Steward Li was utterly speechless!
He had never seen anyone haggle like this before.
Taking a deep breath, he forced a polite smile. “Then, please wait a moment, miss. I’ll send someone to ask my master. I should have an answer for you within an hour. Why don’t you stroll around the estate in the meantime?”
Ling Yue said cheerfully, “Alright, thank you, Steward Li!”
After he left, the three continued walking around the estate.
Looking at the vast stretch of land before her, Ling Yue’s heart swelled with excitement. She grabbed Tang Wan’s arm and chattered nonstop:
“We’ll have to get the orchard growing again! Didn’t you say Aunt Yang wanted to keep bees? We can put them here in the orchard. And we’ll plant flowers nearby so the honey tastes better.
“That house over there—I’m going to tear it down and build a bigger workshop for making dried beef in bulk.
“As for that bamboo grove, I’ll build you a bamboo house there, Sister-in-law, for your medicine workroom. And over there…”
In just a short while, Ling Yue had mapped out a complete plan for the entire estate.
Yu Ziqing was caught up in her enthusiasm, occasionally chiming in with suggestions.
Only Tang Wan remained quiet, glancing around from time to time.
At first she’d only been suspicious—but now she was sure.
Something about this place reeked of bad intent.
But why?
She’d seen Pan Quan before, but they’d never clashed. There shouldn’t have been any reason for this…
—
An hour later, Steward Li came back panting. “Miss Ling, my master said, if you really want it, you can have it for four hundred fifty taels. That’s the lowest price. If that’s still too expensive, I can’t help it.”
Ling Yue was overjoyed and immediately reached for her purse—but Tang Wan moved first.
“Sister-in-law?” Ling Yue blinked in confusion. “You’re—?”
“This estate is mine. I’ll pay for it.”
Tang Wan didn’t elaborate. She simply took out a stack of silver notes and handed them to Steward Li.
Delighted, he produced the deed.
Tang Wan read it carefully, then signed her name in the ownership column.
No one noticed the fleeting glint that flashed in Steward Li’s eyes.
Once the payment was done, Tang Wan officially became the owner of the estate.
Ling Yue felt a little sulky. She’d wanted to pay for it herself, to have her name on the deed—but since her sister-in-law wanted it, she wouldn’t argue.
It wasn’t about the money—she just wished Tang Wan had talked to her first.
An estate this big and this cheap was a once-in-a-lifetime find!
She sighed—what a pity.
Tang Wan caught her expression and said lightly, “What’s mine is yours. You’ll manage it—I won’t interfere.”
“I know, I know!” Ling Yue’s mood instantly lifted. After all, no one in the world might trick her—but her sister-in-law never would.
With Tang Wan, she could trust completely.
“But, Sister-in-law, since you said that, the renovations are my responsibility! You’re not allowed to pay for those.”
“Alright,” Tang Wan agreed easily, though inwardly she was already thinking that their business had grown so much that their profit-sharing system was too casual now. She’d have to find time to talk it over with Ling Yue properly.
Watching the sisters-in-law getting along so well, Yu Ziqing flicked his fan and teased flamboyantly, “Since this young master just helped you two pick up such a bargain, shouldn’t you treat me to a meal?”
“Of course! Absolutely!” Ling Yue said generously. “Come to my house—I’ll cook for you myself!”
“Wonderful!” Yu Ziqing grinned. He couldn’t deny that the girl’s cooking was divine.
If he didn’t know she was running multiple businesses, he’d have already tried to poach her as a chef for his Drunken Immortal Pavilion.
When the three returned home, Ling Yue immediately ran to tell Jiang Shi the good news.
