Bai Yu turned his gaze toward the inside of the room.
The woman in the room was wearing a wrinkled LV outfit. Her smoky makeup was smeared into black and red streaks across her face, and her hair was disheveled like a tangled mass of corn silk.
She stared at Bai Yu with eyes blazing with anger, as if she wanted to devour him alive.
Bai Yu took out a handkerchief from his pocket, wiped the soup stains from his sleeve, and stepped into the room, casually closing the door behind him.
“Miss Xiao, why are you so angry? Last night I saw that you were drunk, so I kindly brought you here to rest. Shouldn’t you be grateful to me? Why resort to personal attacks?”
Xiao Xian’s chest rose and fell rapidly. Hearing him speak so righteously, she suddenly let out a laugh out of anger.
“I’ve figured it out—you’re in cahoots with that woman, aren’t you?”
She sat on the bed, crossed her arms, and said, “You locked me up here because you’re afraid I’ll go find Chu Jinhan, or because you’re afraid I’ll go find Song Yunfei? This broken door of yours might keep me in for a while, but can it keep me here forever?”
Bai Yu clicked his tongue. “That’s a serious accusation. I’m a law-abiding citizen.”
“This door’s lock is old and malfunctioning—it automatically locked itself. I’m quite helpless about it.” He spread his hands with an innocent expression. “Once I discovered it, I immediately called a locksmith.”
Xiao Xian said nothing, just continued glaring at him.
Bai Yu raised an eyebrow. “Since you don’t believe me, fine. I’ll call the police for you.”
As he spoke, he took out his phone, preparing to make the call.
Unexpectedly, Xiao Xian suddenly sprang up and kicked straight at his groin. “Go to hell, you filthy man!”
Bai Yu was shocked and staggered back, but it was still a step too late.
Xiao Xian’s sneaker brushed past his pants—not a full hit, but she had put all her strength into it.
Bai Yu immediately doubled over, his phone falling to the ground.
He gritted his teeth, one hand clutching the vital area, the other supporting himself against a nearby cabinet.
His face pale, he looked at Xiao Xian and tried to speak.
“You…”
The word was forced out between clenched teeth, but the pain prevented him from continuing.
Xiao Xian lifted her chin and, still unsatisfied, stomped hard on his toe.
“…!”
“You look decent on the outside but are rotten inside. Tch! This isn’t over between us!”
After cursing him, Xiao Xian seized the moment while he was still reeling, grabbed her bag and phone, and quickly rushed out.
After she left, Bai Yu leaned against the wall and slowly made his way to the bed, sitting down.
“Xiao—Xian!” He ground his back teeth, staring at the dilapidated door, the corners of his lips curling into a smile tinged with anger. “You’re quite something.”
Bai Yu didn’t really know much about Xiao Xian. All he had heard were rumors—that she was a “pretty face with no substance,” someone who got roles through connections, had terrible acting skills, and a bad temper.
Whether she was just a pretty face or not, her bad temper was clearly real.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so careless.
——
Song Yunfei didn’t know how Bai Yu had left—he had disappeared in the blink of an eye.
The dinner was extremely lavish, even better than the last gathering with Manager He and the others, featuring large lobsters, king crabs, and more.
Most importantly, no one was competing for food.
After finishing the main course, there was still a buffet area with all kinds of desserts, fruits, and fine wines.
When she finished eating, she realized Bai Yu was gone.
“Are you full?” Chu Jinhan, who had been watching her the entire time, finally spoke.
He had truly watched her eat from start to finish—from the banquet table to the buffet area—and couldn’t help but wonder how her stomach managed to hold so much.
Song Yunfei proved with her actions that not only could she eat it all, she even drank two large cups of beverages afterward.
At this point, she was genuinely full. Rubbing her stomach, she said, “I’m full. Let’s go say goodbye to Miss Li and head out.”
“Mm.”
Song Yunfei found Li Miao. At that moment, Li Miao had just finished a phone call and was available.
Due to Xiao Xian’s disappearance, Li Miao wasn’t in the mood to chat much with them. After exchanging a few polite words, they said their goodbyes.
