Aunt Yang said in disbelief, “Just like this? Only with water?”
“Yes,” Tang Wan nodded, then looked at Aunt Yang again. “I’ll have to trouble you to keep an eye on it and do exactly as I said.”
Aunt Yang nodded happily, and before she could speak, Ling Yue hurriedly said, “I want to watch too! Aunt Yang, let’s watch it together.”
Tang Wan frowned. “Aren’t you going home?”
Ling Yue waved her hand. “It’s fine. I’ll stay at the estate these few days, hehe… I want to witness a miracle!”
“That’s fine then.” Tang Wan stood up and let them handle it themselves.
She, on the other hand, had to go home—if she didn’t see her handsome husband for even a day, her heart would itch!
Well… actually, seeing him made it itch even more.
After teaching them the method for sprouting bean sprouts, Tang Wan rode Taxue back home.
When she arrived, she saw a luxurious carriage parked at the gate.
Tang Wan was puzzled—were there guests at home?
Leading Taxue inside, a little cannonball suddenly rushed toward her, scaring her so badly that she lifted her foot.
“Sister Wan, you’re back!”
A clear, crisp voice rang out. Tang Wan quickly put her foot down, and in the next moment someone threw themselves into her arms.
Tang Wan: …
This familiar formula again…
Su Wanting looked up at her with a beaming smile. “I’ve been waiting for you for so long, Sister Wan. You never come to see me—do you find Ting’er annoying?”
“No!” (Although I really do think that, would I tell you?) “You’re not annoying—you’re adorable!”
“Hehe…” Being praised, Su Wanting’s little face flushed red, and her smile became even brighter.
“Ting’er, that’s very rude. Hurry and let go of Wan-niang!” Su Yuan scolded sternly.
Only then did Tang Wan notice that not only Su Wanting was here—Su Yuan was here too, playing chess with Ling Yu in the pavilion.
Su Wanting made a face at her father but still let go of Tang Wan.
Su Yuan said with a helpless smile, “Sorry to trouble you. She insisted on coming with me—her mother couldn’t stop her at all.”
“It’s fine. Wanting is cute and well-behaved.” Tang Wan walked over. “Uncle, why have you come?”
“By His Majesty’s great grace, I’ve been appointed county magistrate of Xiangxi Town. I came specially to handle the handover with Young Master Yu.” At this point, Su Yuan sighed. “Wan-niang, you came back at just the right time—quick, help me persuade Young Master Yu. I want him to continue serving as clerk here, but he refuses!”
“…How could I possibly go against my handsome husband’s wishes just to satisfy you? What are you thinking!”
Tang Wan silently went to stand beside Ling Yu, looking very obedient. “I’ll listen to my husband.”
Su Yuan was stunned for a moment, then burst out laughing in irritation. “Ha… no wonder they say daughters side with their husbands—so the ancients really weren’t lying!”
Ling Yu smiled lightly. “Uncle is joking. I was only temporarily managing the county office; in the future I still intend to continue pursuing the imperial examinations. But since Uncle has urged me repeatedly, how about this: Uncle finds someone, and I’ll guide him for a few days. Once both Uncle and he are familiar with the office affairs, it won’t be too late for me to leave.”
Su Yuan nodded. “That’s good. I’ve never been an official before—going into the yamen like this really leaves me completely at a loss.”
Ling Yu said, “Uncle need not belittle yourself. The Su family has such a large business, and you manage it so well. Compared to that, yamen affairs aren’t nearly so complicated.”
“Let’s hope so,” Su Yuan said with a smile, placing another chess piece.
Tang Wan watched them play for a while, then was dragged away by Su Wanting to go play with Taxue.
After the two men finished a round of chess, Su Yuan finally left with Su Wanting.
Su Wanting still didn’t want to go and insisted that Tang Wan come to her house to play.
“Next time, I’ll bring Taxue to come play with you!”
