Since Lu Huailin’s surgery had been successful and wouldn’t affect his training afterward, Captain Zhang finally felt at ease.
He still had military matters to attend to, so after bidding farewell to Gu Yihan, he left the hospital.
Gu Yihan pushed open the door to the operating room and looked at Lu Huailin lying on the hospital bed, completely drained of color.
She carefully walked to his bedside and touched his hand.
Shen Yujie hurried over to her side and said, “Sister-in-law, Lu Huailin isn’t waking up that quickly yet. You can go home and make some nutritious soup; by the time he wakes up, he’ll be able to eat it.”
“Does he have any dietary restrictions?” Gu Yihan asked, turning to Shen Yufei beside her.
Shen Yujie didn’t mind explaining patiently: “He just had surgery. He can only eat liquid food, like nutritious soups or porridge—something easy to digest.”
After memorizing the instructions, Gu Yihan turned to Xiao Wu behind her and said, “Xiao Wu, can you stay at the hospital and take care of Lu Huailin for me?”
“I’ll prepare your dinner at home and bring it over,” she added.
Xiao Wu didn’t hesitate. He quickly replied, “Sister-in-law, you can go home and make dinner without worry. I’ll take good care of Commander Lu.”
Only then did Gu Yihan feel reassured. After saying goodbye to them, she left the hospital and rode bicycle toward the family housing area.
Back home, Gu Yihan immediately grabbed an old hen from the chicken coop—this was the most nutritious meat available in the house.
She quickly boiled water, used her foot to hold the chicken’s wings, and took a knife to slit its neck.
Once the water boiled, she plunged the chicken into the scalding water, quickly plucked its feathers, and cleaned out the internal organs.
She placed the chicken into a ceramic pot and set it on the coal stove to simmer over low heat.
Returning to her bedroom, Gu Yihan slipped into her spatial dimension and scanned the entire space with her eyes.
The little hamster sensed her entering and immediately darted behind the supplies to hide.
In its mind, it raged silently: “What’s gotten into Gu Yihan? Did she discover me?”
Gu Yihan’s space wasn’t large, and after looking around, she hadn’t seen anything suspicious.
She shouted loudly, “Come out! I found you! Always playing tricks in my space, huh?”
The little hamster shivered all over. Hearing her say she’d seen it, it took a small step forward, then quickly retreated.
In its mind, it cursed: “Damn it! I almost got tricked by that woman Gu Yihan!”
Just as the little hamster retracted its leg, Gu Yihan sensed the disturbance in the space.
In an instant, she teleported behind the little hamster.
Seeing the mouse in her space, she screamed, “Ah… a mouse!”
Instinctively, she immobilized it with her spatial powers, grabbed a rolling pin, and started hitting it.
The little hamster didn’t expect to be frozen in place and took a solid hit on its head from the rolling pin.
“Ah… how dare you hit me, you ugly woman! I’m the little lord here!”
Gu Yihan was momentarily stunned—she actually heard the mouse speaking—but quickly swung the rolling pin even faster.
“I’ll crush you, you monster! They say after the founding of the nation, creatures can’t gain intelligence… and yet, you little mouse dared to!”
Thump, thump, thump!
The little hamster clutched its head with its tiny paws, screaming, “You’re killing me! Ah… wuwu… Gu Yihan, you fool!”
Hearing the mouse insult her, Gu Yihan became even more furious and swung again.
“Wuwu… Master, I’m not a mouse! I’m a super-powered hamster, very powerful!”
“I can protect you, and I have all kinds of potions that can accelerate wound healing!”
Restricted by the spatial dimension, the little hamster could only flatter Gu Yihan, boasting of its abilities.
Once Gu Yihan grew tired of hitting it, she stretched out her hand and said, “Give me a potion to restore my energy.”
The little hamster, wanting to cry but powerless, realized this Gu Yihan was a real demon.
With a flick of its tiny paw, it took a potion from its spatial cheek pouch and carefully handed it to Gu Yihan.
Gu Yihan’s eyes flickered with thought as she watched the hamster retrieve the potion.
She took it, but didn’t immediately drink it. She had always assumed it was a system and wouldn’t harm her, but now that she knew it was a super-powered hamster, she became much more cautious. Who knew if it might poison her?
The hamster felt like the sky was falling—it couldn’t read Gu Yihan’s thoughts anymore.
Gu Yihan toyed with the potion in her hand, her tone laced with threat: “Stay in your space and behave.”
“When I’m done with this busy period, we’ll discuss the matter of your space.”
The little hamster’s back shivered at her words, looking utterly defeated.
Gu Yihan teleported out of the space. The chicken soup she simmered used water from her spatial dimension.
At Deputy Battalion Commander Wang’s house, Lan Cao caught the aroma wafting from Gu Yihan’s home, constantly teasing her nose.
She couldn’t help but swallow in envy and anger. Why did other women live so luxuriously?
Lan Cao stood in the yard and deliberately shouted loudly: “Which woman’s eating all alone when her husband’s not home?”
“She’s courting divine punishment! That food is hard-earned by her man!”
Creak.
Deputy Battalion Commander Wang opened the door and scolded Lan Cao, glancing at her in the yard: “Do you want to offend all the military wives in the housing area?”
Lan Cao didn’t fear him. She replied casually, “Old Wang, next time you see Commander Lu, you better advise him.”
“Every family’s meat rations are limited, and he’s out on missions.”
“She’s eaten meat several times by herself. Doesn’t she think about her man at home?”
Wang was pleased with her thriftiness. As a soldier, he knew how risky every mission was. Every paycheck was hard-earned. Nodding, he said, “Next time I see Commander Lu, I’ll remind him.”
After more than two hours, Gu Yihan had finished simmering the chicken soup. She packed it in a lunchbox and rode her bike straight to the military hospital.
No sooner had she parked than Xiao Wu’s shout reached her: “Sister-in-law, Commander Lu is awake! He’s been transferred to a private ward.”
Gu Yihan walked alongside Xiao Wu to the ward.
She pushed open the door and saw Shen Yujie chatting idly with Lu Huailin.
Gu Yihan deliberately ignored Lu Huailin with a cold expression. She placed the lunchbox on the bedside cabinet.
She took out four large meat buns and handed them to Xiao Wu: “Xiao Wu, take these and eat first.”
Then she pointed to the lunchbox: “There’s also porridge in here. Drink some too.”
Xiao Wu happily accepted the buns and said, “Sister-in-law, you talk with Commander Lu; I’ll go eat.”
Shen Yujie also stood and said to Gu Yihan: “Sister-in-law, since you’re here, I’ll leave first.”
Just as Shen Yujie reached the door, Gu Yihan called out: “Doctor Shen, wait a moment.”
Then she handed him two buns: “It’s nothing special, Doctor Shen. Don’t mind it.”
Shen Yujie politely accepted them, smiling: “These are good things! How could I mind?”
Only Gu Yihan and Lu Huailin remained in the ward.
From the moment Gu Yihan entered, Lu Huailin’s eyes followed her. He looked at her with a wronged expression and said, “Wife, I was wrong.”
