Wu Wei said without any hesitation, “How else would I make money? Of course by trading stocks. If this continues, I can double my money again tomorrow. It won’t be long before I can afford a Bentley.”
Song Yunfei’s eyelid twitched.
That’s how he’s doing it?
She told him not to trade stocks, and instead he got someone else to trade for him. His interpretation skills were truly top-notch.
But could it really be said that he himself was trading stocks? Not exactly.
Song Yunfei sighed helplessly. Forget it—she didn’t want to dwell on it anymore.
What was meant to happen couldn’t be stopped—just like last night.
“Did he say when he’ll come out?”
Wu Wei shook his head. “Not yet. He doesn’t even reply to my messages.”
Basically, only Chu Jinhan would contact him. If Wu Wei wanted to reach Chu Jinhan, he couldn’t—otherwise he wouldn’t be squatting here.
With nothing else to do, Wu Wei started showering him with praise.
The stock he had bought two days ago had been rising very well. Suddenly, Chu Jinhan messaged him to sell.
Wu Wei was a bit reluctant, but trusting the “big boss,” he decisively sold.
Sure enough, within less than thirty minutes, the stock began to fall continuously—almost dropping back to the entry price. It scared Wu Wei into breaking out in a cold sweat.
Song Yunfei didn’t understand any of it and didn’t want to either. She took out her phone and called Chu Jinhan.
Chu Jinhan had been very busy these days. The equipment in the new workshop had just been installed and had only recently started operating. Many workers were new, and since they were working with a new partner, quality control also needed close supervision.
But he picked up the phone quickly.
Song Yunfei asked, “When are you getting off work?”
“Soon.”
“Oh, I’m at the entrance of your industrial park. I ran into Wu Wei—he said he wants to treat you to a meal. Are you going?”
After she said that, the phone fell into an odd silence.
After a while, Chu Jinhan’s voice came through, “What did he tell you?”
“Nothing much. Just that he’s grateful to you. I didn’t expect you two to have become so close.”
This was exactly what Chu Jinhan had once said to her before—now the roles were reversed.
Even through the phone, Song Yunfei could sense the silence and awkwardness on the other end.
“…I’m off work. I’ll be out soon.”
With that, he hung up.
Wu Wei asked from the side, “So? Did Brother Chu agree to go?”
Song Yunfei glanced at him. “I think you should leave first, or you might get beaten later.”
Wu Wei froze, looking puzzled. “Why? I didn’t offend him. I just want to treat him to a meal.”
“Then you wait and see.”
Wu Wei hesitated, glancing between Song Yunfei’s faint, knowing smile and the industrial park gate.
“Alright then, I’ll go first. Goodbye, Sister Song!” In the end, he gritted his teeth, turned around decisively, hopped onto a roadside tricycle, and rode off with a “putt-putt-putt.”
Not long after Wu Wei left, Chu Jinhan came out.
He first looked at Song Yunfei, then scanned the surroundings for Wu Wei’s figure. “Where is he?”
“He had something to do and left. He’ll treat you to a meal another time.”
Song Yunfei caught the faint killing intent in his eyes and thought to herself that Wu Wei had escaped just in time.
She reached out and held Chu Jinhan’s hand. “Alright, let’s go back. I’m hungry.”
Chu Jinhan withdrew his gaze and looked at her a couple more times, as if confirming something.
Seeing her smiling brightly, his expression returned to normal.
They rode the electric scooter home, stopped by the market to buy groceries, and then Chu Jinhan took a detour to a parcel station to pick up a delivery.
“Such a big box—what’s inside?” Song Yunfei asked curiously.
Chu Jinhan replied, “A chair.”
“Why did you buy a chair?”
He placed the box on the scooter’s footrest and turned back to look at her. “It’s a computer chair.”
Song Yunfei froze.
Previously, they had bought a computer desk but not a computer chair, so she had been sitting on a regular stool when using the computer.
She hadn’t expected him to notice that.
