Dealing with a defenseless woman was far too easy.
Tang Wan casually grabbed a sack and followed closely behind Qiuwen.
After confirming that no one was around, she dashed forward like lightning, threw the sack over Qiuwen’s head, and struck the back of her neck with her elbow—knocking her unconscious on the spot.
Tang Wan caught her, glanced around like a thief, then hoisted her onto her shoulder and leapt over the wall to leave.
By the time a maid found the red agate bracelet, Tang Wan had already carried Qiuwen back home.
Gu Yanshuang was either too careless—or simply never imagined that someone would dare abduct her servant in broad daylight, right under everyone’s noses.
When Qiuwen didn’t return, she assumed the woman was still searching elsewhere.
So she only left a young maid at the temple entrance to wait, while she herself returned home in grand procession with her daughter and a large group of servants.
…
Jiang Zhi paced anxiously at home, deeply worried about Tang Wan.
Just as she was about to send Su Xi to look for her, Tang Wan returned—carrying someone on her shoulder.
Seeing the person, Jiang’s eyelids twitched. “Wan’er, this is…?”
“It’s Qiuwen!” Tang Wan said as she put the woman down and pulled off the sack for Jiang to see. “Mother, did I catch the right one?”
Jiang looked closely and quickly nodded. “Yes, that’s her. I wouldn’t mistake her.”
“Good!” Tang Wan grabbed Qiuwen like she was carrying a chicken. “I’ll take her to the cellar. Mother, wait here—soon we’ll know whether Huangfu Ronglan is really my elder sister.”
With that, she left without waiting for a response.
Watching her carry a person like a dead dog, Jiang’s eye twitched again. She quickly called out to Su Xi, “Follow her and keep an eye on things. Don’t let Wan’er cause a death.”
“…How could that happen?” Su Xi thought to herself. Tang Wan wasn’t foolish.
Not to mention—how could she cause trouble for Ling Yu?
After a brief internal complaint, Su Xi nodded and hurried after Tang Wan.
Tang Wan glanced at her but didn’t stop her.
Once they reached the cellar, Tang Wan tossed a rope to Su Xi. “Tie her up.”
“Yes!” Su Xi took the rope and efficiently bound Qiuwen—using the kind of technique farmers use to tie pigs.
Once that was done, Tang Wan finally sat down to catch her breath and said, “Wake her up.”
“Yes!” Su Xi silently pitied Qiuwen, but didn’t hesitate in her actions.
She looked around, grabbed a bucket, and—without caring how long the filthy water had been sitting there—splashed it straight onto Qiuwen’s face.
The smell was…
Overwhelming.
Qiuwen might be a servant, but she was a high-ranking one—she had never experienced anything this foul. She woke almost instantly.
The stench hit her nose, making her gag uncontrollably.
Su Xi took a step back in disgust and stood behind Tang Wan.
Tang Wan didn’t speak right away, giving Qiuwen time to process.
After all, the woman wasn’t going anywhere.
After a moment, Qiuwen finally regained her senses.
A flicker of confusion passed through her eyes as she looked around, quickly realizing she was tied up.
She struggled briefly, then her gaze landed on Tang Wan. Fear flashed in her eyes before she spoke, “Who are you? Why have you captured me?”
Tang Wan crossed her legs, resting her chin on one hand, and looked at her calmly. “Who I am isn’t important. What matters is—do you want to live or die?”
“You insolent wretch!” Qiuwen snapped angrily, immediately invoking her status. “I am the chief nanny of the Second Prince’s consort. If you dare treat me like this, the consort will never let you off!”
