Next day

Reception of the Guesthouse

Gu Yihan, Secretary Jiang, and Cheng Bo handed their keys to the guesthouse attendant.

“Secretary Jiang.”

Upon hearing the voice, the three of them turned to see Master Wang, the driver from the garment factory, walking toward them.

The factory driver quickly reached them, smiling as he addressed Gu Yihan and Secretary Jiang.

“Director asked me to ensure you all get safely to the train station.”

Gu Yihan nodded with a smile.

Secretary Jiang’s eyes carried a trace of amusement as he said, “Then thank you for your trouble, Master Wang.”

The group followed Master Wang to where the car was parked.

Without a word, Cheng Bo efficiently opened the rear door and, without looking, sat down inside.

“Who are you?! Pervert!”

Gu Yihan and Secretary Jiang turned at the sharp shout and saw Cheng Bo being pushed to the ground by someone in the car.

Secretary Jiang frowned, walked over to Cheng Bo, and helped him up, asking coldly, “What happened?”

Cheng Bo had been caught off guard, and when he fell, he landed on his left arm. He moved it and, feeling no pain, relaxed.

Looking at Ye Qingqing inside the car, triumphant and smug, he muttered, “Where did this crazy woman come from?!”

Master Wang, the factory driver, quickly approached.

Glancing at Cheng Bo with concern, he asked, “Are you hurt? Do you need to go to the hospital?”

Cheng Bo shook his head. “I’m fine.”

After checking carefully and seeing Cheng Bo was indeed okay, Master Wang didn’t insist on taking him to the hospital.

He turned to Secretary Jiang and smiled awkwardly. “Secretary Jiang, sorry—I forgot to tell you in advance that Comrade Ye Qingqing is going to Kun City with you.”

Seeing that Cheng Bo was unharmed, Ye Qingqing shouted at him, “Who did you just call a crazy woman?!”

Secretary Jiang walked over. A trace of annoyance flashed in his eyes as he looked at Ye Qingqing. “What do you think you’re doing?!”

Ye Qingqing, noticing Secretary Jiang’s stern expression, felt a little guilty and muttered quietly, “It’s all because you won’t marry me.”

If she didn’t like Secretary Jiang, who would willingly press their warm face against someone else’s cold back? She’d even aged into a spinster in the meantime.

“Can this car fit this many people?”

Gu Yihan’s eyes were filled with doubt as she looked at Master Wang.

She didn’t care why Ye Qingqing was going to Kun City—she only cared whether she could get in the car to the train station.

If there wasn’t enough space, she’d rather walk a few more steps to catch a bus.

Before Master Wang could answer Gu Yihan, Ye Qingqing immediately jumped up and shouted, “Yes, it can!”

Cheng Bo, holding back his anger, said to Ye Qingqing, “Crazy woman, with you included, there are four of us—how do we fit?”

Master Wang laughed as he said, “Comrade Gu, don’t worry.”

He then pulled Cheng Bo to the front passenger seat.

Gu Yihan was stunned, realizing that the driver probably had an alliance with Ye Qingqing.

She glanced at Secretary Jiang. “You called her—handle it yourself.”

Saying that, she went to the other side of the car, opened the door, and got in.

Ye Qingqing lowered her head and carefully tugged at Secretary Jiang’s sleeve. In a soft voice, she asked, “Brother Jiang, are you angry?”

Secretary Jiang yanked back his sleeve, coldly glancing at Ye Qingqing without a word.

He walked past her to Gu Yihan’s side.

Opening the car door, he whispered to Gu Yihan, “Comrade Gu, sit next to her.”

Gu Yihan glanced at him and scooted slightly closer to make room.

Just as Secretary Jiang was about to get in, Ye Qingqing grabbed his arm from behind. “Brother Jiang, Comrade Gu is married. You can’t sit next to her!”

Cheng Bo sat inside the car, sneering: “You’re unmarried. Better not take the train—don’t tarnish your pure reputation.”

Gu Yihan’s lips curved slightly—at least Cheng Bo’s mouth was occasionally useful.

Ye Qingqing’s face darkened with anger, glaring at Cheng Bo.

Secretary Jiang swatted Ye Qingqing’s hand aside without lifting an eyelid.

He left a single sentence: “You don’t have to come with us.”

Then he got into the car and shut the door in one motion.

Outside, Ye Qingqing’s eyes were slightly red, and she felt extremely wronged. She wanted to storm off in anger.

But thinking about her parents at home selecting a suitable match for her, she refused to give up, wanting to fight for her love one more time.

Gu Yihan looked at Ye Qingqing, surprised.

She didn’t expect that even with Secretary Jiang’s clear refusal, the girl would insist on following them to Kun City.

She couldn’t help but admire her persistence.

Kun City Train Station

As soon as the train arrived, Gu Yihan grabbed her handbag and got up, running as fast as if being chased by a wolf.

“Comrade Gu, why are you running so fast?”

Cheng Bo called out suspiciously, watching her back.

Ye Qingqing followed closely behind Secretary Jiang, softly asking, “Do you like Comrade Gu?”

Secretary Jiang’s expression turned cold, and he scolded her in a low voice, “What nonsense are you talking about?”

Ye Qingqing felt a pang of bitterness.

Since boarding the car, her eyes had never left Secretary Jiang; she had observed every single movement.

“You’ve been staring at her all the way,” she said.

Secretary Jiang was furious at her words, thinking she was simply being unreasonable.

Did he not know whether he was looking at Gu Yihan or not?

He said coldly, “Don’t waste your effort on me.”

Ye Qingqing’s breath caught, her heart feeling tightly squeezed.

Choking back tears, she said, “It doesn’t matter if you like her—she’s married.”

As soon as Gu Yihan got off the train, she saw Lu Huailin standing in the crowd.

She immediately tiptoed, waving her arms, and shouted loudly, “Lu Huailin, over here…”

Hearing his wife’s voice, Lu Huailin walked straight toward her.

He patted her head, feeling a surge of concern. “Wife, are you tired?”

Gu Yihan shook her head and handed him her handbag.

“Comrade Gu, is this your lover?” Cheng Bo said with a smile.

Gu Yihan stood beside Lu Huailin, giving Cheng Bo a faint smile.

She said, “Comrade Cheng, please inform Secretary Jiang—we’ll leave first.”

Seeing that Gu Yihan didn’t plan to introduce him to her lover, a trace of displeasure flashed in Cheng Bo’s eyes. He gave a faint “hmm.”

On the way back to the housing compound, Gu Yihan looked at Lu Huailin driving and softly asked, “Has Haohai been looking for me?”

Lu Huailin couldn’t help but laugh. “He has! Every night, if he doesn’t see you before bed, he cries!”

Yet he never told his mother—her son hadn’t noticed she was gone at all. He slept on time, obedient as ever.

Gu Yihan’s heart instantly ached as she imagined Haohai crying at night, mouth wide open, not seeing her.
