B5SB -Chapter 329 Making Trouble for No Reason

Born in the ’50s, Switched at Birth6 min read329 of 394

After seeing Auntie Zhang off, Gu Yihan returned home and plopped down on the sofa. Influenced by the other woman’s emotions, she felt stifled and uncomfortable inside.

When Lu Huailin came back from visiting neighbors with Haohao, he saw Gu Yihan spacing out. Curious, he walked over and waved his hand in front of her eyes.

Gu Yihan lifted her gaze and looked at him in confusion, replying weakly, “You’re back.”

Hearing this, Lu Huailin frowned. He sat down beside her and asked worriedly, “Wife, are you tired?”

Seeing that Gu Yihan looked listless, Haohao hurriedly climbed onto her lap.

He reached out and touched her cheek. His little face looked exactly like Lu Huailin’s, and his eyes were full of concern. “Mommy…”

Looking at the identical worried frowns on the father and son’s faces, Gu Yihan felt a little warmth in her heart.

She raised her hand and patted Haohao’s soft hair, smiling. “Don’t worry. Mommy is fine.”

Then she turned to Lu Huailin and said with a small smile, “Let’s stew quail meatballs for lunch.”

“Quail?” Lu Huailin looked at her in confusion. He didn’t remember buying any quail.

Gu Yihan stood up with a smile and explained as she walked, “Aunt Zhang next door gave them to us. She said Commissar Zhao exchanged for them at the brigade.”

Hearing this, Lu Huailin narrowed his eyes slightly and told Haohao to go play with his toy car.

Then he followed Gu Yihan into the kitchen to help cut cabbage. Glancing at her as she heated the oil, he asked softly, “Wife, did Commissar Zhao’s wife say something that affected your mood?”

Gu Yihan paused with the spatula in her hand. She sighed and recounted their conversation.

When it came to Zhao Xu, she criticized him angrily. “He doesn’t respect people—such a male chauvinist. He could’ve just buried those handwritten notebooks somewhere, but he burned them instead. He didn’t leave Auntie anything to remember. I seriously suspect he did it on purpose.”

Seeing his wife’s chest heaving with anger, Lu Huailin frowned. He didn’t care about other people’s family affairs.

He only cared about his own wife.

Seeing how upset she was, he stepped in and took over the cooking.

He comforted her gently, “Wife, other people’s business has nothing to do with us. There’s no need to get angry. If you ruin your health, won’t Haohao and I be the ones feeling distressed?”

Gu Yihan looked up at his firm profile and nodded. “Mm.”

She took out the soaked vermicelli and cut it into three sections.

While stir-frying the cabbage, Lu Huailin said, “Wife, go rest for a bit. I’ll call you when it’s ready.”

“Alright.”

Gu Yihan turned and went to the living room.

She had just sat down when Mother Lu limped in angrily.

Hearing footsteps, Gu Yihan looked up. When she saw her mother-in-law at the door, she froze, then said in surprise, “Mom, why are you here?”

She quickly stood up and walked over with a smile.

“Slap!”

Mother Lu’s face was cold. She tightened her lips, raised her arm, and slapped Gu Yihan hard.

“Little slut! I knew you had bad intentions!”

Gu Yihan was stunned by the sudden slap and couldn’t react for a moment.

When Haohao saw his mother being hit, he rushed at Mother Lu like a little cannonball and started punching and kicking her legs.

“Bad person! Bad person!”

Mother Lu glanced at him sideways and sneered. “No wonder you make your son come to my house once a month. You two really know how to scheme. In less than half a year, you coaxed Old Lu into buying you a freezer worth over 3,000 yuan. You’re really capable!”

Hearing this, Haohao stopped hitting her. His little face turned pale, and guilt flooded his heart.

He felt that he had hurt his mother.

If he hadn’t accepted Grandpa’s freezer, Mommy wouldn’t have been beaten.

Tears filled his eyes as he protested softly, “Grandpa gave it to me willingly. I didn’t ask for it, and neither did Mommy.”

Mother Lu ignored him. She was convinced Gu Yihan had done it on purpose.

Maybe she had even used some dirty, shameless tricks behind the scenes to cheat Old Lu out of money.

The more she thought about it, the more resentful she became. She sneered, “Shameless! Even seducing your own father-in-law! You’re full of slutty stench…”

“Slap!”

Gu Yihan raised her hand and slapped Mother Lu hard, cutting off her filthy words.

Mother Lu’s head buzzed. She stared at her hatefully and shouted crazily, “You dare hit me?!”

Gu Yihan shot her a cold look, pulled the crying Haohao behind her, and slapped her again.

“You’re the one asking for it!”

In her whole life, this was the first time she had been slapped.

If it weren’t for Lu Huailin’s sake, she would have chopped Mother Lu with a knife.

Hearing this, Mother Lu completely broke down.

Her face twisted as she screamed, “You little slut—”

“Slap!”

Another crisp sound rang out.

Her head jerked to the side, and five red fingerprints instantly appeared on her face, showing how much force Gu Yihan had used.

In the kitchen, Lu Huailin heard the shouting and hurried out.

He saw his wife hitting someone and his mother, limping and crazed, lunging toward her.

He rushed forward, grabbed Mother Lu’s wrist, and pulled her back.

When he looked up, he saw the slap mark on Gu Yihan’s cheek.

His face instantly darkened.

He turned to his mother and said coldly, “Mom, it’s New Year. Instead of staying peacefully at home, why did you come here to stir up trouble?”

Mother Lu stared at him in disbelief and pointed at her own face.

“Are you blind?! Can’t you see your wife hitting me?!”

Then she pointed at Gu Yihan. “Look! This is the good wife you carefully chose! She’s vicious and beats her mother-in-law! Only you treasure her like gold. You don’t even know she doesn’t care about you at all! If she cared about you, how would she dare hit your own mother?!”

She fixed her eyes on Gu Yihan and accused her relentlessly.

She hated this woman to the bone.

Three thousand yuan—Old Lu had saved for twenty months without eating or drinking well—and now it was gone.

Lu Huailin’s head buzzed from her yelling. He was just about to ask Gu Yihan why she hit his mother when he suddenly heard her soft laugh.

Gu Yihan curled her lips into a mocking smile and glanced lightly at him.

In her heart, she sneered.

If he dared to say even one word in defense of his mother, she would draw a clear line and walk away.

As if sensing it, unease surged in Lu Huailin’s heart. His back muscles tensed.

He instinctively said, “Mom, my wife isn’t unreasonable. She wouldn’t hit someone for no reason. You must have crossed her bottom line. That’s why she fought back!”

At this moment, his mind was very clear.

His wife was not someone who liked to make trouble.

She would never provoke Mother Lu first.

Besides, coming to the family compound during the New Year was already abnormal.

It must have been his mother who pushed Gu Yihan too far—that was why she struck back.
