The good mood of the day was ruined by the damned cockroaches.

She went to work feeling listless. During the corporate culture session, Zhang Tao asked if she hadn’t eaten enough breakfast.

He even had her stand alone and shout slogans loudly.

Zhang Tao shouted with force, “Get energized! Shout it out loud!”

“…To succeed, first go crazy.”

“What else? Louder! You’re this month’s top salesperson—show some momentum!”

Song Yunfei forced herself, her face turning red, and shouted, “To get rich, fight like a third generation! Only by going all out can you avoid failure. Sleep on the floor today, be the boss tomorrow!”

The surrounding colleagues burst into applause, the sound echoing throughout the sales office.

She felt like she had never been this embarrassed even as a child when she accidentally soiled herself. Who on earth invented this kind of corporate culture?

People with social anxiety would probably die in this line of work.

After the morning meeting ended, Song Yunfei slipped away. Before leaving, she asked Zhang Tao for the phone number of the rental client.

She contacted the client afterward. Yesterday, Zhang Tao hadn’t clearly explained the situation regarding Old Madam Chen’s family, so she felt it was necessary to clarify things—otherwise, the client might come back and cause trouble for her later.

The client was a woman surnamed Wang, who worked as a customer service manager at a hotel.

Sitting on her electric scooter, Song Yunfei briefly explained Old Madam Chen’s situation to Ms. Wang. Of course, she didn’t tell the full truth.

She only said that Old Madam Chen was worried her son might come back and cause trouble, so she asked her to think it through carefully.

Ms. Wang sighed. “I didn’t expect people like that still exist. However, as long as he’s not the violent type, it shouldn’t be a problem. I have a contract, and like you said, he works out of town—he can’t come back every day.”

Ms. Wang was quite experienced. Or perhaps she was simply eager to secure a place to live, so she didn’t mind much.

Since she didn’t mind, Song Yunfei felt relieved.

After hanging up, she rode straight to Old Madam Chen’s home.

They had almost finished packing. Unnecessary items were set aside, while important belongings were locked in a small room.

Tomorrow, Chen Wan would go to Huai City to look for a house, and once they found one, they would move immediately.

It was clear that Old Madam Chen still felt some reluctance about the home she had lived in for decades.

Song Yunfei comforted her. “Grandma Chen, don’t worry. This tenant is a very good person. She will take good care of the house.”

Old Madam Chen sighed. “When people get old, they become useless. These things don’t matter anymore.”

While packing, Chen Wan looked up and said, “Aunt, who doesn’t get old? We’ll all grow old someday. If that’s the case, why should we even work hard? We might as well just lie down and wait for old age.”

The old lady said, “That’s why, when you choose a husband in the future, you must find someone with a good personality—someone you get along with. At least I still have you to care about me. But if…”

She stopped halfway, sighing to herself, still worried about Chen Wan’s future.

Song Yunfei quietly helped with the packing. Hearing the old lady’s words, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of melancholy.

At noon, she stayed and ate at the old lady’s place. In the afternoon, after most of the cleaning was done, she helped tidy up as well.

Once they moved out, she would still need to hire a cleaning service to clean the place again.

After a while, her phone suddenly rang.

She took it out and saw that it was a call from Li Miao.

Song Yunfei put down the rag she was holding and stepped outside to answer. “Ms. Li, what brings you to call me?”

Li Miao said, “Am I disturbing you?”

“No, no. Go ahead.”

Li Miao smiled. “It’s nothing major. I just wanted to ask if you and Mr. Chu are free next Saturday. I’d like to invite you to attend our company’s 20th anniversary celebration.”

“Anniversary celebration?”

“Yes. I’ve already sent the invitation to your workplace, but I was worried you might not have received it, so I called to inform you.”

Song Yunfei hesitated and asked, “Who will be there?”

Strictly speaking, she shouldn’t have asked that—it was a bit beyond propriety. But she was worried that there might be people there whom Chu Jinhan knew.

Li Miao didn’t mind. “Just some business partners, clients, and a few close friends.”

Song Yunfei thought about it. Their company seemed to be only relatively influential in Qing City. It probably wouldn’t involve people at Chu Jinhan’s level.

