The butcher glared at her strangely, saying nothing.
Tang Wan didn’t react immediately. “If you don’t want it, can I have it?”
“You crazy girl! Are you out of your mind? Even pig offal?!”
The butcher suddenly roared, his face full of disappointment and anger. “Didn’t I tell you back then not to marry that weakling? You didn’t listen. And now look at you—don’t even have enough to eat, and you’re eyeing pig offal!”
Tang Wan stared at the burly man with a face full of flesh for a few seconds before realizing—
This guy… seemed to be this body’s father!
Emmm…
This was… a bit awkward.
Tang Hongba saw his daughter looking dumbfounded and felt even worse. He cut off two pounds of pork and shoved it into her hands, his tone rougher: “What are you standing there for? Take it and scram. You’ve only been married a few days and you’ve already lost weight!”
Tang Wan paused for a few seconds, took the pork… and continued to eye the pig offal longingly.
“What’re you looking at? Not gonna eat the meat? You want to eat crap instead?!”
Tang Hongba bellowed again.
“I don’t want it anymore! Don’t yell!”
Tang Wan quickly backed away, frightened.
Good heavens!
This cheap dad is so fierce!
Tang Hongba watched his daughter’s round figure—like a rolling ball—get farther and farther away, shaking his head helplessly.
She wasn’t very bright to begin with, and getting married just made her even dumber.
That damned brat Ling Yu, who knows how much grief he’s caused her.
No, once he has some time, he really ought to go check on his daughter, see if she’s being mistreated at her in-laws’.
Tang Hongba completely overlooked the big and heavy bags she was carrying—he only saw that she had lost weight!
Tang Wan felt exhausted.
She wasn’t thin—if anything, she would be thinner in the future.
And not because she wanted to be. It was the Zijie Space (介子空間) improving her body constitution!
With Zijie Space around, even if she were a bottomless pit, she wouldn’t gain weight!
Carrying a bunch of packages, Tang Wan hurried home. She originally planned to take an ox cart back, but after seeing the driver’s disdainful look and thinking of her own size, she gave up.
Anyway, it wasn’t far. She might as well consider it a weight-loss workout.
Meanwhile, Old Lady Liu had waited and waited, but Tang Wan still hadn’t brought any meat over, and she finally lost patience.
Egged on by Old Man Ling, she brought her eldest daughter-in-law, Qian Shi, and marched straight to Tang Wan’s home.
At the time, Jiang Shi was helping Ling Yue cure the leftover meat to dry it for storage.
That used up the very last of their salt.
Ling Yue had a bitter smile on her face—she didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
No salt, but meat—what a tragic story.
Jiang Shi lovingly stroked her daughter’s head and gently comforted her, “Don’t be discouraged. I still have some money with me. I’ll go buy salt later—it’s fine.”
Ling Yue opened her mouth, instinctively wanting to complain about Tang Wan.
Tang Wan had made more than a tael of silver selling meat yesterday—clearly, she had money, but didn’t give any to the family.
But she quickly froze, her face conflicted.
Was that thought wrong?
Tang Wan’s money was her own. Why should she have to give it to them?
Yesterday, she didn’t yell at them even once and even let them eat meat. That was already very generous.
She didn’t owe them anything. She even paid to marry into the family.
Now she’s earned some money, and she still had to give it to them?
What kind of logic was that?
Ling Yue began to self-reflect.
At that moment, the front gate was kicked open.
Old Lady Liu swaggered in with Qian Shi.
When Jiang Shi saw them, her heart tightened. She calmly stepped in front of the children and forced a smile at Old Lady Liu: “Mother, what brings you here?”
“You think I want to come? You jinx! Seeing you just brings bad luck!”
Old Lady Liu coldly snorted and glanced at the meat hanging in the yard, then signaled Qian Shi with her eyes.
Qian Shi nodded, cleared her throat, and launched her attack:
“You wicked woman! So much meat and you don’t even think to show some filial respect to Mother? What kind of daughter-in-law are you?”
As she spoke, Qian Shi stepped forward to grab the meat.
“Don’t—sister-in-law, that meat belongs to Wan Niang!” Jiang Shi was nearly crying as she rushed to stop her, but Qian Shi shoved her aside and sent her crashing to the ground.
With one hand holding the meat, and the other pointing at Jiang Shi, Qian Shi’s normally honest face was now sharp and mean:
“You still dare talk? Everyone knows that fat… ahem, Wan Niang is the most filial one!
She didn’t bring meat this time? Clearly because you, you unlucky thing, told her not to!”
“I didn’t, sister-in-law…”
“If I say you did, then you did!”
After scolding Jiang Shi, Qian Shi turned and saw Ling Yue glaring at her like a little wolf cub.
She was instantly enraged and stormed over to kick her:
“You brat! What are you looking at me for?
I’m your elder, your aunt! Is this how that slut of a mother raised you?!”
Ling Yue cried out in pain from the kick.
But the next moment, Jiang Shi threw herself over her daughter to block the blows, shielding her with her own body.
“Mother, move!” Ling Yue struggled, but Jiang Shi held her tightly, pleading with Qian Shi: “Sister-in-law, please stop, you’ll kill someone!”
Qian Shi spat but hadn’t yet responded—
When suddenly, a burlap sack came flying from outside and smashed right into her face.
With a scream, Qian Shi fell to the ground. Blood gushed from her nose, and one of her front teeth flew out.
Everyone looked up—
A round figure carrying several large bags was walking toward them, backlit by the sun.
Who else could it be but Tang Wan?
Except now, Tang Wan exuded a chilling, gloomy aura. Anyone could tell—she was furious.
Old Lady Liu froze, pointing at her with a trembling finger: “You… you dare hit someone? That’s your aunt!”
Tang Wan glanced at her coldly, dropped her bags, then walked straight up to Qian Shi, raised her pudgy leg, and kicked her again.
As Qian Shi howled in pain, Tang Wan stared directly at Old Lady Liu.
Her eyes said it all—
“Yeah, I hit her. So what?”
Old Lady Liu was fuming and about to say something, but before she could open her mouth, Tang Wan began kicking Qian Shi over and over again.
Qian Shi screamed, blood streaming from her nose and mouth. Even Old Lady Liu began trembling in fear.
With one final kick—Tang Wan used twenty percent of her strength and sent Qian Shi flying out of the courtyard.
She didn’t scream anymore—her eyes rolled back and she fainted.
Then Tang Wan turned toward Old Lady Liu, her expression sharp and murderous.
Old Lady Liu nearly wet herself. She grabbed the half-dead Qian Shi and ran for her life.
When she got far enough, she turned and screamed back:
“You wretched sow! Just you wait! I’ll come back for you later!”
Tang Wan responded by picking up a sickle from the ground, weighing it in her hand—and hurling it at her.
The sickle soared through the air in an arc, aiming straight for Old Lady Liu’s head.
Old Lady Liu screamed and leapt to the side, abandoning Qian Shi entirely.
The sickle landed with a thud, embedding itself into the ground right next to Qian Shi’s face, sunk in three inches deep.
Old Lady Liu turned deathly pale, let out a shriek, and bolted.
She’s insane!
That fat pig’s gone mad!
If she hadn’t dodged just now, her skull would’ve been split open!
“Aaahhh! Mother of mercy! I nearly died!”
