Inside and outside the room, everything was eerily quiet.
Hu Shan, who was in the middle of eating lunch, was so frightened by the cold-faced youths from the Revolutionary Committee that she didn’t even dare chew her food.
Gu Yihan didn’t respond right away.
Her gaze shifted to Wang Guixiang and Sister Min standing outside the door—one looked worried, while the other’s lips were practically curling up in delight.
Without revealing any emotion, she placed her lunchbox into the drawer.
Then she looked at the leading youth from the Revolutionary Committee and said coldly,
“What do you want?”
“Are you Gu Yihan?”
The leader had a conspicuous scar on his face. When he spoke with a grim expression, he looked rather ferocious.
“She’s Gu Yihan. Are you looking for her?” Sister Min deliberately raised her voice.
Wang Guixiang tugged at Sister Min’s sleeve, signaling her to stay quiet.
After confirming her identity, the scar-faced youth took out a piece of paper—it was a search warrant—and handed it to Gu Yihan to glance at.
With a serious expression, he said, “Someone has reported that you are hiding prohibited items in your office.”
“That’s impossible!” Hu Shan cried out.
Gu Yihan wasn’t stupid. How could she possibly keep something so dangerous in her office?
Unless someone was deliberately framing her.
The leading youth shot Hu Shan a cold look and gestured to the people behind him.
Several of them rushed forward, surrounding Gu Yihan and roughly grabbing at her arms.
She slapped their hands away and shouted sharply, “Don’t touch me!”
Her eyes were fierce as she stared at them.
Hu Shan, clutching her belly, didn’t dare step forward. She could only shout anxiously,
“You’re acting like hooligans! I’m going to report you to the Revolutionary Committee!”
The leader snorted.
He walked over to Gu Yihan’s desk and slapped it hard.
“Everyone move aside. Let Comrade Gu make some room for us.”
Gu Yihan stayed where she was. She didn’t trust these people.
She was just about to ask Hu Shan to watch them together when a voice came from outside:
“You people from the Revolutionary Committee sure have some nerve.”
When Gu Yihan saw He Shengli walk in, her eyes instantly lit up.
With him here, she wasn’t afraid they would secretly plant evidence.
“Sister-in-law,” He Shengli said, giving her a reassuring look.
Gu Yihan nodded slightly and said, “Xiao He, I’m worried they’ll frame me.”
The leader looked displeased at being questioned.
“Sister-in-law, don’t worry. If anyone dares to stretch out their claws, I’ll chop them off.”
After speaking, He Shengli suddenly pulled out a Type-64 pistol from his waist and fixed the Revolutionary Committee members with a sharp gaze.
Except for the leader, the others all turned pale.
Seeing this, Gu Yihan finally relaxed.
She stepped aside neatly and stared at them closely.
The young men began searching quickly.
They rummaged through her desk drawers and all the documents on the desk.
They even knocked under the stool.
Nothing was found.
One of them looked up and shook his head at the scar-faced leader.
“We came today to verify the report. It seems Comrade Gu was falsely accused.”
The leader looked at Gu Yihan and spoke more gently.
The Revolutionary Committee needed evidence to arrest people. They always investigated beforehand.
When they first received an anonymous report accusing Gu Yihan of having an improper relationship, they had investigated thoroughly.
They discovered she was a military wife and that her husband held a fairly high position, so they didn’t take it seriously.
After all, no sane person would mess with a military wife who had such backing.
This time, however, it was a real-name report.
It claimed she was hiding forbidden foreign items, even specifying their location.
That was why they had believed it and come today.
Gu Yihan glanced at the leader and sneered.
“Who reported me?”
“Well…” He glanced at He Shengli, who stood protectively behind her.
“It was Su Yonghong. She used her real name.”
“Sister-in-law, do you know her?” He Shengli asked.
“A worker at the textile factory,” Gu Yihan said coldly.
She stared at the leader and said through clenched teeth, “I want to report Su Yonghong for spreading rumors and slandering a military wife.”
“Reports require evidence,” another youth said bluntly.
Gu Yihan ignored him and looked straight at the scar-faced leader.
“She spread rumors that I was having improper relations. Many people at the factory can testify.”
“She filed a real-name report accusing me of hiding contraband. That’s framing.”
After a pause, she sneered, “And as for evidence—she signed her name herself.”
“How did you people get in?” Factory Director Yang pushed through the crowd and shouted.
“Director Yang, if you waited any longer, it’d be too late,” Hu Shan finally spoke up.
She hurried over and briefly explained what had happened.
He Shengli ignored Director Yang.
After understanding Gu Yihan’s request, he walked straight up to the leader and declared firmly, “Comrade Su Yonghong has slandered and framed a military family member.”
“She has undermined military marriage and social stability.”
“She must be sent to the most difficult farm for labor reform.”
“If the Revolutionary Committee fails to act, the military will go through the Public Security Bureau instead.”
The leader narrowed his eyes.
He knew He Shengli was deliberately provoking him, since the police and the Revolutionary Committee didn’t get along.
After a moment’s thought, he said through gritted teeth, “We’ll personally escort Comrade Su Yonghong to the farm.”
With that, he turned and left with his men.
After they were gone, Gu Yihan slowly relaxed her clenched fists.
Luckily, when she had put away her lunchbox earlier, she had taken the chance to stash that unknown foreign literary book—someone else had left it in her drawer—into her personal space.
Otherwise, she would have been doomed today.
Her gaze fell on Sister Min.
She noticed her pale face and evasive eyes.
Gu Yihan snorted inwardly.
In the whole office, Sister Min was the closest to Su Yonghong.
Seeing there was nothing more to do, Director Yang left after greeting He Shengli.
“Sister-in-law, Director Yang said he’ll notify HR to fire Su Yonghong,” He Shengli said with a smile.
Gu Yihan smiled faintly, chatted with him for a while, and then sent him off.
