Since Tang Wan could cure her daughter, Widow Hong naturally listened to whatever she said.
Very soon, the group went back down the mountain. Tang Wan also stopped by Auntie Yang’s house to buy a few jars of honey.
Once they were home, Tang Wan wrote out a prescription for Widow Hong.
Her handwriting, however, left much to be desired.
Widow Hong thanked her over and over again before hurrying off with the prescription.
Watching her retreating back, Madam Jiang sighed.
“Parents’ hearts are always the same… Wan-niang, her daughter will really get better, won’t she?”
“She will. It’s not too serious.”
“That’s good.”
Madam Jiang silently breathed a sigh of relief.
What she didn’t know was that things weren’t quite as simple as Tang Wan made them sound.
The only reason Tang Wan could treat her was because she had penicillin in her dimensional space. Without it, things would have been much more difficult.
One could only say Yuan’er’s life wasn’t meant to end yet—she was fortunate to have met Tang Wan.
It had been a busy day, and both mother and daughter were quite tired.
In the afternoon, Li Dashan came by to take seventy packs of beef jerky. Not long after, Ling Sheng arrived with two of his friends.
The two were local bullies—one had the face of a harmless good guy, while the other had sharp features and a crafty, restless look.
The “good guy” was called Zhang San, the sharp-faced one Li Si.
Ling Yue didn’t entirely trust them, so she only gave them ten packs each, along with her rules.
After the two left, Ling Sheng said:
“I went to town to see my father. By coincidence, Shopkeeper Xu was inquiring about beef jerky. As soon as he heard I had some, he immediately told me to bring fifty packs.”
Ling Yue was overjoyed.
“Really?”
“Why would I lie? Look, he already gave me the money. Count it yourself. Once you’re done, quickly give me fifty packs so I can deliver them.”
“Alright!”
Ling Yue cheerfully took the silver and hurried to hand him fifty packs of beef jerky.
Ling Sheng left with the goods.
That night, Ling Yue counted the silver, smiling so wide her mouth could hardly close.
Money was just too easy to earn.
“All thanks to Sister-in-law. Mother, very soon I’ll be able to buy you a big house in town!”
Each pack of beef jerky sold for ninety-five coins, and today they had sold one hundred packs.
At this rate, she would soon be a little rich woman.
Madam Jiang laughed.
“Now you finally see your sister-in-law’s worth? Don’t you dare forget your roots later!”
“I know, I know, I won’t forget!”
Mother and daughter happily dreamed about the future, while Tang Wan was busy with her own experiment in her room.
The table was full of bowls, each containing different amounts of honey. Besides honey, there were also eggs and herbs…
Ling Yu thought she had practically moved every bowl from the house into her room.
“What are you doing?” Ling Yu finally asked, unable to hold it in any longer.
Tang Wan didn’t even look up.
“Making face masks.”
“Face masks?”
“Mm. For applying to the face.” Tang Wan explained while mixing egg whites into honey, but it just turned into a sticky mess.
The proportions weren’t right?
She tried again. Still wrong.
Ling Yu raised a brow.
“And what good are these face masks?”
“They do plenty—moisturizing, whitening, fading scars.” Tang Wan finally put down her work with a sigh.
“Without milk, the effect won’t work. Tomorrow I’ll check the town.”
“You’re making these masks to sell?” Ling Yu asked.
“No.” Tang Wan shook her head, then told him about Yuan’er’s situation.
“Her face is covered with red sores. They’ll leave scars. I want to use this on her.”
“You really are kindhearted.” Treating the illness was one thing, but now she wanted to ensure the girl’s face was unscarred too.
“She’s pretty. It’d be such a pity to ruin that.”
After speaking, Tang Wan noticed Ling Yu give a cold snort and turn away. With strong survival instincts, she quickly added:
“Not prettier than you. In my heart, you’re the best-looking.”
