Huangfu Ronglan smiled shyly.
“Your daughter isn’t suffering. I’m just… a little hungry.”
“It’s here, it’s here!”
Huangfu Rong’an, who had already entered the room earlier, immediately brightened at those words. Carrying a bowl of porridge, she hurried over and put on what she believed to be her kindest smile.
“Big Sister, I’ve already prepared some plain porridge for you. Have a little to fill your stomach first. If it isn’t enough, I’ll have the servants make more. Or, if there’s anything else you want to eat, just tell me. The cooks in our residence can make anything!”
“Thank you…”
When Huangfu Ronglan saw Huangfu Rong’an, fear flickered across her face.
Clearly, she remembered how Rong’an had mocked and beaten her in the past.
But Father was here now.
Surely Huangfu Rong’an wouldn’t bully her in front of him?
Thinking this, Huangfu Ronglan reached out to take the bowl.
“Big Sister, just lie down. I’ll feed you.”
Since she was putting on an act, she might as well go all the way.
Ronglan was so weak—how could she let her drink the porridge by herself?
She wanted to personally poison this wretch to death. Only then could she soothe the hatred in her heart.
Attentively, Huangfu Rong’an scooped up a spoonful of porridge and blew on it before bringing it to Huangfu Ronglan’s lips.
As Ronglan opened her mouth, the malice in Rong’an’s eyes was almost impossible to conceal.
At that critical moment, Tang Wan suddenly shot forward and grabbed Huangfu Rong’an’s wrist.
Huangfu Rong’an froze.
When she came back to her senses, she flew into a rage.
“Wengnai! What are you doing?”
Tang Wan’s expression remained cold.
“Princess Rong’an, when feeding a patient, how can you simply blow on the food once and then put it directly into their mouth without testing the temperature?”
Huangfu Rong’an gritted her teeth.
“What are you implying?”
Tang Wan replied,
“What I mean is that you should taste it yourself first. Only if it isn’t too hot should you feed it to the Young Lady.”
“What did you say?”
Huangfu Rong’an exploded like a dog whose tail had been stepped on.
“This porridge is for Big Sister! How can I eat it?”
“I’m not asking you to eat it,” Tang Wan said, narrowing her eyes dangerously.
“I’m simply asking you to test the temperature. Isn’t that how people usually feed patients? Why are you so agitated, Princess Rong’an?”
“You… I…”
Her carefully laid plan had fallen apart.
Huangfu Rong’an was furious, but Tang Wan’s questioning was so sharp that she couldn’t come up with a response.
Guilt filled her eyes.
Even the most foolish person could see that something was wrong.
Huangfu Yi frowned.
“Rong’an, what’s the matter with you?”
Huangfu Rong’an completely panicked.
“Father, I… I…”
“Because she put arsenic in the porridge,” Tang Wan said flatly.
What?
Everyone was stunned.
They all stared at Huangfu Rong’an in disbelief.
Huangfu Rong’an’s face turned deathly pale, and she immediately shrieked,
“You’re lying! You’re framing this Princess!”
“Then take a bite yourself,” Tang Wan sneered.
Still gripping Rong’an’s wrist, Tang Wan tightened her hold and forcefully guided the spoon toward Rong’an’s mouth.
Terrified, Huangfu Rong’an’s face lost all color.
As the spoon drew closer and closer, her eyes widened in horror.
Tang Wan had no intention of causing a death—at least not in front of Huangfu Yi.
At the last moment, she eased her strength slightly.
Seizing the opportunity, Huangfu Rong’an violently broke free from Tang Wan’s grasp.
The bowl of porridge crashed to the ground, scattering white rice gruel everywhere.
By sheer coincidence, a mouse in the corner, likely drawn by the aroma, scurried over and licked several mouthfuls of the spilled porridge nearby.
Then, under everyone’s horrified gaze, it began foaming at the mouth.
It collapsed onto the floor.
Dead beyond doubt.
Silence.
A deathly silence.
Cold sweat poured down Huangfu Rong’an’s face as she desperately searched for an explanation.
But Huangfu Yi had already flown into a furious rage.
He let out a thunderous roar.
“Huangfu Rong’an!”
