Ling Yue really wanted to tell Tang Hongba right then and there:
“My sister-in-law is amazing! She knows everything and is way more capable than your daughter!”
With little Ling Yue stepping up, Tang Wan finally managed to get the pig offal.
But the smell was absolutely awful.
Ling Yue’s little face scrunched up like a steamed bun.
“Big Sis, is this really edible?”
“Mhm. Want me to make it for you when we get back? …Actually, never mind.”
Thinking of how she once nearly blew up the kitchen, Tang Wan changed her tune:
“You make it.”
Ling Yue obviously remembered too and couldn’t help but want to laugh.
She’d never met anyone like her sister-in-law before—just cooking once had turned the kitchen into a disaster zone.
Truly unheard of!
“If I learn how to make this pig offal dish, can I open a shop?”
That was what Ling Yue cared about the most.
She wanted to earn money, money, and more money!
Tang Wan nodded. “Yes.”
Seeing her nod, Ling Yue beamed like a flower in full bloom, her heart brimming with hope for the future.
One dared to dream, the other dared to act.
And sure enough, not long after, they really did open that shop together.
Not only that—Tang Wan taught her even more in the days that followed, eventually raising her little sister-in-law into the richest woman in the entire empire…
But that’s a story for another time.
Since Tang Wan wasn’t feeling well, Ling Yue showed some generosity for once and pulled her sister-in-law onto the ox cart for the ride home.
When they arrived, the house was lively.
Tang Wan’s eldest brother, Tang Tiansheng, and second brother, Tang Tianyang, had both come to visit. Not only that—they brought meat and even Tang Wan’s favorite sesame candies.
Madam Jiang was busy hosting them. Seeing Tang Wan come home, she breathed a sigh of relief.
“Good, you’re back. They’ve been waiting for you a while.”
“Wan-niang!” Tang Tiansheng stood up, face full of smiles.
This was the first time Tang Wan had truly met her eldest brother.
He looked quite similar to the second brother—only taller, more refined and delicate in appearance.
Not like Tang Tianyang, who was sturdier and looked more like a burly man than a scholar.
Especially when the eldest brother smiled—his mouth would open wide, revealing a full set of white teeth.
He looked like someone with a very good bite.
“Big Brother, Second Brother, you’re here!”
“We came to check on you and your husband—and brought you some meat. Looks like you’ve lost weight.”
After Tang Tianyang said that, he noticed Madam Jiang looked a bit uncomfortable and quickly added,
“Auntie, we didn’t mean anything by it. I just… I just thought…”
“What he means,” Tang Tiansheng smoothly picked up the thread, “is that our little sister was spoiled since young, and we’re worried her fiery temper might cause trouble—not just make you mad, but upset herself too.”
Clearly, the eldest brother had the smoother tongue.
“Yes, yes! That’s what I meant. This girl used to cause such a ruckus at home, and when she did, it was always herself who suffered most. That’s why we worry. Auntie, please take care of our little sister from now on.”
Madam Jiang hadn’t been angry in the first place. Now that they said all this, she felt a little embarrassed:
“Wan-niang is very obedient—not at all like what you’re saying.”
Well… okay!
She was like that at first, but Wan-niang had clearly thought things through now.
The family had food again, her son’s leg could be treated—Madam Jiang was already very content.
“Wan-niang, talk with your brothers for a while. You two stay seated—we’ll eat together later.
Yue’er, come help me in the kitchen.”
Madam Jiang smiled warmly and waved Ling Yue into the stove room.
Tang Wan set down her basket, took out a bundle of meat buns, and handed them to the wide-eyed little Ling Chen before sitting down in front of her two older brothers.
“You two—what brings you here?”
Tang Tianyang rolled his eyes. “We were worried about you, obviously.”
“But now,” Tang Tiansheng added with a smile, “it seems our worry was unnecessary.”
