me.”
After saying this, Gu Yihan returned to her desk. She needed to think carefully about how to take Sister Zhuang down. She didn’t believe that after this, Sister Zhuang wouldn’t hold a grudge.
Sisters Li and Zhang only dared to approach after Gu Yihan sat back down. Sister Li whispered, “Sister Zhuang, let us help you up.”
They carefully lifted Sister Zhuang, looking at her bleeding neck and the swollen, bloody forehead. Both took a deep breath, filled with fear of Gu Yihan.
Sister Zhang gently asked, “Do you want us to take you to the clinic?”
Sister Zhuang, pale-faced, said, “No need, just help me sit for a while.”
Sisters Zhang and Sister Li carefully helped her back to her workstation.
Zhou Tingmei, glancing at Sister Zhuang’s face, sat stiffly in her seat, unmoving, her trembling legs betraying her emotions.
From that day on, Gu Yihan’s routine became simple and strict: the factory and home—she went nowhere else, ignoring the glances of male colleagues.
Anyone who tried to strike up a conversation was intercepted by Maomao, who chased off anyone who came near.
As a result, most of the male workers temporarily gave up their attempts.
Accounting Office
Gu Yihan was isolated by everyone except Liu Yang. These days, she was constantly thinking about how to take Sister Zhuang down.
She didn’t believe that Sister Zhuang, who controlled the factory’s steel purchase costs, had never falsified any accounts.
Even a small supply and marketing cooperative would internally handle defective goods—let alone a machinery factory with thousands of workers.
“You all go first. I have some work to finish, and I’ll lock the door when I leave,” Sister Zhuang told them.
The office staff replied in unison, “Don’t work too late, Sister Zhuang.”
Gu Yihan watched Sister Zhuang thoughtfully but said nothing. After work, she left with everyone else but secretly hid under the stairs on the first floor.
She waited there for nearly an hour. Just as she was about to give up, she heard footsteps and pressed herself against the dark corner of the stairs.
Sister Zhuang appeared at the first-floor doorway, waiting a moment, then spoke to someone outside, “You’re the one looking for me. Why did it take you so long?”
Gu Yihan then heard Deputy Director Shen’s voice: “Give me the account book. I’ll take it and destroy it.”
Sister Zhuang hissed softly, “No way. If you destroy the account book, there will be no evidence. Are you planning to make me take the fall?”
“Don’t forget, I don’t have the power to sell that much steel behind your back.”
Deputy Director Shen’s voice carried a cold, sinister edge: “Don’t forget, we’re in the same boat. If I don’t succeed, neither will you.”
“I’ll give you one night to think about it. If you don’t hand me the account book tomorrow, I’ll spread the news that your son is illegitimate.”
Sister Zhuang trembled. “You can’t threaten me with this forever.”
As dusk fell, the voices were faint, barely reaching Gu Yihan. But she saw Deputy Director Shen approach Sister Zhuang. She didn’t hear what was whispered, but saw Sister Zhuang’s expression change instantly.
Deputy Director Shen patted the stunned Sister Zhuang on the shoulder and walked past her.
Once he left, Sister Zhuang’s face twisted into a sneer as she pulled a notebook from her chest.
Gu Yihan’s eyes lit up. She watched Sister Zhuang put the notebook back into her bag and walk off.
Gu Yihan was desperate. If she could get that notebook, it would be perfect. Muttering, “Why can’t her space allow remote object retrieval?”
Just as Sister Zhuang disappeared from view, Gu Yihan froze—her eyes wide in disbelief as the notebook appeared in her own spatial pocket. She stared at the account book in her hands.
Trembling, she opened it and saw the numbers inside, realizing this was indeed the same ledger Sister Zhuang had carried in her bag.
