“Alright!”
Ye Tian stood up, put down the vegetables in his hand, and gave his seat to his daughter.
Ye Shuangxue let out a sigh of relief.
Looking at Ye Tian’s back, she frowned. What was going on?
Why couldn’t she bring herself to say it?
So frustrating!
The little girl angrily tugged at a leaf of vegetable.
No, she couldn’t let Xiao Jiang and her brother get ahead. She had clearly come home first, and if they found out, they would surely tease her.
Thinking of this,
Ye Shuangxue gathered her courage again, staring at Ye Tian’s back. She opened her mouth, but the words wouldn’t come out. Frustrated, she got up and followed behind him.
Sun Wuji’s suspicious eyes watched his disciple acting so strangely. He didn’t understand what was happening.
Ye Tian turned around and almost stepped on his daughter. “Not feeling like picking vegetables anymore?”
Ye Shuangxue’s face turned red. Her big eyes stared blankly at Ye Tian as she kept silently cheering herself on.
“Once you start something, you need to finish it. Halfway through isn’t acceptable—especially since you promised…” Ye Tian hadn’t finished speaking when Sun Wuji immediately grew impatient. He stood up from a nearby wooden post and said, “You’re actually lecturing my disciple?”
“She’s my direct disciple…”
“Shut up!”
Ye Shuangxue was already flustered, and Sun Wuji’s interference made her even more annoyed. She glared fiercely at him.
Sun Wuji sulked, shrinking his neck, and muttered softly, “Master only wants what’s best for you. Isn’t this just because I saw you being bullied?”
Seeing that no one paid attention to him, Sun Wuji obediently sat back on the wooden post.
Seeing his daughter’s fierce expression, Ye Tian glanced at the pitiful Sun Wuji and said insincerely, “How can you lecture an elder? Guests are to be respected; you can’t be rude.”
“You understand, right?”
Ye Tian looked at Sun Wuji with a flattering smile.
Sun Wuji turned to glance at Ye Shuangxue. He felt a bit dizzy. Forget it—this meal isn’t worth eating anyway!
“I…” Ye Shuangxue opened her mouth, but before she could speak, hurried footsteps came from outside. Xiao Jiang and her brother must have returned.
Tensing up, Ye Shuangxue grabbed Ye Tian’s sleeve. With an expression like she urgently needed to pee, she stammered, “Don’t go… I… I have something to say.”
Ye Tian: ???
“I…”
Ye Shuangxue frowned, biting her pink lips and tilting her little face up to look at Ye Tian.
“I…”
Another failure.
Before she could gather her courage again, Xiao Jiang and Ye Yunting rushed into the room, both panting, their cheeks red from the cold, hair dusted with snow.
The charcoal fire inside crackled.
Xiao Jiang and Ye Yunting stared at Ye Tian and Ye Shuangxue.
Ye Shuangxue’s face was burning. She grabbed Ye Tian’s arm, eyes tightly shut, about to shout.
Suddenly, Xiao Jiang squeezed in, hugging Ye Tian’s legs, tilting his little head up and sweetly saying, “Dad.”
Ye Tian froze.
He widened his eyes, looking down at Xiao Jiang in disbelief. “What did you just call me?”
His voice trembled slightly, but the joy on his face could not be hidden.
Seeing Ye Tian staring at him, Xiao Jiang’s little face flushed even more. Summoning his courage, he shouted even louder, “Dad!”
Xiao Jiang called him “Dad” again, hugging his legs, little face tilted up, pure and adorable.
Ye Tian was nearly moved to tears by this one word.
It was the first time a child had openly acknowledged him as their father.
It hadn’t been easy!
In other words, the Ye Hanjiang scenario—he had already successfully won the child over.
The father-son bond drew closer with that simple “Dad.”
“Hahaha…” Ye Tian laughed heartily, poking Xiao Jiang’s armpits with both hands. Then, bending down, he lifted him into the air and spun him around in a circle.
“Hahaha…”
Xiao Jiang laughed joyfully. When Ye Tian stopped spinning, he held Xiao Jiang close and planted a kiss on his soft little cheek.
It was gentle to the touch.
Warmth lingered, not intense, but enough to ignite a spark in Xiao Jiang’s heart.
He clung tightly to Ye Tian’s neck, unwilling to let go.
Ye Shuangxue froze in place.
Ye Yunting was equally stunned, his small face flushed red.
Looking up at Ye Tian and Xiao Jiang, Ye Shuangxue pouted her small mouth in grievance. She even felt a twinge of jealousy toward Xiao Jiang, regretting her earlier hesitation. She should have been the first to call “Dad.”
“Wuwu…”
The more she thought about it, the more aggrieved she felt. The little girl rubbed her eyes with both hands.
Ye Tian looked completely bewildered.
Sun Wuji, concerned, hurried over from the other side of the house.
“What’s wrong?”
Ye Tian bent down and gently stroked Ye Shuangxue’s head. She pushed him away in a huff: “I don’t want you to care! Don’t care!”
With that, she stormed out.
Ye Tian, still stunned, quickly put down Xiao Jiang and was about to follow when Sun Wuji said, “You cook. I’ll go check on her.”
At that moment, Sun Wuji abandoned his usual playful demeanor, his expression serious.
Ye Tian knew that apart from himself, Sun Wuji was the only one who could genuinely care for Ye Shuangxue. In the original story, he eventually died for his disciple Shen Jie. Sun Wuji rarely accepted disciples, but once he chose one, he would give everything for them.
Outside the door.
Ye Shuangxue stormed out of the courtyard, and as she looked across the white snowfield, she suddenly regretted coming out.
Had Ye Tian followed?
Her first instinct was to glance back secretly.
But she didn’t dare be too obvious. She turned her head slightly, casting a side glance behind her, and when she heard footsteps crunching in the snow, a small smile appeared on her lips.
Ye Tian still cared about her.
“Good little disciple.”
Hearing Sun Wuji’s voice, Ye Shuangxue frowned and turned, pouting: “Why is it you?”
“Where’s Ye Tian?”
After speaking, she craned her little head to look behind, but seeing no one there, her small face fell.
Disappointment washed over her.
Sun Wuji chuckled, having witnessed the whole scene and understanding why the girl was upset. He thought for a moment and asked, “Do you dislike Ye Tian?”
“Yes! I just dislike him. He’s such a big fool, I don’t like him at all,” Ye Shuangxue huffed, kicking at the snow with her small feet as she spoke.
Snowflakes scattered.
Still unsatisfied, she continued kicking in her sulk.
Sun Wuji nodded, approvingly: “I think Ye Tian is detestable too, no sympathy at all…”
Before he could finish, Ye Shuangxue’s face darkened: “No sympathy, yet he lets you eat at our house? I think you’re even worse! Criticizing Ye Tian and pretending to be all proper—daily tricking children—you’re the real troublemaker!”
Ye Shuangxue huffed like a little lion with her fur standing on end.
Sun Wuji said, “Do you think I came to your house to eat willingly? Look at your place—it’s worse than a doghouse. If Ye Tian hadn’t insisted, I wouldn’t have come at all.”
Ye Shuangxue frowned, doubting the truth of his words.
Sun Wuji reached out and brushed the snow off her hair, continuing: “Ye Tian wants me to teach him self-defense. Think about it—if you learn it, won’t Ye Tian have to listen to you? If he wants to learn, he’ll have to flatter you! Right or not?”
