“It’s nothing.” Tang Wan looked at the girl again and again, and with the help of the original owner’s memories, finally matched her identity.
This girl was Qin Suyun, the daughter of the couple who ran the tofu stall next door.
In the memories, Qin Suyun was a gentle and reserved girl. Before the original owner married, they had a good relationship. She knew Qin Suyun liked Tang Tiansheng and had joked countless times about wanting her to become her sister-in-law.
But unexpectedly, in the end, Tang Tiansheng was snatched away by An-shi.
This was also the main reason the original owner never got along with An-shi. At first, it was to stand up for Qin Suyun; later, she genuinely disliked An-shi’s selfish, petty, and constantly snarky attitude as a sister-in-law.
Tang Wan glanced at her silent older brother nearby, her eyes turning sly. She pretended to sigh with regret: “Your face is ruined. It’ll scar.”
Qin Suyun froze. She trembled as she lifted her hand to cover her face, tears falling in big drops.
Hearing that, Tang Tiansheng quickly put down what he was doing and walked over. “Wan-niang, you’re saying Yun-niang’s face is ruined?”
“Mm.” Tang Wan said seriously. “I’ve been studying medicine with Doctor Li. Her face is ruined.”
Tang Tiansheng immediately felt a deep wave of guilt, his lips trembling, unable to figure out what to say.
“It’s okay…” Qin Suyun forced a smile, though the tears kept falling. “I… I’m fine. It’s just a bit of broken skin. It won’t be too noticeable after it heals. Brother Tiansheng, don’t worry about it.”
“That wretched An-shi went way too far,” Tang Tianyang said as he hurried over as well, looking at Qin Suyun with sympathy and cursing An-shi viciously.
Tang Hongba also walked over, frowning. “Yun-niang, don’t worry. This happened because our Tang family dragged you into it. When we go back, I’ll bring Tiansheng to your home to propose marriage.”
Qin Suyun froze, even forgetting to cry.
When she finally came back to her senses, she immediately looked at Tang Tiansheng. Seeing his brows tightly furrowed, she thought he was unwilling. She quickly said, “No… I–I’m fine. Uncle Tang, please don’t mind it.”
Tang Wan looked suspicious. “You don’t like my brother?”
“N-no!” Qin Suyun blushed and lowered her head, not daring to look at Tang Tiansheng at all. “I just can’t force Brother Tiansheng to marry me because of this. Brother Tiansheng doesn’t like me — he only sees me as a younger sister. I know that…”
“If he doesn’t marry me, I—I…”
“What’s that got to do with you? Come out with me!”
Tang Wan cut off Tang Tianyang just in time and dragged him outside.
Tang Hongba chuckled and left as well, leaving the space to the two young people.
Qin Suyun was extremely nervous. Her head sank lower and lower, and her earlobes were red enough to drip blood.
Tang Tiansheng found her both amusing and helpless.
“Yun-niang,” he called softly.
“Brother Tiansheng, it’s not your fault. You don’t need to feel guilty. I… it was just an accident, I’m fine. It’ll heal after a while. Don’t worry about it. I won’t marry you—no, I mean I really want to marry you—no, that’s not what I meant—” With no one else in the shop but the two of them, her nerves exploded, and she could barely speak coherently.
Tang Tiansheng laughed. “Do you want to take a breath before talking?”
“O-okay…” Qin Suyun’s face grew even redder. The handkerchief in her hands was being twisted out of shape as she grew more and more frustrated.
What had she even said just now? How could she say she didn’t want to marry Brother Tiansheng? He was the person she liked the most!
Seeing her like this, Tang Tiansheng couldn’t help laughing even more.
Such a tiny courage — she was just like a rabbit.