After walking out of the hotel, the temperature outside was still somewhat hot.
Chu Jinhan was holding two gift boxes in his arms—one was a complimentary gift, and the other was what they had won from the raffle.
The complimentary one contained some souvenirs, while the raffle prize was something worthwhile. The event prizes were all good; even the fifth prize was a robot vacuum cleaner.
Unfortunately, the first prize—a car—had been won by an internal staff member.
Still, this meant they wouldn’t even have to mop the floor in the future.
The two of them rode on an electric scooter that had no rearview mirrors, and they had to stop first to get one replaced.
Previously, one mirror had still been barely usable, but now both were gone, so replacing them was necessary.
The replacement was cheaper than expected—only 30 yuan for both. Not bad; at least they “earned” 20 yuan. Hopefully, he wouldn’t end up returning that 20 yuan to Bai Yu.
After returning home, they ran into Li Jiao, who had also just come back.
There was also a little boy with her.
“Sister-in-law, I haven’t seen you for several days. Were you out having fun?” Song Yunfei greeted her.
Li Jiao was dressed more formally today—T-shirt and jeans—and wasn’t wearing any makeup.
She smiled and said, “I went back to my hometown. The child’s on vacation, so I’m planning to take him out for some fun. Would you two like to join us?”
Song Yunfei quickly shook her head. “No, we still have to work.”
Li Jiao smiled. She had just asked casually anyway. “That’s true. You two young people still need to work hard to buy a house and get married. After getting married and having children without parents to help, expenses will be even greater. Better to earn more while you can.”
During their previous conversations, Li Jiao had learned that the two of them grew up in an orphanage.
In the future, after getting married and having children, everything would depend on themselves, so the pressure would naturally be greater.
Song Yunfei gave a couple of awkward laughs and couldn’t respond. She subconsciously glanced at Chu Jinhan, who was opening the door.
After entering, Song Yunfei immediately found an excuse to slip away.
Her stomach felt bloated and uncomfortable, so she collapsed onto the sofa as soon as she got inside, not wanting to move.
Chu Jinhan took out the robot vacuum cleaner and began installing it, setting up its working routes and running it through a cleaning cycle. The whole process would take two to three hours.
By the time he finished, Song Yunfei had already fallen asleep, lying face down on the sofa.
He reached out, about to wake her up.
At that moment, the phone in Song Yunfei’s hand slipped to the floor, the screen still lit. The video on it showed that the carpet had only been halfway cleaned.
Chu Jinhan bent down to pick up the phone, and a familiar incoming call popped up on the screen.
He paused for a moment, then without answering, hung up the call and immediately added the caller to the blacklist.
Two seconds later, a WeChat call came in.
Holding the phone, Chu Jinhan glanced at the incoming WeChat call without the slightest surprise.
He opened WeChat, rejected Bai Yu’s call, and checked the chat history. There wasn’t anything notable.
All the messages were sent by Bai Yu himself, but all the small red packets he had sent—worth just a few cents each—had already been claimed.
Because his calls weren’t getting through, Bai Yu had sent over a dozen red packets in a row:
Transfer of 0.15 yuan: “I suffered a lot tonight just to help you.”
Transfer of 0.5 yuan: “And you turned around and blacklisted me?”
Transfer of 1 yuan: “Song Yunfei, you heartless person.”
Transfer of 1.34 yuan: “Don’t ever ask me to take you away again.”
The sound of the vacuum cleaner and the video both quieted down. With the absence of the soothing background noise, Song Yunfei slowly opened her eyes.
Turning her head, she saw Chu Jinhan sitting beside her, playing with his phone.
The orange-white glow of the screen reflected on his face, highlighting his calm, composed expression.
Rubbing her eyes, Song Yunfei asked, “What time is it?”
Chu Jinhan ignored her.
Song Yunfei reached for her phone.
After searching for a while, she suddenly widened her eyes, as if rising abruptly from the brink of death, and turned to look at the phone in Chu Jinhan’s hand.