Besides, Li Miao had only bought ten units. Refusing would be somewhat unreasonable.

“Alright, I’ll go back and discuss it with him.”

“Okay, then I’ll look forward to your reply.”

After hanging up, Song Yunfei continued cleaning.

Once she finished, she rode her bike to find Chu Jinhan.

As she took out her phone, she suddenly realized that Chu Jinhan was now a supervisor—supervisors at a workshop probably had to work overtime, right?

She sent him a message asking if he was working overtime.

But he didn’t reply. Song Yunfei assumed he was busy.

Since she was already there, she decided to find a nearby place to eat together while waiting for his response.

After waiting for about ten minutes, Chu Jinhan’s voice suddenly came from behind her.

“Song Yunfei.”

She instinctively turned around and saw him standing right behind her.

He was still wearing that familiar white shirt paired with jeans, the jeans washed so much they had started to fade.

Song Yunfei looked at him in surprise. “Why did you come out?”

“Off work.”

“Aren’t you working overtime?”

“We haven’t officially started production yet.” He walked over and took the initiative to sit on the electric scooter. “Get on.”

Song Yunfei responded with an “oh” and stepped onto the scooter behind him.

On the way back, she told Chu Jinhan about the anniversary celebration.

“You agreed to go?”

“Not exactly. I said I’d ask you first.”

Chu Jinhan thought for a moment. “If you agree, then go.”

Song Yunfei smiled. “If you don’t want to go, you don’t have to.”

Chu Jinhan said, “She just bought a house through you—it wouldn’t be appropriate to refuse.”

Seeing how reasonable he was, Song Yunfei felt a lot of emotion. If it were the Chu Jinhan who had regained his memory, he probably wouldn’t be this easy to talk to.

Li Miao really had good timing.

Originally, going home should have been something happy, but thinking about the cockroaches hiding in the house made Song Yunfei not want to go back.

After dinner, she took the dog out for a walk and deliberately stayed out until eleven o’clock before returning.

Qiuan was so tired that as soon as it got home, it lay down in its dog bed and fell asleep on its own, no longer thinking about climbing onto the bed.

After the two of them finished showering, they sat on the sofa, silently staring at the bed.

It was obvious neither of them wanted to lie on that bed.

Wasn’t it said that if there was one cockroach in the house, there was actually a whole nest hiding somewhere?

Song Yunfei stroked her chin. “Chu Jinhan, I’ve got a great idea. Let’s take turns sleeping. I’ll sleep in the first half of the night, and you watch the second half.”

Chu Jinhan glanced at her quietly. “So I’m guarding all night?”

Song Yunfei pouted, thinking he wouldn’t catch on so quickly.

She chuckled and couldn’t help but reach out to pat his head. “Just kidding. Your little brain is pretty smart.”

Chu Jinhan’s body stiffened slightly, then he tilted his head away, avoiding her mischievous hand.

“I have another idea,” Chu Jinhan said.

“What is it?”

“We can sleep on the sofa.”

Song Yunfei looked at the sofa they were sitting on—it was a straight-style two-seater.

Even one person sleeping on it would be a stretch, let alone two.

“It’s so small. How can two people sleep on it?”

Chu Jinhan pulled her into his arms and lay down, demonstrating with action how it could be done.

Song Yunfei occupied only a small portion of the sofa, almost entirely nestled in his embrace, her whole body pressed against him.

Separated only by thin sleepwear, their body heat transferred to each other, their breaths intertwined. In such an intimate position, she could clearly feel every part of his body.

After a moment, Song Yunfei noticed the change in him and struggled to lift her head to look at him. “Are you sure… we can sleep like this?”

Chu Jinhan pressed his lips together tightly, his breathing growing heavier.

He raised his hand, pressed her head back down, resting his chin on top of her head, and tightened his hold around her.

“Now… indeed, I can’t sleep.”

But he made no further moves, simply holding her quietly.

Song Yunfei listened to the steady heartbeat in his chest, while the sounds from the television became noisy and blurred.

After a long while, almost as if possessed, she softly squeezed out a few words: “Then… should I help you?”
