“Knock, knock, knock.”

“Who is it?!” Gu Yihan said impatiently.

She had returned to the guesthouse very late yesterday after leaving the garment factory, and now someone was disturbing her early in the morning.

“Officer Gu, want to go out for a walk?”

When Gu Yihan heard that it was Secretary Jiang, her anger flared, and she shouted, “No!”

Cheng Bo glanced at Secretary Jiang, who had just been given the cold shoulder, and a trace of mockery flickered in his eyes.

He smirked, “Cousin Jiang, we still have to go to Hu Shan’s parents’ house for lunch at noon!”

Secretary Jiang glanced expressionlessly at Cheng Bo, then turned and went back to his room.

Gu Yihan slept until ten in the morning.

Rubbing her rumbling stomach, she slipped into the storage space.

She looked at the stacks of corn, rice, and wheat in the corner.

Frowning, she muttered, “Good thing we only bought ten thousand jin of each.”

Even so, she didn’t know how long it would take to finish all this!

Hu Family

Mrs. Hu had her hair neatly styled and wore a clean, tidy Lenin-style suit, standing anxiously at the doorway.

She muttered, “Why aren’t they here yet?”

She hadn’t seen Secretary Jiang in two years.

Hearing footsteps, she quickly stepped forward. Seeing Secretary Jiang and Cheng Bo in the alley, the corners of her mouth lifted.

She hurried to greet them, complaining, “Why are you so late?”

Secretary Jiang handed Mrs. Hu a mesh bag and smiled, “Aunt, this is some malted milk powder and brown sugar I specially bought for you.”

Mrs. Hu took the bag, her smile impossible to hide, patting his back.

“You coming here is enough to make me happy, why spend money unnecessarily?” she said with a hint of concern.

Secretary Jiang linked his arm with hers, smiling, “You’ve been thinking about me all this time, shouldn’t your nephew think of you too?”

Mrs. Hu couldn’t help but laugh at his words.

Cheng Bo glanced at Secretary Jiang, pursed his lips, and muttered under his breath, “What a flatterer.”

“Old Hu, look who’s here!”

Mr. Hu, sitting on the sofa, put down his newspaper after hearing Mrs. Hu’s cheerful shout.

He chuckled, “You’ve been calling almost a hundred times this morning already.”

Secretary Jiang smiled and greeted him, “Uncle.”

Mr. Hu hurriedly invited him to sit on the sofa, joking, “Have you seen that Ye girl from the Ye family yet?”

Thinking of Ye Qingqing, Secretary Jiang’s head throbbed uncontrollably.

Mrs. Hu poured a glass of water and placed it on the coffee table in front of him.

She sighed, “That Qingqing child was spoiled at home; she still acts like a little kid sometimes.”

Cheng Bo watched as both Mr. and Mrs. Hu focused all their attention on Secretary Jiang, barely controlling his expression.

“Oh, by the way, why didn’t that lady come with you?”

Mrs. Hu asked, puzzled, looking at Secretary Jiang.

“She probably hasn’t gotten up yet!” Cheng Bo interjected.

Mrs. Hu: “……”

The living room fell silent for a moment. Cheng Bo looked up to see Mr. Hu glaring at him.

Mrs. Hu sighed at Cheng Bo, “Little Cheng, it’s very rude to interrupt someone when they’re speaking.”

Cheng Bo felt slightly embarrassed but held back his anger.

Aren’t Mr. and Mrs. Hu just looking down on him because of his humble background?

They seemed gentle on the surface, but in reality, they couldn’t care less about him.

Secretary Jiang almost laughed at Cheng Bo’s expression, quickly changing the subject, “Aunt, Officer Gu didn’t know we were coming to your house.”

Mrs. Hu wasn’t disappointed that she hadn’t seen Gu Yihan; she just wanted to ask her to take good care of her silly daughter at the textile factory.

Elsewhere, Gu Yihan had just finished lunch in her storage space.

Suddenly, there was a loud “Bang, bang, bang” at the door. She quickly slipped out of the space.

Standing in front of the door, she whispered, “Who’s there?”

“Officer Gu, I’m Ye Qingqing, the publicity officer from the garment factory,” came the voice.

Gu Yihan froze. Publicity officer Ye Qingqing?

Why was she looking for her? Besides, she didn’t even know this person.

Being in a strange place, she decided to be cautious.

“You’ve got the wrong person,” Gu Yihan said coldly.

Ye Qingqing, standing at the door, felt her face darken with anger. How could she have the wrong person? She had only taken two days off and yet missed Secretary Jiang.

“Open the door! Gu Yihan, I’m Secretary Jiang’s fiancée! Have you no shame, trying to seduce someone else’s fiancé?!”

Ye Qingqing pounded on the door, shouting.

Gu Yihan’s expression turned cold. She sat on the bed and didn’t respond.

Hearing no movement inside, Ye Qingqing angrily kicked the door.

“What are you doing?” The guesthouse attendant rushed over upon hearing the noise.

Ye Qingqing glared with her big dark eyes at the attendant, “The lady inside is seducing my fiancé!”

Hearing the attendant coming, Gu Yihan opened the door.

Without looking at Ye Qingqing, she turned to the attendant and asked, “Excuse me, how do I get to the local police station?”

The attendant was stunned by the question, and instinctively said, “Go out the door, turn right, and walk straight for twenty minutes.”

Ye Qingqing was furious that Gu Yihan not only ignored her but even had the nerve to ask for directions to the police.

“How can seducing someone else’s fiancé be justified?!” she shouted.

Gu Yihan thanked the attendant, then turned to Ye Qingqing, “Come on, I want to ask the police what punishment is for slandering a military officer’s wife!”

Hearing this, Ye Qingqing’s big round eyes widened. She blurted out, “You’re married?!”

Gu Yihan coldly looked at her, retorting, “What do you think?”

Ye Qingqing’s expression instantly darkened. She ground her teeth and said, “Ren Jingjing, I won’t forgive you!”

Then she immediately grabbed Gu Yihan’s arm, smiling mischievously, “I’m sorry, Sister Gu, please forgive me.”

The guesthouse attendant gaped at Ye Qingqing’s sudden change in demeanor.

Gu Yihan pulled her arm back, thinking this Ye Qingqing must have something seriously wrong.

Seeing Gu Yihan about to close the door, Ye Qingqing immediately reached out to stop it.

Pouting, she said, “Sister Gu, I was deceived by Ren Jingjing; she tried to drive a wedge between us.”

“How old are you?” Gu Yihan asked.

Ye Qingqing was almost dumbfounded, “21.”

“I’m 20,” Gu Yihan said, then pushed Ye Qingqing’s hand away from the door.

With a “slam,” the door closed.

Ye Qingqing stood foolishly at the doorway.

Thinking about how she had just coquettishly called a younger woman “sister,” she shouted, “How embarrassing!”
