When Ye Yi returned to the Mo Pavilion, Yuanyuan listened to his report with a deeply furrowed brow.
“You’re saying… Ling Yu is searching for Wanniang too?”
“Yes,” Ye Yi replied respectfully with lowered eyes. “Not only the male master, but the Black Scale Cavalry is searching as well. I’ve already investigated. At first, everything between the male master and the Master was fine. But after the Master met the Feng Kingdom’s Imperial Preceptor, she ran out of the palace and disappeared.”
“So the problem lies with that so-called Imperial Preceptor?” A cold gleam flashed across Yuanyuan’s eyes.
After hesitating for a moment, Ye Yi said, “Sister Yuan, if you want to know what happened, you should ask the Master directly. She’s an honest and straightforward person. She treats you like a real sister and wouldn’t hide anything from you.”
“Really?” Yuanyuan asked uncertainly.
Just then, movement came from the bed.
Yuanyuan immediately pushed aside all her wandering thoughts and hurried to the bedside. Seeing Tang Wan sitting up, she exclaimed in delight,
“Sister Wan, you’re awake!”
“Yuanyuan?”
Tang Wan rubbed her aching head and looked around in confusion.
“Where am I?”
“You’re at the Mo Pavilion. I had planned to tell you about this place after everything had settled down, but when I was returning to Qingyuan Elegant Residence, I found you unconscious by the roadside…”
As she spoke, Yuanyuan clearly saw a trace of loneliness and sorrow pass through Tang Wan’s eyes.
She immediately fell silent.
When she spoke again, her voice had become much gentler.
“Sister Wan, we’re like sisters. If anything is troubling you, you can tell me. If it’s something I can solve, I’ll help you. And if I can’t, I’m still willing to listen.”
“I’m fine.”
Tang Wan pressed her lips tightly together after speaking, clearly unwilling to discuss it further.
Yuanyuan smiled softly and sat beside the bed, her eyes full of concern.
“When something’s weighing on your mind, you should talk about it. If you keep bottling it up, sooner or later it’ll cause problems. Or… do you not think of me as your younger sister? Is that why you don’t want to tell me?”
“It’s not that. It’s just… this whole thing is so unbelievable. You wouldn’t believe me…”
There was nothing Tang Wan wanted to hide from Yuanyuan.
Since Yuanyuan kept asking, Tang Wan finally told her everything Ling Shang had said.
Of course, she left out everything about the modern world and Ling Yu’s rebirth, saying only that part of her soul had once been extracted.
After listening, Yuanyuan frowned thoughtfully before saying,
“Now that you mention it, I remember reading an unofficial history of the Kingdom of Women. The immortals mentioned there were probably the Spirit Clan.”
Tang Wan blinked in surprise.
“You actually believe something like this?”
Yuanyuan smiled.
“The world is vast and full of wonders. Why wouldn’t I believe it? Besides, I think that Imperial Preceptor was acting for your own good.”
Tang Wan looked puzzled.
“What makes you say that?”
Yuanyuan answered seriously,
“Think about it, Sister. If the clan chief—your biological father—really looked down on mortals so much, would he have allowed you to be with Brother Yu at all? He’s incredibly powerful. If he can even separate someone’s soul, what can’t he do? If he flies into a rage, have you thought about the consequences? He might do something even more outrageous… or perhaps…”
Her expression grew solemn.
“He might eliminate the source of the problem altogether.”
Tang Wan’s heart skipped a beat.
“You mean… he would kill my handsome husband?”
Yuanyuan nodded.
“Very likely.”
Tang Wan’s heart instantly turned cold, and panic flashed through her eyes.
But when she remembered what Ling Yu had done in the past…
She found herself conflicted once again.
Yuanyuan smiled knowingly.
“So, Sister… are you truly dissatisfied with what the Spirit Clan did? Or are you actually upset because Brother Yu treated the former you so cruelly?”
