Pretty carefree, actually!
No one expected Tang Wan and Yuan’er to show up, and everyone was overjoyed, immediately pulling them in to join the fun.
Tang Wan stayed until midnight before leaving the small courtyard together with Yuan’er.
When she got home, Tang Wan once again climbed in through the back courtyard.
Just as she landed and turned around, she ran straight into what felt like a wall.
Clutching her sore nose, Tang Wan looked innocently at the man in front of her. “My beautiful husband, why are you here?”
“Passing by,” the Ling beauty said, giving her a brief glance before turning to leave.
That glance was extremely faint. Tang Wan froze for a moment, then hurried after him and asked cautiously, “Husband… are you angry again?”
The Ling beauty didn’t even look sideways. He sneered lightly. “How would I dare be angry with you? You’ve got plenty of things to do and plenty of secrets. To you, I’m just an outsider anyway—what does it matter whether I’m angry or not?”
“…” What’s with the passive-aggressive tone? Even a clay figurine has some temper. I’m good to you and now you’re spoiled by favor, huh?
“I do have secrets—but don’t you have secrets too?” Tang Wan frowned, her tone less than pleasant.
She didn’t want to lose her temper, but lately her beautiful husband had been getting angry far too often. Once or twice could be written off as flirtation; too many times, and anyone would get fed up.
Hearing this, the Ling beauty stopped, turned around, and looked at her calmly.
Tang Wan had been feeling quite righteous a moment ago.
But under his gaze, she suddenly felt guilty again. She rubbed her nose and said softly, “Someone told me that no matter how close two people are, they should still keep a certain distance and leave each other some freedom. That’s why I’ve never gotten angry over your secrets. So why do you get angry over mine?”
The Ling beauty looked at her for a while, then suddenly laughed, mockery filling his eyes. “Someone told you? Was it that person called the Doctor?”
Tang Wan: …
“Heh…” Seeing her stay silent, Ling Yu gave a soft laugh and turned to leave.
His shadow stretched long under the moonlight.
Tang Wan felt miserable and followed after him with her head down.
In the front courtyard, the family was still keeping the New Year’s vigil, sitting together chatting about something.
Seeing the couple come out, they exchanged looks but said nothing.
Madam Jiang pulled over a stool and beckoned Tang Wan to come sit.
But Tang Wan was completely distracted, her eyes constantly darting toward her beautiful husband.
Yet the Ling beauty didn’t spare her a single glance.
At that moment, little Ling Chen sidled over and whispered in Tang Wan’s ear, “You snuck out, and Big Brother’s been waiting in the back courtyard the whole time. He only just came out.”
“Uh…” Tang Wan choked a little before asking, “You all knew I ran out?”
Ling Chen looked at her like isn’t that obvious? “We all know you went to Qingyuan Elegant Residence. Mom knows too!”
Tang Wan: …
Ling Chen added, “Mom was worried about Aunt Hong too—you should’ve gone. But next time, you need to tell Big Brother first. I swear he was about to turn into a ‘wife-waiting stone’ just now!”
“Oh.” Tang Wan responded hesitantly. She felt like she was in the wrong… but exactly where she was wrong, she couldn’t quite figure out—
At the same time, far away, Yan Cheng led his brothers through mountains and rivers and finally reached the border, keeping watch at the foot of a mountain.
Second by second passed. The men under him were starting to lose patience, and someone immediately questioned, “Boss, is the master really reliable? Someone actually jumping off a cliff?”
“If he said there is, then there definitely is. Just keep waiting,” Yan Cheng replied flatly, though he himself was also a bit puzzled.
That man rolled his eyes and said irritably, “If you ask me, the master’s just eaten too much and has nothing better to do. Today’s New Year’s Eve—who’d be so stuffed they’d run all the way out here to jump—ow!”
Bang—
Before he could finish speaking, a person fell from the sky and smashed straight onto him.
