Gu Yihan heard Lin Yifei’s footsteps fading away.
She carefully stepped out, glanced at his retreating figure, and sighed, “Caring for others too much can really bring you a lifetime of bad luck.”
Then she sat back on the large stone stool to bask in the sun, her eyes following Maomao and Xiao Wu at the foot of the mountain.
She hadn’t even noticed when Xiao Wu had arrived.
“Xiaohan”
Hearing the clear, crisp call, Gu Yihan turned slightly—and it was Li Yajing.
She slowly stood up, and as soon as she steadied herself, Li Yajing threw herself into her arms, bouncing and exclaiming, “Finally found you!”
Gu Yihan looked at Li Yajing with amusement, curious about how she had known where she was. She asked with a smile, “How did you know I was here?”
Li Yajing glanced down at Maomao and Xiao Wu at the foot of the mountain, then tugged Gu Yihan toward them. She didn’t forget to answer, “When I was looking for you, I ran into my cousin. He told me.”
Gu Yihan froze mid-step, raising her voice, “Who did you say?”
Li Yajing tilted her head, confused, looking at Gu Yihan. “Lin Yifei! You haven’t forgotten my cousin already, have you?”
Once Gu Yihan confirmed she hadn’t misheard, she felt utterly embarrassed.
She had thought she had hidden well while eavesdropping, but Lin Yifei had already known everything.
Li Yajing affectionately linked her arm with Gu Yihan’s, sighing, “I really missed you and Maomao.”
“That’s why I came along this time when my aunt came.”
Gu Yihan tilted her head, puzzled, “Your aunt?”
Li Yajing thought back to the slap she had received from Qiao Shuhui and snorted coldly, “It’s none other than Qiao Shuhui.”
Gu Yihan was confused. Recently, she hadn’t heard any gossip about Qiao Shuhui at the residential compound. Was there something else going on?
She looked at Li Yajing with a puzzled expression. “Haven’t they divorced already?”
Li Yajing leaned close to Gu Yihan’s ear and whispered, “My aunt doesn’t want the child Qiao Shuhui is carrying.”
“My cousin disagreed, mother and son had a huge fight, and my aunt came over in anger herself.”
Gu Yihan understood: this was to prevent Qiao Shuhui from using the child to cling to Lin Yifei after giving birth.
Xiao Wu, holding Maomao’s hand, noticed Gu Yihan talking to a woman in a gray wool coat.
As they approached, Xiao Wu’s eyes lit up when he saw Li Yajing’s beautiful face.
He clutched his chest, heart racing—this woman was stunning. It was love at first sight.
Feeling shy, Xiao Wu glanced at Li Yajing, then asked Gu Yihan, “Sister-in-law, who is this lady?”
Gu Yihan caught sight of Xiao Wu’s flushed ears and found it amusing—he was clearly struck by her beauty.
She then looked down at Li Yajing, who was greeting Maomao, and smiled. “This is Lin Tuanzhang’s cousin, Li Yajing.”
Hearing Gu Yihan’s words, Li Yajing glanced at Xiao Wu and nodded, acknowledging him politely.
Xiao Wu froze, feeling a little disappointed. He had thought she was just his sister-in-law’s colleague.
Being Lin Tuanzhang’s cousin, her family background was undoubtedly good—she wouldn’t look at rural soldiers like them.
Li Yajing crouched down, ruffling Maomao’s head. “Maomao, do you remember me?”
Maomao rolled its eyes, refusing to cooperate, and wriggled free from her grasp to hide behind Xiao Wu.
Xiao Wu, seeing Maomao uninterested in Li Yajing, felt jealous. “Such a rotten dog, no luck at all,” he thought.
“If Li Yajing just touched him once, he’d probably be overjoyed.”
…
The next afternoon.
Textile Factory Parking Lot
Gu Yihan bent down to unlock her bicycle.
A suddenly affected, coquettish voice startled her: “Oh? And who did I think this was?”
Gu Yihan turned and saw Qiao Shuhui, slowly standing up and looking at her with slightly cold eyes.
Qiao Shuhui paid no mind to Gu Yihan’s gaze, brushing her hair off her shoulders.
In a sharp, high-pitched voice, she said: “Were you the one hiding and spying on me talking to Brother Yifei yesterday?”
“You love peeping so much—does Director Lu know?”
Gu Yihan’s eyes turned icy as she looked at Qiao Shuhui, smiling coldly. “And?”
“Planning to add another fish to your pond?”
Qiao Shuhui’s eyes flickered meaningfully at Gu Yihan. “Are you jealous of me?”
“If I want, even Lu Huailin won’t escape my grasp. Want to bet?”
Gu Yihan felt sick to her stomach at Qiao Shuhui’s flickering eyes.
It seemed this idiot really wanted to seduce her husband, Lu Huailin.
Qiao Shuhui deliberately protruded her recently rounded belly, walking around Gu Yihan like a show.
“Shen Yujie wouldn’t sleep with his wife for me.”
“And Brother Yifei won’t ignore me for the child in my belly.”
Gu Yihan, seeing Qiao Shuhui’s smug expression, thought she looked like a rooster with peacock feathers stuck on its head.
She chuckled lightly and said calmly, “Only you treat Shen Yujie like a precious toy. Truly, a despicable woman is always dramatic.”
Yu Shanyue, on the other hand, didn’t care—her personality would probably wish Shen Yujie left her alone.
Qiao Shuhui’s face turned cold. She snorted, “Don’t come near Lin Yifei. I won’t forgive you. I’ll drag you down even if I die.”
Gu Yihan had always thought Qiao Shuhui was seriously ill, almost delusional.
She couldn’t help but ask out of curiosity, “Why do you assume I’d try to take Brother Yifei from you?”
Qiao Shuhui felt a pang in her heart. She had had numerous prophetic dreams in recent days.
In her dreams, she never met Gu Yihan in her life, lived happily with Lin Yifei, and had two children.
She was loved and adored her whole life, enjoying high status.
Shen Yujie, for her sake, remained unmarried, loving her children as his own.
According to the dream’s clues, Lin Yifei would appear at the residential compound gate when he returned from a mission yesterday.
So she tried it—and it really happened.
Thus, she believed that as long as Gu Yihan didn’t exist, Lin Yifei would eventually remarry her.
Qiao Shuhui thought this was heaven’s warning: that Gu Yihan, the evil supporting character, had stolen the destiny of this transmigrated heroine.
“Woof, woof, woof.”
Gu Yihan heard Maomao’s voice. It ran swiftly to her, circling around her.
She patted Maomao’s head, feeling concerned—so far away, she didn’t know who the dog had come with to the textile factory.
Not wanting to entangle with Qiao Shuhui, she said dismissively: “Don’t worry. I won’t have any contact with Lin Yifei.”
Qiao Shuhui didn’t quite believe her and blurted out, “Even when he rises to power, you still won’t…”
Her voice cut off abruptly. She fell silent, glaring at Gu Yihan, leaving a harsh warning: “You better remember what I said today.”
After delivering her threat, Qiao Shuhui turned and left. Staying wouldn’t help—Gu Yihan couldn’t do anything, and she was just venting.
Gu Yihan watched her retreating figure, pondering her unfinished words.
She finally realized: Qiao Shuhui was clinging tightly to Lin Yifei because of his status and position.
