It was only a request for a charcoal pencil.
Naturally, the Prefect granted Ling Yue’s request.
After receiving it, Ling Yue knelt down and began drawing directly on the floor.
Tang Wan was an exceptionally talented artist.
The thing she drew most often was architectural blueprints.
Ling Yue had been learning from her all along and had already begun drawing designs on her own.
The interior decoration of the gambling stone workshop, for example, had been designed by her.
In only a few moments, a detailed map of a courtyard appeared on the ground.
Old Madam Liu, Wang Po, and the others looked down at it, their eyelids twitching.
Wasn’t that…
…the exact layout of the residence’s inner courtyard?
Even the covered corridor, rock garden, trees, and flowers had been reproduced perfectly.
With a faint smile, Ling Yue glanced at the stunned Wang Po and the others.
“Madam Wang, everyone… this is the crime scene, isn’t it?”
“Of course, you’re welcome to deny it.”
“The residence is still there—it isn’t going anywhere.”
“His Excellency can send someone to verify it at any time.”
Wang Po and the others fell silent.
You’ve already said that… how dare we lie now?
“Y-Yes.”
“That’s the place where it happened.”
“It’s drawn exactly like the courtyard.”
“Good.”
Ling Yue responded casually before turning to Old Madam Liu.
“May I ask, Old Madam Liu… where exactly were you standing when you and I argued?”
“Th-That…”
“Don’t hesitate.”
“I’ve done my best to recreate the crime scene.”
“The longer you hesitate, the more suspicious you appear.”
“It’ll only make people think that you were the one who killed your husband.”
Ling Yue’s voice was as cold as a demon’s whisper.
Old Madam Liu shuddered violently.
Her mind was in complete chaos.
Unable to think any longer, she pointed toward the spot beneath the window where Ling Yue had originally been standing.
“There!”
“You were standing there!”
“Very well.”
Ling Yue marked the location with a circle.
She then drew another circle where Old Man Ling had died before turning to Wang Po and the others.
“And this is where my grandfather died.”
“Correct?”
None of them had any idea what she was trying to do.
They hurriedly nodded.
“Yes.”
“That’s where your grandfather died.”
Ling Yue smiled mysteriously.
She then drew yet another circle near the doorway and looked back at Old Madam Liu.
“Old Madam Liu.”
“Come take a look.”
“Were you standing here at the time?”
Without giving it any thought, Old Madam Liu nodded immediately.
“Yes.”
“That’s exactly where I was standing.”
“Really?”
“Heh…”
“Hehehe…”
Ling Yue suddenly let out a soft laugh.
Gu Hengcang frowned.
“This is a courtroom.”
“Such noisy behavior is inappropriate.”
The Prefect also asked,
“Miss Ling, why are you laughing?”
Ling Yue pointed toward the two circles she had drawn.
“Please look carefully, Your Excellency.”
“I was standing here…”
“…while my grandfather died over there.”
“At this distance…”
“Forget a weak young woman like me.”
“Even many grown men wouldn’t have the strength to shove someone that far.”
“…”
For a moment…
Both the Prefect and Gu Hengcang were at a loss for words.
Meanwhile, Wang Po, Old Madam Liu, and the others stood frozen in shock.
Th-That’s…
That’s true!
It was such a long distance!
Old Man Ling might not have been especially tall or strong…
…but he was still much bigger than Ling Yue.
Looking at Ling Yue’s slender frame…
Where could she possibly have found the strength to push a grown man that far?
Wang Po looked utterly bewildered.
“Th-Then…”
“Then how did that happen?”
Ling Yue smiled coldly.
“That’s something you should answer.”
“Weren’t you all eyewitnesses?”
“Why are you asking me instead?”
There wasn’t the slightest trace of warmth in her smile.
The way she looked at Wang Po was as though she were staring at a dead person.
She had endured enough.
Kind people were always the ones who got bullied.
She was tired of it.
She would continue to be kind…
…to those who deserved kindness.
But these people…
They didn’t deserve it.
Seeing the icy look in Ling Yue’s eyes, Wang Po involuntarily shivered.
The Prefect slammed the sounding block down.
“Wang Po!”
“Speak the truth at once!”
“Did you actually witness Miss Ling killing Old Man Ling…”
“…or did you not?”
