Master Chu shot Old Tang a sharp glance and stormed out in anger.

Leng Xiao immediately followed him.

Old Tang, seeing Master Chu and Leng Xiao walk away, immediately showed a pained expression on his face, waving his hands wildly.

“Ah! Ouch! Who the hell put a compass on my desk?”

At that moment, Old Tang’s assistant, Xiao Yang, walked in. Seeing Old Tang flailing his hands, he asked in confusion, “Master, what’s wrong?”

Old Tang paused his hand-waving, then placed his hands behind his back, turned around, and stroked his beard.

With a stern face, he asked, “Have Old Chen’s health data come in yet?”

Xiao Yang shook his head with a smile. “Not that fast.”

Then he walked past Old Tang to the desk and picked up the iron compass.

Grinning, he said, “The compass accidentally fell onto the desk.”

Hearing this, Old Tang’s face stiffened. He glared at Xiao Yang and roared, “Aren’t you going to scram?”

Xiao Yang was stunned for a moment, unsure which of his words had angered his master.

Shaking his head, he quickly put the compass in his pocket, thoughtfully closed the door, and hurried away.

Meanwhile, Old Tang hurried to his seat and looked at the hole in his palm caused by the compass.

He felt extremely regretful.

From now on, he would never slam his hand on the table to show off again—it hurt like hell.

Elsewhere, Master Chu stormed out, ready to head downstairs.

Suddenly, he noticed a crowd of researchers surrounding someone as he passed by.

He rubbed his eyes in disbelief and patted Leng Xiao’s side. “Kid, check—is that Old Chen?”

Leng Xiao glanced toward Master Chu while chuckling lightly. “Master, Old Chen is still lying in bed…”

His voice abruptly stopped as he noticed the figure being surrounded by the crowd, along with Li Weiguo, the soldier assigned to protect Old Chen 24/7.

Unable to wait for Leng Xiao’s reply, Master Chu dashed forward and grabbed Li Weiguo at the door.

“Comrade Li, was that Old Chen who just went inside?”

Li Weiguo, thinking Master Chu was worried about Old Chen’s health, smiled and nodded. “Master Chu, don’t worry. Old Chen is fine.”

Master Chu was stunned. He looked at Li Weiguo with wide eyes. “In less than an hour and a half, Old Chen can walk around?”

Li Weiguo, still excited, recounted all the reactions and signs after Old Chen took the medicine.

Leng Xiao exchanged a glance with Master Chang, a trace of shock flickering in his eyes.

He quickly pulled Master Chu aside, feeling uneasy.

After thinking for a moment, he whispered, “Master, why does this effect seem so similar to the medicine the little hamster produced last time? Could it be… the little hamster gave a dose to Old Tang as well?”

Master Chu squinted and shook his head immediately.

“Impossible. That little beast was so stingy. Among all the researchers in Kuncheng, after over a year, it only gave four drops.”

Leng Xiao considered this and agreed—it wasn’t possible.

The little hamster had been asleep for nearly half a year and never woke up, so it couldn’t have come to the capital.

He exhaled in relief. Hopefully, it wasn’t what he feared.

After all, their Kuncheng Research Institute had long been leading in traditional Chinese medicine research, and the little hamster had been a key contributor.

Family Courtyard Service Station

After work, Gu Yihan packed up her things, finished handing over money and receipts, and had just stepped out with Liu Yufang.

She saw Lu Huailin holding Haohao’s hand at the service station entrance, smiling warmly at her.

Liu Yufang, perceptive as always, quickly greeted Gu Yihan and left.

“Mom!”

Haohao ran to Gu Yihan, holding her left hand, and turned to Lu Huailin. “Dad, hold my other hand.”

Lu Huailin glanced at Haohao, then walked to his wife and held her right hand.

Smiling, he said, “Wife, let’s go home.”

Gu Yihan noticed the military wives glancing their way as they walked, instinctively trying to pull her hand back.

She tried several times, but seeing Lu Huailin refuse to let go, she glared at him.

Annoyed, she said, “Let go! It’s not good if others see this.”

Lu Huailin wasn’t about to let his wife shrink back, gripping her hand tightly.

Catching the occasional glances from passersby, he snorted coldly, “I’m holding my wife’s hand, not someone else’s. What’s there to worry about?”

Gu Yihan felt a pang in her heart. She looked up and down at him, eyes filled with confusion.

What’s gotten into this man?

Has he lost his mind?

Lu Huailin didn’t mind her scrutiny. He had already decided—today’s strategy was shamelessness.

Stick close during the day, cling at night, and he wouldn’t believe he couldn’t get into her heart.

The three of them walked home together.

Lu Huailin suddenly remembered the phone call from earlier that afternoon. He glanced at his wife’s pretty features and couldn’t help whispering,

“Wife… do you regret marrying me?”

Gu Yihan looked up at him like he was crazy and gave a sidelong glance. “Regret? Can I undo it or what?!”

Hearing this, Lu Huailin tightened his grip on her hand, staring at her, gritting his teeth.

“If you want to change your mind, forget it!”

He pressed his lips together in silence for the rest of the walk.

Gu Yihan glanced at him, thinking: has he gone through early menopause or what?

He asked, she answered, and he’s still mad.

She shook her head, deciding not to think about it.

Seeing that Gu Yihan didn’t even look at him, Lu Huailin felt a rush of mixed emotions.

Haohao chattered on excitedly about fun times with friends at school.

Gu Yihan patiently listened, occasionally responding.

The big rooster followed behind Haohao, rolling its eyes at Gu Yihan now and then.

It clearly held a grudge—if not for this little kid, that wicked woman would have stewed it.

Haohao suddenly turned around, shouting at the rooster, “Big Flower, are you scolding me in your heart again?”

“Cluck, cluck, cluck, cluck.”

“You don’t need to deny it. I heard you. You did scold me.”

Gu Yihan, surprised, watched Haohao confront the rooster, then frowned, suddenly realizing something.

“Haohao, you can understand what it’s saying?”

Just as Haohao was about to answer, the rooster leapt into his arms, clucking.

Haohao paused, then shook his head. “I don’t understand.”

Lu Huailin suddenly laughed, stroking his wife’s hand.

“Wife, don’t believe everything a child says.”

Gu Yihan looked at him suspiciously and tested his forehead.

Lu Huailin gently took her hand away, brought it to his lips, and kissed it.

Smiling, he said, “Wife, I’m not sick.”

Seeing this, Gu Yihan shivered, becoming even more convinced that Lu Huailin really was sick.
