Gu Yihan threw off the covers, quickly got dressed, put on a maternity pad, and got straight out of the delivery bed.

Grandma Gu was startled by her little granddaughter’s decisiveness and hurried over, holding the baby in her arms.

Worried, she asked, “Be careful! You just gave birth—how can you treat your body like this?”

Gu Yihan didn’t respond, instead taking Grandma Gu by the arm and heading toward the delivery room exit.

A young nurse saw Gu Yihan’s actions and quickly stepped forward to block her.

Frowning, she said displeasedly, “What are you doing? It’s just weighing the baby!”

Instinctively, Gu Yihan positioned Grandma Gu, who was holding the baby, behind her.

Nurse Shi, carrying another newborn, walked to the young nurse’s side and added, “Exactly—it’s just a basic checkup.”

Gu Yihan’s gaze turned cold as she looked at the young nurse and snapped, “Are you deaf? I said no.”

The young nurse retorted, “Why are you biting the hand that feeds you? You don’t recognize good intentions!”

Gu Yihan’s eyes flicked between the two nurses, sneering, “Whether your intentions are good—only you know that.”

Hearing this, the young nurse instinctively glanced at Nurse Shi, then turned back to Gu Yihan, guilty, and shouted, “Don’t slander us!”

There were four mothers in the delivery room, with only two doctors attending—very busy.

The doctor who had just delivered Gu Yihan’s baby was calming the other mothers in labor when he heard the young nurse shouting. Annoyed, he said, “Quiet! This is a delivery room.”

The young nurse looked aggrieved. “Doctor Lan, the newborn hasn’t been examined yet, but they insist on being discharged.”

Doctor Lan glanced at Gu Yihan standing nearby, realizing she had somehow gotten out of bed on her own.

He softened his tone. “If you’re worried about the baby, you can follow along the entire time. After all, the baby was born in our hospital, and we are responsible for their safety.”

Gu Yihan looked directly into his eyes and said coldly, “I said no. If something happens, we’ll take responsibility ourselves.”

Doctor Lan hadn’t expected Gu Yihan to be so stubborn, showing no concern for the baby’s condition.

Another doctor intervened, stopping Doctor Lan from getting angry.

Smiling, he said, “Since the baby’s parents don’t care, we can’t force it, right?”

Gu Yihan nodded to the doctor who had spoken up and said, “In that case, can we leave?”

By now, Doctor Lan had no good impression of Gu Yihan—she had zero concern for the child’s wellbeing.

Meanwhile, one mother in labor was experiencing intermittent cramps. She said, “Doctor, my stomach feels like it’s twisting.”

Doctor Lan didn’t have time to deal with Gu Yihan and quickly checked the mother—she was a few centimeters dilated.

The other attending doctor added, “The mother needs to be observed in the hospital for twenty-four hours to prevent bladder compression and inability to urinate after delivery.”

The two nurses exchanged intense looks with Gu Yihan, nodding repeatedly.

Gu Yihan felt these two assisting nurses had ulterior motives. Regardless, she decided to leave the delivery room first.

She exchanged a glance with Grandma Gu and deliberately said, “Grandma, let’s go to the ward first.”

The young nurse’s eyes lit up. “I’ll take you to your ward.”

Outside the delivery room, Lu Huailin paced anxiously in the hospital corridor.

Xiao Wu, feeling dizzy from watching him, said, “Don’t worry, Captain. Your wife will be fine. She’ll definitely give you a big, healthy boy.”

Lu Huailin quickly interrupted, “What nonsense? My wife likes girls.”

Xiao Wu widened his eyes. “You don’t want a boy either, Captain?”

Lu Huailin gave Xiao Wu a glare but said nothing.

Who said he didn’t want a boy? Of course, he hoped for a son—so one day he could also serve as a soldier defending the country.

But since his wife wanted a daughter, a son was naturally less important than her happiness.

Xiao Wu, seeing Lu Huailin remain silent, assumed he too preferred a girl and gave him a thumbs-up. “Captain, I admire you.”

Lu Huailin ignored Xiao Wu, keeping his eyes fixed on the delivery room door. After thinking for a moment, he walked over and was about to press his ear to the door to listen.

Creak.

The delivery room door was pulled open by the young nurse.

Grandma Gu, holding the baby with one arm and supporting Gu Yihan with the other, walked out of the delivery room.

Lu Huailin froze, stunned—how had his wife gotten out on her own?

He quickly went over, lifted her into his arms, and whispered, “Wife?”

Gu Yihan pressed her head tightly against Lu Huailin’s chest, tugged at his clothes, and whispered, “Husband, let’s get discharged immediately.”

Hearing this, Lu Huailin paused, casting a glance at the young nurse leading the way.

He didn’t know what had happened, but he trusted his wife’s judgment.

Carefully holding Gu Yihan, he turned to Xiao Wu. “Xiao Wu, go handle the discharge paperwork.”

Although confused, Xiao Wu immediately responded, “Yes, Captain.”

The young nurse was stunned by him calling Lu Huailin “Captain,” and could only watch him walk away.

Her voice trembled as she looked at Lu Huailin in his gray Zhongshan suit. “You… are a soldier?”

Lu Huailin, now sensing the problem, gave her a cold glance and walked toward the parking lot with Gu Yihan in his arms.

At the Nurse’s Office.

Smack!

Nurse Shi slapped the young nurse to the ground.

“Useless! You can’t even handle something this simple?”

The young nurse propped herself up on her hands and looked expressionless at Shi. “Don’t go too far! You actually threatened me to switch a military wife’s baby!”

Shi stepped closer, bent down, and grabbed her chin, sneering, “So what if I went too far? What can you do to me?”

The young nurse’s eyes flickered as she looked toward the door. “Shi Lan, you’re just bullying me because Nurse Cao is your aunt.”

Shi Lan: “So what?”

Young nurse: “Aren’t you afraid I’ll report you?”

Shi Lan gave her a cold glance, mocking, “Go ahead! You didn’t succeed anyway. Even if you did, it would still be your own doing, right?”

The young nurse trembled with anger and shouted hoarsely, “Shi Lan, you’ll get your comeuppance!”

Nurse Cao, who had been listening at the door, kicked it open.

Bang!

The office door flew open. Nurse Cao coldly glared at the young nurse. “You, out!”

The young nurse shot a spiteful glance at Shi Lan, smirked, and walked out.

Shi Lan, startled by the sudden appearance of Nurse Cao, stammered, “A…unt.”

Nurse Cao walked slowly up to Shi Lan and, without a word, slapped her twice across the face.
