“Why didn’t you send me a message in advance?”
Song Yunfei felt that this guy was going to misunderstand again and think she was cheating. Sigh.
Bai Yu chuckled. “Is Chu Jinhan beside you? He doesn’t even like you, so why are you afraid he’ll misunderstand?”
Song Yunfei could tell from his teasing tone that he was doing it on purpose.
He had also called her late at night last time—wasn’t he deliberately choosing times when Chu Jinhan was around?
Before Song Yunfei could speak, Bai Yu continued, “Even if he has feelings for you now, it’s only because he’s lost his memory. His mind is empty, and you’re the only person around him. Medically speaking, this is called post-traumatic attachment.”
“Even if you were a dog, he would treat you as the most important dog in his life.”
Song Yunfei froze for a moment. That was quite harsh!
But deep down, that was exactly what she had been thinking these days—she just couldn’t find the right words to describe it. Bai Yu had, in a way, helped clarify her confusion.
Still, she felt inexplicably annoyed. “You’re the dog! You didn’t travel all this way just to tell me this, did you?”
“Of course not. But I really don’t want you to get too deeply involved and be deceived by this illusion. You’ll suffer for it in the future.”
“Don’t treat yourself as the only light that can save him. When the real sun rises, who still needs a kerosene lamp?”
Song Yunfei sighed helplessly. “So what exactly do you want?”
“What do you think?”
Those three short words carried too much intent, leaving Song Yunfei completely speechless.
After a long silence, she finally said, “Find a hotel and stay there first. I’ll come see you tomorrow.”
Bai Yu was also straightforward. He smiled and said, “Alright.”
After hanging up, Song Yunfei turned to look toward the tree again.
Chu Jinhan was squatting on the ground, looking somewhat disgusted as he carefully placed a large bundle of tissues into a sealed bag.
As expected, the tissues were wrapping Qianqian’s poop.
Song Yunfei walked over to him and said softly, “Let’s go back.”
Chu Jinhan responded with a quiet “mm,” handed her the leash, then turned to throw the trash into the bin.
The two of them remained silent. Chu Jinhan didn’t ask who she had been talking to.
After returning home, he took Qianqian to the bathroom to wash its paws and bottom, then showered himself and came out wearing gray sleepwear.
Song Yunfei opened her mouth, but couldn’t think of anything to say. She sighed and went to take a shower herself.
When she came out, Chu Jinhan was leaning against the headboard reading a book.
The warm lighting cast a calm glow on his profile. His slightly messy hair fell across his forehead, and his long fingers rested on the pages, though his gaze was unfocused, and he hadn’t turned a page for a long time.
Qianqian was running around restlessly beside him, whining anxiously, but he didn’t pick it up.
Song Yunfei walked over, about to carry Qianqian onto the bed, when a long hand suddenly pressed down on her arm.
She instinctively looked up and met the man’s deep gaze.
“Let it sleep on the floor.”
Song Yunfei was stunned. This was the first time she had seen him so firm.
“But if it barks, it might disturb the neighbors…” Perhaps because she felt guilty, her voice lacked confidence.
“You’ve been too indulgent with it. That’s why it doesn’t understand its place and keeps pushing its limits.”
…
Why did that sound so sharp?
It seemed like he was talking about the dog, but also something else. Who was he referring to?
In the end, Song Yunfei gave in. She brought Qianqian’s dog bed next to the bed and placed it inside.
“Qianqian, be good and sleep here tonight, okay?”
But it didn’t seem to understand. It jumped out of the bed again, sat in front of Song Yunfei, and wagged its tail while looking at her with pleading eyes.
Song Yunfei hesitated, scratching her cheek, then turned on the light and placed it in front of the dog bed.
Seeing the canned food, Qianqian immediately forgot its loyalty and happily ran over to eat it.
Song Yunfei took the opportunity to turn off the lights and quickly got onto the bed.
Chu Jinhan reached out to turn off the bedside lamp, but Song Yunfei grabbed his hand. “Leave this one on. If it gets too dark later, it’ll start barking again.”
Chu Jinhan turned his head to look at her.
After a moment of silence, he withdrew his hand.
He looked at Song Yunfei, and only then did she realize she was half-lying on top of him.
She hurriedly tried to move back, but suddenly her waist tightened, and she was pulled directly onto the man’s chest.
He lowered his head. His breath, carrying a fresh jasmine scent from after brushing his teeth, brushed across her cheeks.
Being stared at by him made Song Yunfei’s scalp tingle, as if even her heartbeat had quickened.
Just as their distance was about to close further, Chu Jinhan lowered his head and kissed her directly.
Song Yunfei instinctively turned away. She wasn’t in the mood at all since she was on her period. “Let’s sleep, I—”
“Aren’t you my girlfriend? Not letting me kiss you?”
Song Yunfei froze for a moment. Glancing into the dark currents in his eyes, her lips twitched.
She sighed helplessly. “Fine, fine—kiss, kiss.”
Song Yunfei leaned in first and gave him a quick kiss on the lips.
“Is that enough? If not, I’ll kiss you again.”
She cupped his face and pressed several more light pecks on his tightly pressed lips.
However, on the final kiss, she couldn’t pull away.
Because the back of her head was held firmly in place.
Their lips were tightly pressed together. She tried to look up, but before she could see clearly, his lips pressed down again. Her lips were forced open, and her breath was stolen.
One hand held the back of her head, fingers threading through her soft hair, while the other rested against her lower back, erasing the last bit of space between them.
Compared to the previous two times, his kiss was more intense, as if he wanted to devour her.
Their bodies were pressed tightly together. Through the thin fabric, they could feel each other’s body heat, as well as the steady resonance of their heartbeats.
It felt as if they had merged into one.
The dim yellow glow from the bedside lamp enveloped the small space, while the cold air from the air conditioner couldn’t dispel the warmth on the bed.
In just a short moment, fine beads of sweat appeared on their foreheads and necks.
Due to lack of oxygen, Song Yunfei’s mind buzzed blankly.
After an unknown amount of time, Chu Jinhan finally stopped.
As he pulled away, without needing to restrain her, Song Yunfei was already weakly lying against his chest.
He looked down at her moist, glistening lips and said in a slightly hoarse voice, “Now that’s enough.”
…
With her cheek pressed against his firm chest, the sound of his heartbeat she heard was even louder than his voice.
Breathing unevenly, she couldn’t speak. She only lifted her eyelids and gave him a resentful glance.
Chu Jinhan raised his hand, brushing the damp strands of hair from her cheek behind her ear, then placed her back onto the pillow.
“Go to sleep.”
After saying that, he got off the bed and went to the bathroom somewhat frustrated.
Song Yunfei glanced toward the bathroom and silently thought to herself—serves him right.
He insisted on kissing her even though she was on her period—now he was suffering for it.
Listening to the sound of running water from the bathroom, drowsiness crept in, and she soon fell asleep.
In a half-asleep, half-awake state, she felt someone hold her.
Someone seemed to say something in her ear, but she was too sleepy to hear it clearly.
