On the day of the baby’s full-month celebration, a large crowd gathered again.
Song Yunfei forced herself to greet those unfamiliar faces.
Every time an occasion like this came around, it gave her a headache—because she had to re-recognize all those relatives all over again.
There were just too many people for her to remember.
“Oh? Cuihua is out of confinement?”
Song Yunfei had been smiling so much her cheeks were about to cramp while dealing with people. When she heard that familiar, annoying voice, she let out a long sigh of relief.
She apologized to the unknown aunt in front of her and walked toward Bai Yu.
Bai Yu was very busy these days—it was hard to even see him.
He wanted to go back to being a doctor, but the moment he brought it up, Bai Yun would “persuade” him patiently—with a belt full of “fatherly love.”
He was wearing a black traditional Chinese knit top with frog buttons, paired with wide-leg trousers, gold-rimmed glasses on his face, and holding an exquisite gift box.
Simple yet classy, with an artistic flair.
It had to be said—Bai Yu had great fashion sense, it just didn’t match his mouth.
Song Yunfei walked up to him and smiled. “Weren’t you on a business trip? Why are you back?”
“My niece’s full-month celebration—no matter how busy I am, I had to come.”
Bai Yu looked her up and down and clicked his tongue. “Cuihua, how come after your confinement, you’ve gained so much weight? Did Chu Jinhan feed you like a pig?”
Song Yunfei subconsciously looked down at herself and touched her belly.
This had been something she feared during pregnancy—gaining weight after giving birth. Hearing Bai Yu say that, she felt like the sky was collapsing.
She even ignored his last sentence.
“Really? I weighed myself this morning—nothing changed.”
Chu Jinhan spotted Bai Yu from afar and quickly walked over, stepping in front of Song Yunfei.
“Bai Yu, don’t make me throw you out on a day like this.”
Bai Yu laughed, hands in his pockets, looking at him leisurely. “What’s with you, brother-in-law? Still so rude to your elder brother-in-law. Cuihua, just divorce him.”
Seeing the two of them standing together, Song Yunfei felt another headache coming on.
Chu Jinhan didn’t bother arguing. He waved his hand, and two bodyguards walked over.
“Throw him out.”
The two bodyguards exchanged glances, then looked at Chu Jinhan.
Confirming he wasn’t joking, they braced themselves and stepped forward to carry Bai Yu out.
“Wait.” Bai Yu raised his hand to stop them.
The bodyguards obediently froze on the spot, hoping he would say something to salvage the situation.
Everyone knew that although these two didn’t get along, they were still relatives—the relationship was… complicated.
Chu Jinhan also put his hands in his pockets, waiting to see what trick he would pull.
Bai Yu then took out a palm-sized speaker with a hook from his pocket.
He hung the speaker on his chest and took out a lollipop-sized microphone.
His finger rested on the power button, but he didn’t turn it on yet. Instead, he said to Chu Jinhan, “Brother-in-law, I told you to be polite and respect your elders. If you lay a hand on me, everyone will know you threw your own brother-in-law out.”
As he spoke, he pressed the button and tapped the microphone twice to demonstrate the volume.
Clearly, he had come prepared.
With those taps, quite a few people turned to look their way.
Bai Yu’s skin was thick enough—he simply grabbed the microphone and shamelessly began speaking.
“Thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedules to attend my niece Yueyue’s full-month banquet.”
He stood tall, like a host. “I, Bai Yu, as Yueyue’s biological uncle, Cuihua—no, Yunfei’s elder brother, am especially happy today. Seeing my brother-in-law Chu Jinhan taking such good care of them, mother and daughter, I feel truly relieved!”
“……”
“……”
Now it wasn’t just Chu Jinhan who wanted to throw him out—even Song Yunfei wanted to do it.
Song Yunfei didn’t dare stay any longer. Shrinking her neck, she quietly slipped into the crowd and fled.
Chu Jinhan, however, remained calm, quietly watching him perform.
The people around them looked at him strangely, and some even laughed out loud.
Zhao Dachuan draped an arm over “Elegant Bro’s” shoulder and sighed, “I thought my skin was thick enough, but compared to this guy, I’m still lacking.”
Chu Jinhan watched as he continued his passionate speech, then took out his phone and opened WeChat, making a video call to Bai Yun.
“Brother-in-law, I truly—”
Before he could finish, a thunderous voice suddenly blasted from Chu Jinhan’s phone.
“BAI YU! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! What is that thing you’re holding, making a fool of yourself?! Shut up right now!”
Bai Yu, who had been speaking enthusiastically, froze mid-expression, his hand holding the microphone suspended in the air.
He slowly looked up and met Chu Jinhan’s half-smiling gaze.
