Ling Yue felt like she’d stepped in dog crap.
She had merely been wandering around the streets when she noticed a large shop with a “For Sale” sign hanging outside, so she went in to make some inquiries.
After all, she genuinely needed a storefront right now.
The shopkeeper was a man in his forties surnamed Wu. He was plump, fair-skinned, and had a kind, amiable appearance.
Nor did he look down on her because of her young age. Instead, he invited her to a nearby teahouse to discuss things in detail.
Seeing that the shopkeeper didn’t seem like a bad person, Ling Yue let down her guard and followed him there.
But who would have thought that the moment they entered the private room, Shopkeeper Wu’s gaze would become lecherous?
Every sentence he spoke carried hidden implications.
Though Ling Yue was young, she wasn’t some naïve, innocent girl who understood nothing.
Sensing that something was wrong, she immediately tried to leave.
To her surprise, Shopkeeper Wu blocked her path and even started getting handsy with her.
Furious, Ling Yue got into an argument with him and forcibly pushed her way out of the private room, intending to leave.
Perhaps because she had embarrassed him so thoroughly, Shopkeeper Wu became angry and humiliated. He immediately turned the tables and accused her of seducing him.
What the hell…?
Pointing at herself in disbelief, Ling Yue stared at him.
“Shopkeeper Wu, don’t go too far. Why would I seduce someone older than my father? Did a donkey kick you in the head?”
Taking advantage of the growing crowd around them—and secretly resentful that the girl had rejected him—Shopkeeper Wu viciously retorted:
“It was you who seduced me! You kept striking alluring poses and dropping hints with your words. I brought you to this teahouse, and then you tried to use that against me to blackmail me. Let me tell you, I, Wu, am not so easily intimidated. I believe heaven sees all. Right and wrong are clear in the eyes of Heaven!”
The surrounding spectators immediately found his words plausible.
The way they looked at Ling Yue began to change.
Ling Yue: “…”
Are you freaking dreaming?
In this era, a young woman’s reputation was incredibly important.
Even though Ling Yue herself had never personally suffered through such things, she knew enough to understand that she couldn’t cause trouble for her elder brother and sister-in-law.
Even if she didn’t care about her own reputation, what about her brother?
Her brother had just become a Minister. If people learned that the minister’s sister was supposedly some shameless woman who would sleep with anyone, wouldn’t everyone laugh at him?
Suppressing her anger with great effort, Ling Yue tried to remain calm.
“You claim I seduced you. Do you have any evidence? You’re the one who brought me to this teahouse, and you’re the one who rented the private room. If anyone had improper intentions, it was you toward me, not the other way around. I’m a young girl in the prime of youth—why would I be interested in an old man like you? Did you just wake up and forget to clear your head?”
Shopkeeper Wu angrily replied:
“Wasn’t it you who said you wanted to discuss business with me? Otherwise, why would I have brought you here? I treated you with all due respect, yet who could have guessed that a girl so young would turn out so badly, trying to seduce me!”
Ling Yue: “…”
Bullshit!
Complete and utter bullshit!
She was still just a young girl and had never encountered someone this shameless before.
Her face flushed bright red with rage.
She wanted to argue back, but she was so angry she could barely find the words.
All she could do was repeatedly insist:
“Shopkeeper Wu, I came here to discuss business with you! You’re the one who was touching me inappropriately! Can you have even a little shame?”
But…
No one believed her.
The crowd watching the spectacle began pointing fingers at her.
“Obviously this girl wanted to take a shortcut and tried to seduce Shopkeeper Wu. Isn’t that obvious?”
“Exactly. Talking business? A girl this young wouldn’t know the first thing about business. If you ask me, she’s just a shameless girl who doesn’t know proper conduct.”
“Young lady, you’re the one who came to the teahouse with Shopkeeper Wu. He didn’t force you, did he? What respectable girl goes around with an unrelated man she barely knows? In my opinion, you’re clearly not the decent type.”
