But Zhang Tao just wouldn’t stop courting disaster.
Soon, Tang Wan heard her say:
“Sister Wan, Yu Langjun and I are childhood sweethearts. If not for you, the one he would’ve married is definitely me. Now, I have no intention of taking your place, I only beg you to let me have a roof over my head—is that really too much to ask?”
Hearing this, Tang Wan narrowed her eyes at her in suspicion:
“You’re saying he likes you?”
Zhang Tao nodded, a trace of smugness flashing in her eyes. She opened her mouth to say more, but the next instant Tang Wan grabbed her and lifted her clean off the ground.
“You—what are you doing?” Zhang Tao gasped in shock.
Tang Wan hauled her straight to the door and flung her outside. Hands on her hips, she barked fiercely:
“If you dare come again, I’ll beat you to death!”
“You… how can you treat me like this? I only asked for a concubine’s place, I—”
“No way!”
Tang Wan cut her off, snatched up a sickle from the ground, and glared even more fiercely:
“If you don’t leave right now, I’ll kill you!”
“You shrew! Just you wait, I won’t let—”
Before Zhang Tao could finish, Tang Wan hurled the sickle at her. It stabbed into the ground, grazing the tip of her foot!
“Ah!” Zhang Tao’s face went pale. Terrified, she turned and bolted, not daring to utter another threat.
Tang Wan snorted coldly, then glanced at the few villagers loitering outside to watch the drama. She waved her fist menacingly, her tone dark and threatening:
“My husband doesn’t like her. Anyone who dares gossip otherwise—try it and see!”
The villagers all shivered in unison and scattered like startled birds.
Once they were gone, Tang Wan retrieved the sickle, returned inside, and shut the door.
The moment she turned, she was met with two worried faces!
Madam Jiang hurriedly explained:
“That girl was talking nonsense—Yu’er doesn’t like her.”
“Yes, yes, I can vouch for that! My big brother doesn’t even remember who she is!” Ling Yue added quickly.
Mother and daughter both looked so nervous that Tang Wan couldn’t help feeling puzzled.
Just then, Ling Chen ran over, clutching her leg and tilting his little head up at her with tear-brimmed eyes:
“Sister-in-law, what Mother and Second Sister said is true. Please don’t turn into the old sister-in-law again, alright? Achen doesn’t want the old sister-in-law back!”
…Alright then.
Tang Wan finally understood. She rubbed his small head and said seriously:
“Your sister-in-law isn’t angry. Don’t be afraid.”
“Mm!” Hearing that, Ling Chen relaxed.
Madam Jiang and Ling Yue both let out a long sigh of relief.
Ling Yue even spat in contempt:
“I never liked that Zhang Tao. Turns out she really isn’t any good.”
“Enough, don’t talk about her anymore—it’s irritating!” Madam Jiang said. “Let’s get back to work. Dashan still needs seventy packs of beef jerky.”
Ling Yue clenched her fist:
“Right! Work. We won’t let some ridiculous woman ruin our mood.”
Tang Wan smiled faintly, her gaze flicking briefly toward her room before she quickly looked away.
After they finished their chores, mother and daughter prepared to cook.
Once again, Tang Wan picked up a tray and headed inside to change her beautiful husband’s medicine.
This time, she was still angry—and wasn’t about to indulge him.
If he refused to cooperate, then… then she’d just pin him down and do it by force.
He was a weakling anyway—how could she not overpower him?
Tang Wan psyched herself up, marching into the room full of fire and spirit:
“Beautiful husband, time to change your medicine!”
Ling Yu glanced at her lazily, set down the book in his hand, and lifted his blanket of his own accord.
Tang Wan: ?
So… he’s willing to cooperate now?
I’d already prepared myself to go in hard, and now you’re cooperating?
Tang Wan gave him a suspicious look, then walked over to change his bandages.
She could feel his eyes on her the whole time—open, direct, and completely unrestrained.
Tang Wan raised her head and glared at him a little fiercely:
“What are you looking at me for?”
“You’re angry?”
Ling Yu arched his brow, the bewitching light in his eyes shimmering dangerously.
Tang Wan gave a snort and said bluntly:
“Someone tried to steal you. I’m not happy about it!”