“Why did you stop, dear brother-in-law?”
Bai Yu was so annoyed that he laughed. Turning off the speaker on his chest, he pointed at Chu Jinhan and gritted his teeth. “You’re really playing dirty.”
“Same to you.”
Seeing everyone around watching him, Bai Yu gave an awkward yet polite smile. “Everyone, please continue. I’ll go take a look at my niece.”
After saying that, he quickly slipped into the crowd and disappeared.
He found Song Yunfei in the lounge at the back.
Besides her, Xiao Xian was also there.
Xiao Xian was crouching by the cradle, holding a rattle and teasing Yueyue.
She had just come in as well—Bai Yu had been too embarrassing for her to watch.
Song Yunfei looked surprised. “You finished your speech?”
Bai Yu sighed, walked over to the cradle, and pinched the baby’s cheek gently with his finger. “Still miscalculated.”
After fighting with Chu Jinhan for so long, the number of times he had won could be counted on one hand—it really frustrated him.
Song Yunfei tried to persuade him, “Why do you always have to go against him? Wouldn’t it be better to get along peacefully?”
Bai Yu wasn’t pleased. “Look at you, siding with outsiders again. Isn’t he the one who dislikes me? As expected, a married-off sister is like water poured out… sigh.”
“Oh, come on. Every time you meet him, you tell me to divorce him. Of course he won’t like you.”
“And you’re still speaking for him? Whose sister are you, exactly?”
Xiao Xian chimed in from the side, “Exactly. Even though I don’t like Chu Jinhan either, this time it’s your fault.”
Bai Yu looked at Xiao Xian with interest. “My fault?”
Xiao Xian pursed her lips, her gaze drifting away as she started looking around awkwardly.
Song Yunfei’s eyes moved back and forth between the two of them, a hint of gossip lighting up in her gaze.
“She’s my wife, part of the Chu family. What does she have to do with you?”
Chu Jinhan’s voice came from the doorway, interrupting Song Yunfei’s wandering thoughts.
Song Yunfei quickly said, “Can you two calm down? You’ll scare Yueyue into crying.”
Her words worked. The two men glared at each other but didn’t say anything more.
Seeing the atmosphere turn awkward, Xiao Xian suddenly suggested, “Should we hold an online birthday celebration for Princess Yueyue?”
Song Yunfei was confused. “How would we do that online?”
“Just start a livestream and organize some kind of event?”
Song Yunfei twitched her lips and shook her head like a rattle drum. “No way. I don’t want to do something that silly.”
Bai Yu nodded seriously. “It is kind of silly. Being that high-profile won’t bring blessings—just a flood of criticism.”
Xiao Xian shot him a fierce glare. “You’re the silly one! Fine, don’t do it then!”
The two of them started bickering again.
Bai Yu seemed capable of arguing with anyone—that was his special talent.
Though who knew if he behaved the same way with clients.
Noticing Song Yunfei’s fatigue, Chu Jinhan stepped forward and said softly, “You should take Yueyue upstairs and rest for a while.”
Hearing that, Song Yunfei felt as if she had just been released from prison. “Will it be okay if I’m not there?”
“They’re not really here for you or Yueyue anyway.”
Song Yunfei nodded. True enough—people weren’t genuinely here to see the baby, so it didn’t matter whether she was present or not.
Chu Jinhan skillfully picked up the baby with one arm and used the other to help Song Yunfei up.
Sitting by the window upstairs, Song Yunfei looked at the lively garden below, feeling a little dazed.
Whenever there were crowds like this, she would start missing the days she and Chu Jinhan spent in Qingcheng.
Just the two of them—no need to deal with all these complicated relationships.
Chu Jinhan sat down beside her and followed her gaze.
Seemingly understanding her thoughts, he held her hand and said, “The company is planning a project in Qingcheng recently. Once you’ve recovered, we’ll go there in the second half of the year.”
Song Yunfei looked at him in surprise, then her expression turned to joy. “Really?”
Chu Jinhan nodded slightly. “Really. I’ll personally oversee the project.”
“How long will we stay?”
“About a year.”
Looking at his face, Song Yunfei couldn’t help but feel touched.
She could guess that this project was very likely arranged by Chu Jinhan specifically for her.
She hugged him, resting her face against his chest, and said softly, “You’re so good to me.”
Chu Jinhan wrapped an arm around her shoulders and said gently, “I also want to go back and take a look at our home.”
“Mm, then we’ll take Yueyue with us. I just don’t know if Mom will agree.”
“Leave it to me.” He patted her back. “Alright, get some rest first.”
Song Yunfei murmured in agreement, found a comfortable position in his arms, and closed her eyes.
Listening to the distant noise outside, sleep slowly overtook her.
