Because the sound of the door being kicked was so loud, many military wives in the surrounding area turned to look toward Gu Yihan’s courtyard.

When they saw so many soldiers holding guns and surrounding several people whose faces they couldn’t clearly see, they assumed it was a mission in progress and hurried back into their homes in fear.

After all, their political education wasn’t for nothing—what shouldn’t be asked, they wouldn’t ask; what shouldn’t be seen, they definitely wouldn’t look at.

But Zhou Jianguo and Gu Aidang were nearly scared out of their wits by the cold-faced soldiers pointing guns at them.

Over the past few days, Brigade Commander Zhang had already been in a foul mood because “Little Hamster” had refused to cooperate and go with them. When he heard someone had kicked the door, he strode toward the entrance.

Cold air radiated from him as his icy gaze swept over Zhou Jianguo. With a sneer, he asked, “You’re the one who kicked the door?”

Zhou Jianguo froze when he heard the question and nodded blankly.

His legs were weak, and his voice trembled. “I… I came to the wrong place.”

He had never seen so many people pointing guns at him before. It felt as though, with a single order, he would be riddled with bullets.

Suddenly, his gaze landed on Qiao Shuhui, who was trying hard to make herself invisible. Trembling, he raised his hand and pointed at her, immediately shifting the blame.

“It was her! We couldn’t get in at first. She said my daughter was here and insisted on bringing us over. Leader, this really has nothing to do with me!”

He shouted desperately, “Leader, we really made a mistake! We were looking for Gu Yihan, not you people!”

Commander Zhang shot Qiao Shuhui a sharp look and snorted. “You’re Lin Yifei’s family member from the Second Regiment?”

Qiao Shuhui was extremely flustered. She didn’t know why there were so many soldiers in Gu Yihan’s home, but she knew she had definitely left a bad impression today.

She swallowed nervously and said with difficulty, “I… I’m Lin Yifei’s family member.”

Commander Zhang narrowed his eyes and chuckled softly. Having fought real battles, he could easily see through these women’s petty tricks—nothing more than rivalry and jealousy.

He looked sharply at Zhou Jianguo and Gu Aidang, then said to Qiao Shuhui, “I’ll talk to Lin Yifei directly about your matter.”

Qiao Shuhui’s heart skipped a beat. She kept comforting herself that Lin Yifei wouldn’t blame her.

Commander Zhang then instructed a young soldier beside him, “Go inform Regiment Commander Lu and Comrade Gu Yihan about the situation here.”

“Yes, sir!” the young soldier replied with a salute.

When Zhou Jianguo heard Gu Yihan’s name, his eyes lit up. He stared at the soldier entering the courtyard.

Rolling his eyes, he grabbed Gu Aidang and dragged him toward Commander Zhang.

Gu Aidang wasn’t prepared and was nearly pulled into a fall. He barely steadied himself.

Before he could react, Zhou Jianguo blurted out, “Leader, Gu Yihan is my biological daughter!”

Afraid he wouldn’t be believed, he shoved Gu Aidang in front of Commander Zhang.

“He can testify! Our children were switched at birth!”

Gu Yihan had just reached the doorway when she heard this. With a mocking tone, she said, “So now you’re trying to scam the army?”

Seeing her, Zhou Jianguo immediately threatened, “I gave birth to you! What, you don’t want to acknowledge me anymore?”

He suddenly remembered the letter that had told him he could report Gu Yihan to the Revolutionary Committee for bourgeois tendencies.

He snorted coldly. “I’ll report you for being bourgeois and abandoning your poor father who can’t even afford food!”

The surrounding soldiers all looked at him with strange expressions.

Gu Yihan ignored him and walked straight to Commander Zhang.

With a serious expression, she said, “Commander Zhang, I’ve never told them that I’m in the Kun City Military District.”

“I suspect someone leaked the whereabouts of military family members to threaten soldiers and achieve some ulterior motive.”

Commander Zhang’s gaze turned cold. He raised his hand slightly.

The soldiers immediately lowered their guns and swiftly subdued Zhou Jianguo and Gu Aidang.

Seeing things go badly, Gu Aidang had already shrunk back like a quail. After being restrained, he panicked.

“Xiao Han, I was forced by Zhou Jianguo! They said if you acknowledged him, they’d give me 300 yuan!”

Zhou Jianguo kept shouting, “You bandits! You went back on your word! Someone in your military district wrote me that letter—”

“Otherwise I wouldn’t—mmph—let go—”

Before he could finish, a soldier stuffed something into his mouth.

Commander Zhang stared at Zhou Jianguo and Gu Aidang with dark, icy eyes.

“Interrogate them strictly.”

Not far away, Qiao Shuhui clenched her fists tightly. Watching the two men being taken away, she deeply regretted getting involved.

Commander Zhang narrowed his eyes at her. Originally, he had planned to let her go home, but now…

Better to lock her up.

He ordered his guard, “Put Regiment Commander Lin’s family member together with those two. Let Commander Lin deal with it himself when he returns from training.”

Qiao Shuhui collapsed to the ground in fear.

Everyone returned to the courtyard. Commander Zhang went next door to check on “Little Hamster.”

Gu Yihan sighed and said to Lu Huailin, “Looks like Zhou Jianguo won’t dare claim me as his daughter ever again.”

Lu Huailin smiled at her fair face. “Don’t worry. With our little ‘hamster spirit,’ the leaders have to be cautious about anyone suspicious around you.”

She nodded and leaned close to his ear. “Do you think Commander Zhang can find out who wrote that letter?”

Lu Huailin almost lost control of his expression. Was his wife a little silly? How could something so simple not be investigated?

Before he could answer, Leng Xiao interrupted.

“Was that woman at the door the one Shen Yujie can’t forget?” he asked in shock.

Thinking of Qiao Shuhui, Lu Huailin snorted coldly. “It’s her.”

Leng Xiao exclaimed, “She’s not impressive from the front, and not spectacular from the back either! How did Shen Yujie fall for her?”

Gu Yihan burst out laughing.

Lu Huailin glanced at Leng Xiao. “Who knows? Probably blind.”

“If you’re that worried, go to the military hospital and see him yourself.”

After saying that, he took Gu Yihan’s hand and went back to their bedroom.

Leng Xiao was stunned.

They had grown up together—so why did it feel like Lu Huailin had such a big issue with Shen Yujie?
