So it turns out that daydreaming in class to this degree is an art form in itself…

And so, while Minmin’s brutal, hellish training proceeded at full throttle, an unavoidable problem gradually surfaced…

Late at night, girls’ dormitory, under the desk lamp:

Minmin hunched over her study table in agony. Her “Transmigration Plan” notebook lay open; after each listed method for transmigrating there were dense lines of clauses — and, one after another, glaring red Xs!

The scene that most readily causes transmigration is a car accident… but…

Time rewinds to one month earlier:

Someone walked hesitantly from the East Fourth Ring to the South Third Ring, never able to bring herself to step out into the middle of the road… later a traffic cop stopped her and lectured earnestly, “Kiddo, you’re young — why are you thinking like this? There’s nothing in this world that can’t be solved. These days nobody’s life is easy, right? So don’t die here; cleaning up afterwards is a real hassle, you know…”

Someone staked out for three days and finally flagged down an unlicensed black-market driver, intending to do a death-defying reckless speeding stunt… but it took three hours to reach Chongwenmen, and the driver swore: “Fuck! Traffic again!”

Car-accident transmigration — Xed out!

Next up would be falling from a great height: jumping off cliffs, tripping hard, falling from a balcony… but…

Time rewinds to two months earlier:

After the nth time of throwing herself off the bed, chair, table, ladder and crashing to the floor… the downstairs neighbor came rushing up, kicked the door open and yelled: “If you make this much noise day and night again, I’ll smack you dead with one palm!!”

Someone, half-out-of-it from the fall, thought: “…Smack me dead? …Would that transmigrate me?”

The old woman froze…

Someone stood at the top of the stairs, took a deep breath several times but couldn’t bring herself to roll down… then someone from behind bumped into her! Completely unprepared, she lunged headlong down eighty-nine steps — only to land in a boy’s arms! After muttering a disappointed “thanks” and preparing to leave, the boy, blushing, stammered: “Zhao Minmin… actually I… actually I’ve liked you for a long time…”

Someone froze…

Someone toured all around Beijing but couldn’t find a satisfactory cliff; she decided to look outside the city after the summer break. Later she heard that cliff-jumping might not kill you properly, so she abandoned the idea.

She felt jumping off buildings might crush innocent bystanders or public property, and the sight of it would scare pure little children — so she gave that up too.

Falling-from-height transmigration — Xed out!

Other similar methods — electrocution-transmigrate, drowning-transmigrate, sleep-transmigrate, medium/transmitter-transmigrate, sneeze-transmigrate…

Tried again and again, failed each time!

Staring at the long string of bright red Xs in her notebook, Minmin sang heartbrokenly: “I wanted to say transmigrating~ really isn’t easy.”

Three days later, the dorm monitor found Minmin’s notebook. The wild array of suicide methods written inside prompted the school to renew their focus on college students’ mental-health counseling…
