Qi Yanran followed the soldier into the investigation room with her heart in her throat. When she pushed the door open, she saw Du Xiao with red eyes, explaining something to Brigade Commander Zhang.

When Du Xiao saw Qi Yanran, she quickly walked over to her, a flash of smugness in her eyes.

Yet she choked up and said, “Yanran, I really helped you mail that letter to Gujia Village.”

Brigade Commander Zhang’s face darkened. He snorted and raised his hand, slapping the letter onto the table.

When Qi Yanran heard that he said she had instructed Zhou Jianguo to report Gu Yihan, she suddenly raised her head and looked at Du Xiao in disbelief.

In the Investigation Room, Only Qi Yanran and Brigade Commander Zhang remained.

The room fell silent.

After sitting down, he looked at Qi Yanran, who stood there with her head lowered like a frightened quail.

“You can’t stay in the Kun City Military District anymore.”

Qi Yanran’s eyes reddened. She looked up at him and said tearfully, “Uncle Zhang, I was wrong. I won’t dare do it again.”

His gaze swept over her, his voice cold.

“Yanran, you should know this.”

“If I weren’t the one investigating this, and it were someone else, do you know what would happen to you?”

“Sabotaging a military marriage, moral misconduct, instigating others to report—any one of these is enough to get you expelled from the army and given a serious demerit in your file.”

Hearing his tone, Qi Yanran knew there was no room for negotiation.

He sighed. “Yanran, I was the one who handled your transfer here in the first place.”

“This time, I’ll ask your Aunt Zhang to arrange for you to go to another military district.”

He had been busy nonstop these days, and his head was aching badly. He closed his eyes and rubbed his temples.

Then he waved his hand. “Go back and pack your things.”

Qi Yanran hesitated and didn’t move.

He opened his eyes. “Do you have something else to say?”

She said softly, “About my parents… I’ll need you to explain it to them.”

“I know,” he replied tiredly. “You may go.”

In the Art Troupe Dormitory, Qi Yanran planned to ask Du Xiao about Zhou Jianguo’s report. She was just about to push open the door when she heard manic laughter inside.

Du Xiao scrambled up and rushed at her.

Qi Yanran dodged and kicked her in the calf, sending her sprawling face-first to the ground.

Before she could rise, Qi Yanran straddled her abdomen and pinned one of her arms.

She slapped her repeatedly while scolding her.

“You little bitch, keep pretending!”

“Why did I hit you? You know perfectly well!”

“Ah! You shrew! The troupe leader won’t let you off!”

Qi Yanran finally got tired and stood up, brushing her hands.

She looked down at Du Xiao, who was pretending to be unconscious.

“You think I’m afraid?”

“I’m being transferred soon. Before I leave, you’d better stay out of my sight.”

“Otherwise, every time I see you, I’ll beat you.”

She opened the door, then turned back.

“I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed.”
