In the future, if anything happens with the Jiang family, they can send her a message by carrier pigeon.
As for Ye Liu… he was already stunned, completely missing what Tang Wan said, utterly immersed in shock.
What had he just seen?
A grand feast of communication between humans and animals?
So… could Sister Wan understand what animals were saying?
And that pigeon—had it become a spirit?
“Ye Si?” Seeing no response, Tang Wan called him again.
Ye Si suddenly snapped back to his senses and mechanically lifted his hand to close his dropped jaw. “Sister Wan, can you understand what the pigeon is saying?”
Tang Wan denied it with a straight face, “No, I can’t!”
“But just now you and it…”
“You imagined it!”
Tang Wan looked completely serious—so serious it couldn’t be more convincing.
Ye Si: Heh heh…
Yeah right, as if I’d believe that!
Since Tang Wan didn’t want to talk about it, Ye Si didn’t ask further and picked out another white pigeon for her.
This one wasn’t as clever as the gray one. No matter what Tang Wan said, it couldn’t understand. It flapped wildly inside the cage, scattering droppings and feathers everywhere, shrieking “Murder! Murdering birds!”
In the end, it was the gray pigeon that cooed a few times to it before it finally calmed down.
Tang Wan: …
Well, at least it knows it’s a bird!
And besides, she has a translator—nothing to worry about!
Before leaving, Tang Wan instructed Ye Si to send two trained pigeons to Qingyuan Yashe once they were ready, then she left the small courtyard.
Instead of going home, she made another trip to Qingyuan Yashe.
But when she arrived, she didn’t see Aunt Hong.
Now, the one in charge of Qingyuan Yashe was Yunyan.
Yunyan told Tang Wan that Aunt Hong had already set off for the capital ten days ago.
Tang Wan frowned. “Did she go alone?”
“Of course not,” Yunyan smiled lightly. “She went with a passing merchant caravan and brought along three male attendants. Sister Wan, there’s no need to worry.”
How could Tang Wan not worry? “Why didn’t she take Ye Si and the others with her?”
“Aunt Hong said she was afraid you might need Ye Si and the others, so she left them behind,” Yunyan replied, then added with a smile, “Sister Wan, don’t worry. Ye Yi had taught those three attendants some martial arts before, and they’re quite quick-witted. Aunt Hong will be fine.”
Hopefully she would be fine—but accidents can always happen.
Moreover, Tang Wan felt that the mother and daughter rushing to the capital like this was a bit unusual.
With that thought, she asked about it.
A flicker passed through Yunyan’s eyes, but she calmly replied, “How could that be? Aunt Hong’s wish is to open Qingyuan Yashe all across the empire. She’s just in a hurry, that’s all!”
Tang Wan looked doubtful.
Really?
But this was too rushed…
It felt like… something in the capital was waiting for them.
“Sister Wan, I’ve already sorted out this month’s account books. I’ll go get them for you,” Yunyan said as she turned to head upstairs.
Tang Wan snapped out of her thoughts and quickly stopped her. “No need. I won’t look at the account books—you can handle them yourselves.”
“Alright then,” Yunyan smiled slightly. “It’s almost mealtime. Sister Wan, would you like to eat before you go?”
“No, I still need to go to the estate. Yue’er hasn’t returned yet, so I have to handle these matters myself.”
She couldn’t possibly trouble the Jiang family.
Her mother had suffered her whole life—now she only needed to enjoy happiness.
Yunyan escorted her to the door and watched her leave, only then letting out a quiet sigh of relief.
Sometimes, she truly envied Tang Wan—so many people cared about her.
Tang Wan went to the estate.
Li Wu and Aunt Yang were especially happy to see her. Aunt Yang immediately went to cook personally and insisted on keeping her for a meal.
Tang Wan couldn’t refuse, so she agreed.
And when you’re with Aunt Yang, there’s one “seasoning” you can never be without—
Gossip.
