B5SB -Chapter 267 An Unusual Relationship

Qin Shou stood in the living room, holding his son, who was still sniffling in distress, and rubbed his back to soothe him.

“Isn’t it your grandma who should be feeding him, taking care of him? If she can’t even watch over a child, what use is she? Our son is ten months old. He can crawl and stand holding onto things, yet that old woman just leaves him on the bed by himself. If I hadn’t been quick-eyed and fast-handed, our son would have fallen off the bed! If anything happened to my son, both of you—grandmother and granddaughter—would be gone!”

Qin Shou was furious, lashing out at anyone nearby.

In his heart, nothing was more important than his son, the one to carry on his lineage.

Hearing this, Gu Meng’s expression immediately turned cold. She glanced at Gu Grandma.

A flash of icy suspicion crossed her eyes; it felt deliberate.

She threatened, “Grandma, you better take care of my son properly. If he suffers any harm, I’ll make sure it comes back on Gu Yihan’s son.”

Gu Grandma sneered, completely unafraid. If she wanted revenge on Haohao, she would need this couple to even step into the compound.

She had finally figured it out: Gu Meng and Qin Shou were ungrateful brats. No matter how well she treated them, it would never be enough.

She had painstakingly taken care of their child, cooked, cleaned, and never once received thanks—only threats.

Without another word, Gu Grandma walked over to Qin Shou and took the child from him.

Calmly, she said, “Since you two care so much about your child, from now on I’ll only be responsible for him. As for the household chores, laundry, cleaning, and cooking—you two can handle that yourselves.”

With that, she picked up the child and walked away.

Qin Shou watched Gu Grandma leave, offering no objection.

As long as his son was well cared for, whether the housework got done or not didn’t matter.

He cast a sharp glance at the stunned Gu Meng and snapped, “Aren’t you going to cook? Do you want to starve me?”

Hearing this, Gu Meng glared at Qin Shou and said, “I’ve been working all day, exhausted to death, and you still want me to cook?”

Qin Shou didn’t want to waste words. He pushed her into the kitchen and said coldly, “Which woman doesn’t cook after work? Why are you being so finicky? If you think it’s too tiring, then don’t work. I can hire someone, and the money I earn will support both me and our son.”

Gu Meng froze in shock and turned to look at Qin Shou in disbelief.

She demanded, “Qin Shou, what do you mean by that?”

Qin Shou looked at her coldly and scoffed, “Gu Meng, don’t forget—your job exists because of me. If it weren’t for the fact that you can have children, would I even take you, a second-hand woman?”

Gu Meng’s eyes widened, full of disbelief.

“How can you humiliate me like this?”

Qin Shou didn’t respond. A rural woman without family support could never really rise, no matter how much she struggled.

He gave her a sharp look and said coldly, “Hurry up and cook, or from now on, forget about working.”

He snorted and turned away.

From the beginning, what had attracted him to Gu Meng was her womb—her value as a childbearer.

If it weren’t for his need to earn money to support the family, he would have confronted her physically long ago.

Watching Qin Shou leave, Gu Meng couldn’t contain her fury.

A flash of murderous intent appeared in her eyes. If it weren’t for the need to investigate before buying rat poison, she would have poisoned him in a heartbeat.

That way, the job would always be hers.

Elsewhere, Hu Shan watched Gu Grandma nibbling on a peach biscuit and sighed. She stood, walked to the table, and poured a glass of water.

She placed it in front of Gu Grandma and softly said, “Grandma, did you have a quarrel with Gu Meng?”

Gu Grandma chewed on the biscuit and replied, “It wasn’t just with her; it was with the couple.”

Hu Shan sighed, unsure how to comfort her.

She glanced at the child in her arms and reached for the peach biscuits on the table, frowning.

“Grandma, let me hold the child.”

Gu Grandma looked at Hu Shan and smiled. She stood, handed over the child, and thanked her.

She returned to the bench, took a bite of the biscuit in her right hand, and sipped water from the enamel cup in her left.

Seeing Gu Grandma’s actions, Hu Shan opened her mouth. “Should I tell Xiaohan about your situation?”

Gu Grandma quickly looked up at Hu Shan and shook her head. “No need to tell Xiaohan. I won’t be here long—I’ll return to the compound soon.”

Gu Meng could no longer threaten her using Gu Yihan.

Hu Shan looked at Gu Grandma, curious about her nonchalance. “Gu Meng let you go?”

That didn’t make sense. A free servant—why would Gu Meng let her leave?

Gu Grandma smiled but said nothing.

Back when Gu Meng had threatened her, she had no education and couldn’t think of another way to avoid implicating her little granddaughter.

Her only thought was to come take care of Gu Meng—a clumsy but safe solution.

Since Gu Meng used her little granddaughter to threaten her, staying in their home for a year would neutralize the threat in the same way.

Thinking this, Gu Grandma looked at Hu Shan holding the child and gratefully said, “Xiao Hu, thank you. This past year, I owe everything to you. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t even have a place to speak.”

Hu Shan smiled softly, holding the child and sitting beside Gu Grandma. She spoke on Gu Yihan’s behalf, explaining, “I’m friends with Xiaohan. She asked me to take care of you, so of course I’d be careful.”

Gu Grandma covered the peach biscuit, exhaled deeply, satisfied with her meal.

She glanced at the child in Hu Shan’s arms, the large, innocent eyes staring at her own child.

A flash of disgust passed through her eyes.

Although she had raised this child since birth, because of Gu Meng and Qin Shou, she could never feel close to him.

She reached for the child in Hu Shan’s arms, turned to look out the door at the sky, and noticed Cheng Bo hadn’t returned yet.

Curious, she asked, “Didn’t your husband leave work with you?”

Hu Shan’s smile froze. She didn’t hide anything.

“He went to see his cousin’s child—it wasn’t feeling well.”

Gu Grandma looked at Hu Shan in surprise. Having lived in this large tenement for a year, she knew almost every family’s situation. Just by looking, it was obvious Cheng Bo and his cousin had an unusual relationship!

Thinking of how carefully Hu Shan took care of her, she whispered, “Xiao Hu, your husband treats his cousin’s child better than his own wife—that’s not normal!”

Hu Shan tilted her head, puzzled. “What’s not normal?”

Gu Grandma opened her mouth, thought for a moment, and said, “Who else would care so much for someone else’s child? Unless it’s their own!”

Hu Shan laughed, assuming Gu Grandma was warning her not to adopt Cheng Bo’s cousin’s child.

She patted Gu Grandma’s arm and smiled. “Don’t worry, Grandma! I won’t adopt Cheng Bo’s cousin’s child.”

Gu Grandma felt a surge of frustration, as if a mouthful of old blood was stuck in her throat.

She had made herself so clear, yet Hu Shan just didn’t get it.

To avoid getting upset, she stood, greeted her, and left with the child.
