B5SB -Chapter 320 Technical Consultant

A family of three sat at the dining table having breakfast.

Haohao held a round, plump egg in his chubby little hands. He rolled it across the table twice, then gently tapped it on the edge.

Then, with his tiny fingertips, he painstakingly started peeling the eggshell bit by bit.

Gu Yihan watched him and couldn’t help but notice that no matter how carefully Haohao peeled, the eggshell always stuck to the egg white.

She chuckled softly, “Do you want Mommy to peel it for you?”

Haohao, already anxious to the point of sweat forming on his forehead, quickly handed the egg to her.

With a dejected voice he said, “Mom, is Haohao really dumb? I can’t even peel an egg properly.”

Gu Yihan tilted her head, looking at him, smiling: “It’s not your fault, Haohao. It’s the egg’s fault.”

“Fresh eggs have a higher concentration of carbon dioxide in the shell, making the inner membrane stick tightly to the egg white. Once boiled, they’re hard to peel off.”

Haohao nodded without fully understanding, then stopped worrying and took small sips of his millet porridge.

Gu Yihan peeled the egg and glanced at Lu Huailin, who was drinking his porridge.

Casually, she asked, “Did Dad say he’d come this afternoon?”

“What’s wrong?”

Lu Huailin looked at his wife, puzzled. Didn’t she already know yesterday?

Gu Yihan quickly placed the peeled egg into Haohao’s bowl. “Is Mom coming?”

She wasn’t worried about much else—just that Mother Lu might cause trouble. She knew she wasn’t seen as a filial daughter-in-law in her eyes.

Lu Huailin pondered for a moment and said uncertainly, “She should come… probably. After all, she’s never seen Haohao even once since he was born.”

Hearing this, Gu Yihan frowned slightly and sighed: “Are you busy this afternoon? If not, can you take half a day off? You know how I have nothing in common with your mom.”

Lu Huailin smiled warmly: “Sure, I’ll take half a day off this afternoon.”

Gu Yihan smiled faintly at him and nodded: “That makes me feel better.”

She wasn’t overthinking things. It’s just that this mother-in-law/daughter-in-law relationship was really tricky.

After breakfast, Lu Huailin left for the military base.

Haohao lay on the sofa, reading a comic book.

Gu Yihan, wearing a checkered apron, tidied up the kitchen.

When she heard the phone ringing in the living room, she hurried over to answer it.

It was the sentry at the gate saying that a female comrade named Fu Ling had come to visit, and asked if she knew her.

Gu Yihan was momentarily surprised, then said, “I know her.”

Half an hour later…

Gu Yihan watched Fu Ling walk in carrying a mesh bag, teasing lightly: “Director Fu, your news really travels fast.”

Fu Ling smiled and warmly linked arms with Gu Yihan: “I heard from Zhang Limin yesterday that you arrived in the city. I thought I’d come see you today.”

Gu Yihan smiled and invited her in to sit.

At the doorway, Fu Ling saw Haohao lying on the sofa and placed the mesh bag on the coffee table.

She laughed as she approached Haohao and patted his little head, slightly embarrassed: “I didn’t know what your son likes to eat, so I bought some snacks for him.”

“You coming to visit is already enough, no need to bring anything,” Gu Yihan said.

Then she turned to Haohao and instructed: “Haohao, Aunt Fu brought you some snacks. What do you say?”

Haohao slid off the sofa, stood up, looked up at Fu Ling, and in a babyish voice said, “Thank you, Aunt Fu.”

Fu Ling looked at Haohao’s adorable little face and couldn’t help but soften completely.

She picked him up, sitting him on the sofa, and sighed: “Xiaohan, I really envy you. You have such a cute child.”

Gu Yihan was momentarily stunned. She realized Fu Ling, in her thirties, had never mentioned her family matters.

They weren’t very close, and she didn’t like prying into others’ privacy.

Turning to the kitchen, Gu Yihan poured a glass of honey water for her and smiled to change the topic: “Director Fu, why aren’t you at work today?”

Haohao obediently got down from Fu Ling’s lap and quietly resumed reading his comic on the sofa.

Fu Ling took the honey water, sipped, and then looked up at Gu Yihan sitting opposite her.

Smiling, she said: “Xiaohan, I heard you don’t have a job right now?”

Gu Yihan nodded with a smile: “I just wrapped things up and haven’t decided what work to do yet.”

Fu Ling didn’t beat around the bush and directly stated her purpose: “Xiaohan, I’m currently the head of the Technical Department at the city’s Shirt Factory. Our factory mainly exports shirts, but other silk garments, coats, and well-designed styles also have a lot of orders. I wanted to ask if you’d be interested in a part-time position as a technical consultant at our factory?”

Gu Yihan looked hesitant and explained: “Director Fu, I don’t know how to draft patterns.”

Fu Ling quickly reassured her: “You don’t need to draft patterns. Every week, our technical staff bring the drafts to the residential compound. You just give some guidance.”

Worried she might have left something out, Fu Ling added: “Xiaohan, don’t worry. The benefits are the same as regular technical staff, and the salary is 65 yuan per month.”

Gu Yihan couldn’t go to the city for work, so she had been thinking for a long time to find such an indirect solution.

She looked at Fu Ling curiously: “Sister Ling, can you make the decision?”

She had initially wanted to refuse, but then thought about having to send 40 yuan every month to Grandma Gu. Doing nothing while earning nothing wasn’t a solution.

This job didn’t require her to be on-site. Someone would come monthly, and she just needed to give advice—she could accept that.

Seeing that Gu Yihan had even started calling her “Sister Ling,” Fu Ling knew she had succeeded.

She quickly patted her chest and assured her: “Xiaohan, don’t worry. I’ve already notified the factory. The leaders know you can innovate based on drafts and especially appreciate your talent.”

Gu Yihan couldn’t help but twitch at the corner of her mouth. She wasn’t particularly talented; she just had seen a lot.

Anyone from the future arriving in this era could easily become a fashion master.

They agreed that every Friday, staff from the City Shirt Factory would come to the residential compound.

Fu Ling smiled, stood up, and bid Gu Yihan farewell.

Elsewhere…

Zhao Xu wore Auntie Zhang’s underwear, feeling uncomfortable because the fabric was too minimal. After only a few steps, it pinched him badly.

Helpless, he had to tug at it from time to time.

Lin Zhenhua walked behind Zhao Xu, a hint of confusion in his eyes: “Zhengwu, did you not wipe after going to the bathroom?”

Lu Huailin and Gao Guoqiang turned their gaze to Zhao Xu’s rear, just in time to see him tug slightly at his butt.

Zhao Xu noticed their looks and knew they were imagining the wrong thing.

Fuming with embarrassment, he shouted at Lin Zhenhua: “What nonsense are you talking about?”

“My butt got bitten by a bug, I was just scratching it.”

After saying this, he glared at the tactless Lin Zhenhua, snorted coldly, and strode toward his office.

He looked every bit guilty.

Lin Zhenhua turned to Lu Huailin and Gao Guoqiang, mocking Zhao Xu: “See? I guessed right. He’s guilty.”

Lu Huailin didn’t respond. He glanced at his wristwatch and told Gao Guoqiang beside him:

“I have something this afternoon. I’ll leave first.”

Gao Guoqiang nodded in acknowledgment.
