Chu Ling glanced over nervously and noticed that after Fu Qingyu coughed up a mouthful of blood, his complexion actually looked much better.

Wan Sanjin also exhaled in relief after seeing this. “The master really is impressive.”

Bai Su patted Chu Ling’s head. “Give him two of the divine pills. After taking them, we’ll continue with acupuncture. It will take about half a month.”

The Ghost Scholar asked, “Half a month to cure the cold ailment?”

“Only to relieve it. To fully cure him, we’d need Fire Lotus Seeds,” Bai Su said with concern.

“Where are these Fire Lotus Seeds?” the Ghost Scholar asked.

“They only grow in extremely cold regions,” Bai Su sighed. “Even back then, I couldn’t find them—let alone now.”

The more Chu Ling listened, the more uneasy she felt. Were these two being overly concerned about Fu Qingyu?

Bai Su gently rested her hand on Chu Ling’s shoulder and whispered, “I know you’re suspicious. It’s just that his cold ailment is identical to one suffered by an old friend of mine. I also know he’s the grandson of the former Grand Tutor, Fu Tai, but he truly resembles my old friend.”

Chu Ling casually let Bai Su’s hand rest on her and pressed down firmly.

A soft, gentle smile spread across Bai Su’s face. “Don’t worry about me. I can act with a clear conscience as long as I do my best.”

Chu Ling quietly exhaled in relief. Letting Bai Su hold her hand again, she slowly withdrew the silver needles, then had Wan Sanjin turn Fu Qingyu over to continue the treatment.

Fu Qingyu’s eyes opened hazily, and he immediately saw the person performing the acupuncture.

Chu Ling had just inserted a needle when she smiled at Fu Qingyu. “Awake?”

Fu Qingyu nodded slightly.

“Don’t move. I still need to continue,” Chu Ling said, heating the needle and applying it again.

Wan Sanjin stood nearby so nervous that he didn’t dare speak. Only after Chu Ling finished did he seize a moment to ask, “Qingyu, how do you feel?”

“Better… much better,” Fu Qingyu said reassuringly with a smile.

Wan Sanjin breathed a deep sigh of relief, feeling his heart lighten. “Our master may act reckless at times, but when it counts, he’s extraordinarily capable.”

Chu Ling jabbed the silver needle toward him. “Wan Sanjin, if you keep talking nonsense, I’ll insert a few needles into you too—then you’ll be lying down like your friend.”

Wan Sanjin dodged and laughed proudly. “I avoided it!”

Qingtong’s eyes were slightly red as he knelt directly before Chu Ling, pressing his forehead to the ground. “Thank you, master. Thank you so much.”

Chu Ling quickly helped him up. “No need to kneel. Consider this debt owed by Wan Sanjin to me.”

Wan Sanjin immediately agreed. “Then I owe you, master.”

Fu Qingyu shook his head slightly. “It’s me who owes you, master.”

Chu Ling laughed and nodded. “Fine, then you all owe me.” She observed Fu Qingyu’s expression and continued, “The acupuncture must be done continuously for half a month. I’ll come at this same time each day. Is that convenient for you?”

“Convenient. Thank you, master,” Fu Qingyu said hoarsely.

Chu Ling waved her hand. “Don’t mention it. My teacher once said that if someone suffers from a cold ailment, we must do everything we can to help them.”

With that, Chu Ling reluctantly took a porcelain bottle from her pouch, poured out two divine pills, and handed them to Wan Sanjin. “Help him take these.”

Qingtong hurriedly helped Fu Qingyu sit up.

Wan Sanjin looked surprised. “Master, didn’t you only have four of these pills left?”

“That’s right… but a disciple must obey her teacher’s orders,” Chu Ling shrugged. She was practically heartbroken—each pill costs ten thousand gold coins!

Wan Sanjin immediately brought the food to Fu Qingyu’s lips. “Qingyu, eat quickly, or our lord will regret it.”

Chu Ling snorted coldly. “I’ve decided I’m going to the Floating Cloud Teahouse later and eat my fill.”

Wan Sanjin turned around with a sheepish smile. “Lord, eat as much as you like, stay wherever you like, and feel free to use my silver.”

Chu Ling rolled his eyes, letting Qingtong help Fu Qingyu lie down, then carefully took out the silver needles one by one and put them away. “My master said that this cold condition can only be alleviated with acupuncture. If you want a complete cure, you’ll need to find that… Fire Lotus Seed.”

Fu Qingyu let out a soft sigh, his face showing a bitter smile. “I know. I’ve been trying to find it, but there’s no news.”

Chu Ling let out a sigh. “People with early intelligence often face many hardships. It’s because you’re too clever that even heaven envies you.”

Fu Qingyu couldn’t help but laugh softly. “Thank you for your consolation, Lord.”

Chu Ling waved her hand. “Rest for a while. I’ll take your friend out for a bit to give you some space. Once you’ve rested, you can come out.” With that, she pulled Wan Sanjin along and left.

Wan Sanjin gently closed the door and looked at Chu Ling. “Thank you, Lord. Otherwise, Qingyu would have had to suffer even more.”

Chu Ling stroked her jaw, looking at him. “What does your elder brother think about you and Fu Qingyu?”

“Huh?” Wan Sanjin looked confused. “What do you mean, what my brother thinks?”

Chu Ling patted his shoulder. “Don’t worry. I definitely support you.”

Wan Sanjin still looked puzzled, but then thought of something else. “Earlier, when you were applying the needles to Qingyu, you were so careful, so tense. I noticed that. Since you have the intention, if you put in more effort, I’m also on your side.”

Chu Ling was bewildered. “Huh?”

“I understand. You still can’t resist, Lord,” Wan Sanjin said, then shook his head and walked away.

Chu Ling smiled and clenched her fists. Maybe it’s better if I just go and give Wan Sanjin a little beating.

When Wan Sanjin reached the front of the bookstore, his eyes widened in shock. He stopped at the entrance and didn’t go in.

When Chu Ling caught up, he patted Wan Sanjin’s shoulder. “What are you looking at?”

“Look… our Coroner Su, is intimidating people with his face,” Wan Sanjin said, stepping aside.

Chu Ling leaned forward and saw Su He sitting beneath the puzzle, looking slightly bored. He wore a deadpan expression and played with his autopsy tools in his hands.

Across from him sat a group of students who wanted to approach the puzzle but didn’t dare. Their faces were pale as they nervously stared at the knives, afraid Su He might suddenly fling one at them.

Finally, Su He noticed Chu Ling and Wan Sanjin, put away his knife, and stepped aside, pointing to the seats for them to sit.

Wan Sanjin swallowed nervously. “Lord, do you know the answer to the puzzle up there?”

Chu Ling looked carefully and then gave up. “I don’t know any of it.”

“What if we go up to host it and don’t know the answer? That would be really awkward,” Wan Sanjin hesitated.

“That’s not even the most awkward part. The real problem is if the students give their answers and we can’t tell if they’re right or wrong. That would be truly embarrassing.” Chu Ling took a step back. She wanted to slip away.

Wan Sanjin also took a step back. “Better to let Su He continue scaring them. Once Qingyu arrives, it’ll be fine.”

Chu Ling cleared her throat and sighed. “Our coroner has always dealt with corpses. Too much yin energy isn’t good for his body. He should be exposed to these living students to get some yang energy.”

Wan Sanjin nodded. “Right!”

“Actually, we’re doing it all for his own good. He’s like family to us,” Chu Ling said emotionally.

Wan Sanjin nodded firmly. “Exactly!”