Feeling touched, she also felt a bit puzzled. “But where did you get the money? Did you prepay your salary again?”
“No.”
“Then what?”
“Huabei.”
“……”
Who could understand the sense of salvation that comes from hearing those two words from a CEO?
Because he had changed to a new phone number and a new bank card, all the payment apps were registered with the new number and linked to the new card.
If he logged in with his original number, he would probably be scared to death by the balance displayed.
Fortunately, Song Yunfei didn’t know his old number—otherwise, she might have been tempted to secretly log in, empty the account, and run away.
Song Yunfei tried hard to suppress her laughter and sighed, “I already said I’d give you back your salary card.”
Chu Jinhan said, “There’s no money in that card either.”
Alright—Song Yunfei had nothing left to say.
The Chu Jinhan who once firmly refused online loans had ultimately stepped onto the path of using them.
After they got home, Chu Jinhan unpacked the box and began assembling the computer chair inside.
Song Yunfei very consciously went to the kitchen to cook.
By the time she finished cooking, the chair was almost fully assembled.
Song Yunfei eagerly sat down to try it. The feel was quite good—at a glance, it wasn’t cheap.
She turned to Chu Jinhan and asked, “How much did it cost?”
“800.”
A bit expensive. It would be worth it if used long-term, but if only used occasionally, it wasn’t very cost-effective.
Song Yunfei didn’t want to let down the chair he had bought using Huabei, so she smiled and said, “Thank you, I like it.”
“I also bought you a gift, but it hasn’t arrived yet.”
Chu Jinhan’s gaze lingered on her smiling eyes. “What is it?”
“You’ll know when it arrives. Alright, let’s eat.” Song Yunfei stood up from the chair and walked toward the dining table.
After dinner, they took Qiuan out for a walk. Song Yunfei shared what had happened during the day.
Most of the time, Chu Jinhan listened quietly, occasionally responding with a few words.
The streetlights cast a warm yellow glow, stretching and shortening the shadows of the two people and the dog.
Song Yunfei kept recalling Chen Wan’s words, which stirred faint ripples in her heart.
Even the walk felt a bit less enjoyable. Around nine o’clock, they returned home and washed up.
Song Yunfei sat at the computer checking information when suddenly there was a loud clattering noise from upstairs. At first, she thought someone was setting off firecrackers.
But upon listening carefully, she realized it was people arguing upstairs.
“You’re always like this! You forget everything you say right after you say it. I told you to focus on your job, but you hang out with those people every day. We agreed to save money to buy a house, and you even lent money out. Do you even plan to get married anymore?!”
“Stop yelling! It’s only 20,000 yuan. Are you obsessed with money? That’s my best friend! If I don’t lend it to him, who will?”
“What about me?! And the child in my belly?! You’re not going to care anymore?! Have you ever tried to get that money back?”
“Didn’t I care?! You’re just picking a fight on purpose! If you want to stay together, we stay; if not, then let’s break up!”
Hearing the argument upstairs, Song Yunfei felt an inexplicable heaviness in her chest.
She lost the mood to continue checking information. She shut down her computer and lay down on the bed.
Chu Jinhan had also finished his shower and came out, clearly having heard the argument upstairs as well.
He sat silently on the bed, and the two of them remained quiet for a moment.
The argument continued for about ten minutes, accompanied by crashing sounds, and finally ended with the sound of a door slamming.
Song Yunfei turned to look at him. “Chu Jinhan.”
Chu Jinhan also turned his head, meeting her gaze. Before she could speak, he said first, “We’ll move after the salary is paid.”
Song Yunfei said, “That’s not what I wanted to say.”
“Then what do you want to say?”
Song Yunfei pondered, “Just hypothetically—if a person had a terminal illness and the doctor said they only had at most one year left…”
“They should live properly…”
Before she could finish, Chu Jinhan suddenly straightened his body. For the first time, there was shock and panic in his eyes.
“You have a terminal illness?”
“……”
