B5SB -Chapter 357 Every Family Has Its Troubles

Born in the ’50s, Switched at Birth6 min read357 of 394

Eldest Sister Lu plopped down onto Mother Lu’s bed, staring blankly at the retreating figure of Lu Huailin.

Tears poured down like beads that had snapped from a string.

Eldest Sister Lu felt that no one could understand her, no one could truly grasp how exhausting it was to care for a patient who spent all day in bed, unable to eat, drink, or use the bathroom on their own.

She didn’t want to bother Gu Yihan, but she was just too tired.

Her gaze wandered, unfocused, toward Mother Lu lying in bed.

She had to turn Mother Lu over and pat her back every two hours.

Cooking for her meant mashing everything into a paste, and every day she had to massage her to promote blood circulation.

And that wasn’t all—she also had to endure Mother Lu’s daily unconscious physiological issues.

“Pfft pfft pfft…”

“Ah… she’s done it in her pants again.”

Fang Yi exclaimed, covering her nose in shock.

Seeing this, Lu’s eldest brother quickly turned and left, calling over his shoulder as he went, “Eldest Sister, men and women are different. I’ll leave Mom in your care.”

And with that, he disappeared in a flash at the doorway.

Fang Yi cast a look of disgust at Mother Lu, didn’t even bother saying goodbye, and tiptoed away quietly, afraid Eldest Sister Lu would stop her.

The smell of urine mixed with feces filled the entire room, and Eldest Sister Lu could no longer hold back, wailing loudly.

Mother Lu didn’t even realize she had soiled herself—she only knew Lu Huailin had left without giving her money.

She screamed “Ah…” recklessly, trying to draw attention in any way she could.

Meanwhile, on the other side:

Li Yajing saw that Gu Yihan and Lu Huailin had returned so quickly and a flash of surprise crossed her eyes.

After a moment’s thought, she asked, “Xiaohan, why did you come back so soon? Didn’t you stay for lunch?”

Gu Yihan glanced at Li Yajing after getting in the car and sighed, “No need to explain… every family has its troubles.”

Li Yajing smiled at that and changed the subject, saying, “Xiaohan, I just called my cousin. He said he’ll come to Jing City the day after tomorrow to pick me up.”

Gu Yihan looked at Li Yajing in surprise. “You want a divorce?”

Li Yajing was silent for a moment, then softly said, “Yes. The sooner the divorce, the sooner the freedom. I want to go find my parents.”

Gu Yihan was momentarily stunned. “You mean… you want to go back to the countryside?”

Li Yajing: “Yes.”

Only after divorcing would she have the right to return to the countryside; she wanted to be with her parents.

A family should share blessings and hardships together.

Gu Yihan hesitated, then said, “Have you thought about earning money to support them while working outside? That’s better than suffering with them directly.”

Li Yajing looked up, serious, meeting Gu Yihan’s gaze.

“Xiaohan, I’m not afraid of hardship. As long as the family is together, I don’t mind being tired or struggling myself.”

Gu Yihan: “…”

Fine. She wouldn’t try to dissuade her. After all, Li Yajing grew up in the city and hadn’t endured the brutal reality of farm life—her innocence was almost “adorable.”

At the Lu family’s gate:

Lu Huailin parked the car, turned to Gu Yihan, and softly said, “Wife, you stay in the car. I’ll go pick up Haohao.”

Gu Yihan smiled at him and nodded.

Inside the courtyard:

Haohao heard the jeep and shouted toward the living room, “Grandpa, Dad’s here to pick me up!”

Father Lu came out and, seeing Lu Huailin entering through the door, asked curiously, “Back so soon?”

“Dad, I missed you.”

Lu Huailin looked at the bouncing, excited Haohao with a smile and teased, “Your sweetest feature is your mouth.”

Haohao grinned and laughed gleefully.

“Dad, do you want to come with us to the family courtyard for a few days?”

Father Lu glanced at Lu Huailin and waved his hand, “No need. You spend more time bringing Haohao back here—that’s better than anything.”

Lu Huailin nodded with a smile. “Alright. When Haohao’s on summer break, I’ll bring him so you can see enough of him.”

Father Lu nodded in satisfaction. He noticed Gu Yihan hadn’t come inside and frowned.

“Did Mom upset you?”

The smile on Lu Huailin’s face faded as he recounted everything that had happened to Father Lu.

Father Lu took a deep breath. “Your sister is one of those people blind to the obvious and stubborn in the heart. No matter what you say, it won’t help. Once she decides someone’s good, she sticks to it relentlessly.”

Lu Huailin couldn’t help but twitch his mouth and nodded in agreement.

He said, “Being around that ungrateful family every day, sooner or later she’ll suffer for it.”

Father Lu glanced at Lu Huailin and urged, “Alright, go back now.”

Lu Huailin smiled, nodded, and left the Lu family holding Haohao’s hand.

Haohao waved back at Father Lu as they walked, his childlike voice calling, “Grandpa, I’ll come visit you during summer break!”

Father Lu stood at the doorway, reluctant to part with him. He only turned back home after they were out of sight.

At the family courtyard:

Gu Yihan sat down on the sofa with a sigh and directed Lu Huailin to pour her some water.

She said with a frown, “Why does Sister Yajing insist on staying at the guesthouse?”

Lu Huailin poured a glass of milk for Haohao and honey water for his wife.

Smiling, he said, “It’s actually good she’s staying at the guesthouse.”

He didn’t want Li Yajing living at their home, but since his wife insisted, he reluctantly agreed.

Now that Li Yajing herself didn’t want to stay at home, he was secretly pleased—it showed she was clever.

Haohao, holding his milk, carefully stretched his neck, seeing that Gu Yihan and Lu Huailin hadn’t noticed him.

He ran over to the big rooster’s pen, poured the milk into its trough, and whispered, “Da Hua, drink quickly.”

“Cluck cluck cluck.”

The rooster rubbed its head against Haohao’s palm enthusiastically, showing thanks, then eagerly drank every drop of milk in the trough.

“By the way, wife, the letter you sent to Grandma Gu was returned.”

“What?”

“Returned?”

Lu Huailin pulled the letter from his pocket, handed it to his wife, and explained, “The recipient couldn’t be reached.”

A look of disbelief crossed Gu Yihan’s eyes. She took the letter and saw the envelope was intact.

Softly, she said, “How could they not reach her? Could something have happened to Grandma?”

Seeing the worry on his wife’s face, Lu Huailin stepped forward and pulled her close.

“Wife, Grandma probably went back to Gujia Village.”

Gu Yihan looked up at Lu Huailin, then lowered her gaze, deep in thought.

Knowing Grandma Gu, there was no way she would return to Gujia Village on her own—unless she was forced.

After a moment, she looked up, tilted her head, and looped her arm through Lu Huailin’s.

Smiling brightly, she said, “Darling, can you help me find out where Grandma went?”

Lu Huailin heard this, reached up, and playfully swiped her nose.

Jokingly, he said, “Wife, your man guarantees to complete the mission you’ve assigned.”
