The atmosphere suddenly became very awkward. Song Yunfei didn’t even feel like taking her packages anymore. She wished she could just disappear on the spot.
Forcing a smile, she said, “Uh… weren’t you supposed to be at work?”
Chu Jinhan walked over to her side. “Today is Saturday.”
Although he was speaking to Song Yunfei, his gaze was sizing up Bai Yu.
Song Yunfei also sneaked a glance at Bai Yu across from her. He remained very composed, still wearing a faint smile, allowing Chu Jinhan to examine him.
Bai Yu’s appearance and temperament were both extremely outstanding.
Compared to someone like Wu Wei, he was far superior.
Any slightly ordinary man would feel a sense of pressure standing in front of him.
After looking at him for a moment, Chu Jinhan withdrew his gaze and then turned to Song Yunfei. “Your friend?”
Song Yunfei nodded stiffly. “Yeah… just a classmate, from primary school… an upperclassman.”
She originally wanted to say university classmate, but then remembered that the original host had claimed she never went to university, so she could only say primary school classmate.
In fact, Chu Jinhan had met Bai Yu before—right after his car accident. Bai Yu had been the one who examined him.
It was just that at the time, he had been badly injured and mentally unclear, so he had forgotten him.
Bai Yu couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh upon hearing “primary school upperclassman.”
Song Yunfei glared at him.
Bai Yu suppressed his smile, though the corners of his lips still curved slightly. “Mm, that’s right—primary school upperclassman.”
He even extended his hand. “Hello, my name is Bai Yu.”
Chu Jinhan ignored the hand he offered. “Mm.”
Bai Yu’s hand froze awkwardly in midair. He wasn’t annoyed; he simply smiled and withdrew his hand into his pocket.
Casually, he said, “I only just arrived in Qingcheng yesterday and am unfamiliar with the place, so I thought of contacting an old classmate. Mr. Chu shouldn’t mind, right?”
Hearing how he addressed him, Chu Jinhan’s brows moved slightly. “You know who I am?”
“Of course. Yunfei often mentions you.”
Chu Jinhan looked at Song Yunfei with a quiet, probing gaze. “You often talk about me to others?”
……
Song Yunfei’s eyes darted away. She could barely keep her smile.
She crouched down pretending to check the package. “This computer doesn’t look like it’s in near-new condition. Feels like I’ve been cheated.”
Bai Yu continued asking, “May I ask where Mr. Chu is currently working?”
“Why? Didn’t she tell you?”
“She didn’t. It’s just that Yunfei doesn’t seem to be living very well. You wouldn’t be mistreating her, would you?”
Chu Jinhan said nothing.
Bai Yu glanced at the electric scooter with a broken rearview mirror, patched together with tape. It was already worn out, and now it looked even more shabby.
“Yunfei, do you usually ride this to work?”
Song Yunfei really couldn’t take it anymore. She suddenly stood up, glaring at Bai Yu. “Are you done yet? I’m doing perfectly fine. I just get motion sickness, so I prefer riding an electric scooter—what’s wrong with that?”
Bai Yu replied, “I know you too well. It’s fine to fool others, but don’t fool yourself.”
“You—” Song Yunfei really wanted to find something to gag his mouth shut.
She had known from the start that this meeting would be a disaster!
Bai Yu was deliberately trying to sow discord, while Chu Jinhan was now suspicious of her cheating.
Was there really no one looking out for her at all?!
In a fit of anger, Song Yunfei didn’t bother with either of them anymore—and didn’t even take the remaining box.
She hopped onto her electric scooter. “I’m leaving. You two can keep chatting!”
With that, she sped off without hesitation.
Since Bai Yu had come with a mission—and was, in a sense, an accomplice—Song Yunfei wasn’t worried that he would reveal the truth. At most, he would just stir things up with his words.
To her, Bai Yu felt like the kind of dog on a leash being led by its owner, provoking another fierce dog—once the leash was loosened, he would run faster than anyone else.
The more fiercely she provoked now, the worse it would be for her once Chu Jinhan regained his memory.
In the future, Bai Yu would probably end up as her “cellmate.”
Watching her flee in a panic, a dark glint flashed in Chu Jinhan’s eyes.
Bai Yu clicked his tongue softly and withdrew his gaze, then looked back at Chu Jinhan.
“In that case, I’ll take my leave as well. I’ll come visit again when I have the chance.” As he spoke, he deliberately took out his car key from his trouser pocket in front of Chu Jinhan—a Mercedes-Benz key.
Just as Bai Yu turned to leave, he seemed to sense something.
He suddenly looked down—and saw a little dog beside his feet, lifting one leg and urinating onto his pants.
The gentle smile on Bai Yu’s face froze instantly. Almost instinctively, he took a sharp step back.
But it was already too late. A streak of liquid had appeared on the polished leather shoe, and a few drops had splashed onto the hem of his pants.
“……”
Bai Yu looked down at the “masterpiece” on his shoe. His expression finally failed to stay composed, and a vein faintly throbbed at his temple.
He looked up at Chu Jinhan across from him, still forcing a smile that carried a hint of suppressed anger. “Mr. Chu really is… quite hospitable.”
Chu Jinhan looked at him indifferently, expressionless. “Next time you come, it can be even more hospitable.”
Bai Yu didn’t know whether to laugh out of anger or amusement. He let out a short laugh but said nothing more.
He turned and walked toward the Mercedes parked by the roadside. Before getting into the car, he shook his foot.
That simple gesture instantly shattered the image of his refined, unfathomable elegance, bringing him back to the level of a rather embarrassed ordinary person.
Chu Jinhan stood where he was, watching the Mercedes S300 drive away before slowly withdrawing his gaze.
He lowered his eyes and looked at the little dog beside his feet.
Meeting his gaze, Qianqian opened its mouth, stuck out its tongue, and wagged its tail at him.
Song Yunfei carried the boxes into the house, opened them, and took out the desktop computer inside.
After carefully inspecting it, the exterior seemed fine.
However, the monitor had been left behind at the pickup station.
Thinking about those two men, she couldn’t help but sigh.
Life was already stressful enough every day, and now Bai Yu had been added into the mix—this was getting impossible to live with.
Song Yunfei suddenly thought of something. She took out her phone and first called Chu Jinhan.
After a short while, the call connected—but the person on the other end didn’t speak.
The silence made her heart sink repeatedly.
She cautiously asked, “Chu Jinhan, could you help me bring back the other package?”
After another stretch of silence, she finally heard him say, “Okay.”
Song Yunfei let out a sigh of relief. “Alright, thank you.”
Good—it didn’t seem like he was very angry.
After waiting a bit longer, she figured the two of them should have already separated.
She then called Bai Yu again.
“Aren’t you afraid he’ll misunderstand if you call me now?”
Song Yunfei smiled, her tone becoming somewhat ingratiating. “Oh, I’m just thinking about you. If you get dragged into this, I’d feel really bad.”
“Oh? Is that so.”
“Yes, absolutely. Heaven and earth can bear witness—I’m very grateful that you helped me, but I can’t let you get implicated because of me.”
Bai Yu chuckled. “Since you know the consequences are serious, why did you do it in the first place?”
“This… that… I was just momentarily confused. Once the arrow is released, it can’t be taken back. There’s nothing I can do now.”
After a moment of silence on the other end, Bai Yu sighed. “From your tone, it sounds like you need my help with something?”
Song Yunfei laughed awkwardly. “You could tell? As expected of you.”
“Just say it. What is it?”
“Lend me some money.”
“How much?”
“Not much… about one million. If you’re willing, two million would be fine too.”
