After leaving the estate, Tang Wan headed back, strolling around here and there along the way. She even bought a little sugar figurine shaped like a lucky doll.
Hui Che would sometimes perch on her shoulder, sometimes circle above her head.
When she returned home, Ye Si had already delivered the white pigeon, and little Ling Chen was feeding it in front of the cage.
Meanwhile, Yin Biao stared straight at the white pigeon in the cage, eyes shining, tongue hanging out, drooling nonstop.
When Ling Chen saw Tang Wan, he immediately put on a teary, innocent, and aggrieved expression. He didn’t go over to her, clearly still sulking.
Tang Wan walked up to him and handed him the sugar figurine. “Still angry?”
Ling Chen huffed and turned his head away. “It was clearly Big Brother’s fault, but Sister-in-law scolded me instead!”
“I know.”
“I knew you’d take Big Broth—”
Halfway through speaking, Ling Chen suddenly reacted and glared at Tang Wan angrily. “Sister-in-law, you said you know—so you know Big Brother bullied me, right? Then why did you still help him scold me?”
Tang Wan thought for a moment, then asked, “Let me give you an example. If Mother bullied you, would you let Yin Biao bite her?”
Ling Chen froze at the question and instinctively shook his head. “Of course not!”
“Well, there you have it.” Tang Wan rubbed his little head and said seriously, “If your big brother bullies you, you can ignore him or stop dealing with him, but you must not hurt him. He’s your own brother—hurting him would be harming your own kin, and that’s very serious. Look at your brother—even when he’s angry with you, has he ever done anything to hurt you? Has he ever made you bleed or injured you?”
Ling Chen lowered his head, feeling ashamed. “Sister-in-law, I’m sorry. I was wrong.”
Tang Wan smiled faintly and stuffed the sugar figurine into his hand. “Knowing your mistake means you should correct it. If I see something like this again, I’ll still be angry.”
“Okay!” Ling Chen nodded obediently.
At that moment, Hui Che landed on Tang Wan’s shoulder, tilting its little head as it looked at Ling Chen.
“Oh? There’s a pigeon!” Ling Chen’s anger came and went quickly. He pointed at Hui Che and said, “Sister-in-law, it seems really close to you.”
“It’s called Hui Che,” Tang Wan said, extending her finger.
Hui Che obediently flew onto her hand and flapped its wings toward Ling Chen. “Coo coo coo…” (Hello, little two-legged cub. My name is Hui Che, nice to meet you.)
“It’s so smart!” Ling Chen leaned closer, flashing a big smile. “Hello, my name is Ling Chen. Can I shake your wing?”
“Coo~” (Sure, but this is my first time shaking wings with a human, so be gentle!)
Hui Che stretched out its wing.
Ling Chen grew even more excited and carefully reached out his hand.
Just then, Yin Biao let out a howl and pounced over, opening its mouth to bite Hui Che.
Startled, Hui Che flapped its wings and flew high up, dodging the attack.
“Woof woof woof!” Yin Biao jumped up, still trying to bite Hui Che.
Hui Che cooed frantically. (Where did this stupid dog come from? If you dare bite me, I’ll peck you to death, believe it or not!)
Tang Wan frowned and grabbed Yin Biao by the tail.
Yin Biao turned its head and whimpered pitifully at her, like a wronged lover.
(Humans really are fickle. You already have me, yet you brought back a bird. How could you do this to me?)
Tang Wan rubbed her forehead and warned it, “Hui Che is a companion. No biting. If you do, I’ll hit you!”
“Awuu~” (Fine, no biting. Why are you being so fierce!)
Yin Biao covered its head, looking aggrieved.
Hui Che cooed and flew down, landing on top of Yin Biao’s head. “Coo~” (Not bad. This place will be my nest from now on!)
