Tang Wan wasn’t being prejudiced—she was just too sensitive when it came to liking or disliking people.
That eldest sister-in-law of hers really gave her a terrible feeling!
It was rare for Tang Wan to say so many words in one go, but Tang Hongba thought about it and realized she was right.
His eldest daughter-in-law truly wasn’t honest. If she got her hands on the jerky, she’d probably jack up the price and stir up trouble.
“Fine, just leave a few packs with me. Don’t give her any!”
Damn, he never should have let his eldest son marry that woman.
He’d really misjudged her.
Before the marriage, she had seemed fine. But after living together, it turned out she was nothing like he’d thought.
Not only sharp-tongued and overbearing, but greedy for petty gains—acting like the Tang family was already her private property, even though the patriarch wasn’t dead yet.
She lazed about all day and kept secretly helping her gambler brother back home.
Sigh…
Just thinking about it was infuriating!
Tang Wan didn’t care whether her father was upset or not. She agreed, then left.
As long as people didn’t provoke her, she couldn’t be bothered to meddle!
When she returned to the pavilion, Gesang was already waiting, carrying a bucket of milk.
“Where’d you go? I waited so long I thought you didn’t want it anymore!”
“I do. Something just came up.”
The bucket held about six or seven jin of milk, and Gesang only charged her five copper coins.
That made Tang Wan feel a little guilty—she’d made him wait all that time for just five coins.
Gesang didn’t mind. He simply said, “Just remember to take care of my business in the future.”
“Deal!”
After parting ways, Tang Wan carried the milk home.
She had just reached the village entrance when she saw Li Dashan waiting there.
As soon as he spotted her, he hurried over. “Wan-niang, something’s happened! You’d better go back quick!”
“Huh?” Tang Wan blinked in confusion. “What happened?”
“I don’t know how it started,” Li Dashan said urgently, “but Old Man Ling went to your place. Somehow, he and that Zhang Tao ended up in Young Master Yu’s room—completely naked! Lady Liu caught them red-handed, and now she’s making a huge scene!”
Tang Wan stared blankly for a long moment before she finally processed what he’d said. In disbelief, she asked, “Old Man Ling—my pretty husband’s grandfather—with Zhang Tao?”
Li Dashan nodded. “That’s right!”
Tang Wan: …
An old man and a young girl? That kind of scandal?
They really play that twisted?
What on earth did I miss?
Ugh, what a pity I didn’t see it!
“Let’s go!” Tang Wan perked up instantly and headed home at a brisk pace.
Catching a whiff of the strong smell, Li Dashan curiously looked down at the bucket of milk. “Wan-niang, what’s this milk for?”
“Mm-hm.”
“You bought it? Why? It stinks!”
“You don’t understand!”
No point explaining to you anyway!
Not understanding, Li Dashan shut his mouth.
Tang Wan always had some new scheme brewing—probably another big idea!
The two hurried back to the Ling household.
By then, a big crowd of villagers had gathered at the entrance.
Inside, Lady Liu was throwing an endless tantrum, wailing and cursing, while slapping Zhang Tao repeatedly.
Old Man Ling sat off to the side, silently puffing on his dry tobacco, not saying a word.
Zhang Tao was crying her heart out—probably beaten badly. Suddenly, she sprang up and shoved Lady Liu.
Lady Liu fell to the ground with a thud and began bawling louder, pounding the earth with her hands as she screamed:
“You shameless little tramp! What, your lower half’s itching that bad? There are plenty of young lads in the village you could strip for, but you go and steal my man? Heavens above, strike this whoring slut dead with lightning!”
“Shut up! Shut your filthy mouth!” Zhang Tao was nearly hysterical, shrieking in fury. Her face twisted in despair as she lunged at Lady Liu, the two of them grappling together.
That was when Tang Wan arrived.
Before she even stepped inside, Widow Hong—who had sharp eyes—spotted her. She hurried over, pulled Tang Wan aside, and shot a glare at Li Dashan who had followed behind.
