Song Yunfei hurriedly took out her phone—and good heavens, it was already 4 a.m.

Unconsciously, she felt a little guilty.

She stuffed the beef cubes in her hand into Quanquan’s mouth, stood up, and sheepishly went to grab her pajamas before heading into the bathroom.

After quickly finishing her shower, she came out and found that Chu Jinhan was still sitting on the sofa, as still as a monk in meditation.

Song Yunfei asked in confusion, “Why are you sitting there? Aren’t you going to sleep?”

Chu Jinhan looked up at her, studied her for a moment, his lips moving slightly—but after a two-second pause, he only said two words: “Not sleepy.”

“Not sleepy?”

Song Yunfei froze for a moment, but quickly realized something. “I get it—it’s because of what happened earlier, right? Actually, I’m not sleepy either. I’m just a bit hungry. Do you want instant noodles?”

“Why aren’t you saying anything?”

Chu Jinhan remained silent for a while. “It’s fine. I’m not hungry.”

Song Yunfei glanced at him suspiciously a couple of times. He seemed to have something on his mind—probably still bothered by what had just happened.

She sighed, then took out some instant noodles and went into the kitchen.

Although Chu Jinhan said he wasn’t hungry, she still cooked two packets.

She fried two eggs and added some vegetables—this way it would taste better than just soaking the noodles.

Song Yunfei ran out carrying two bowls of noodles, placed them on the table, picked up the remote, turned on the TV, and randomly selected a cartoon that didn’t require a membership.

Then she grabbed a cushion and placed it on the floor.

Sitting on the sofa wasn’t convenient for eating—sitting on the floor was much more comfortable.

She turned to look at Chu Jinhan, thought for a moment, then fetched another cushion and placed it beside hers on the floor.

Song Yunfei patted the cushion. “Sit here and eat.”

Chu Jinhan lowered his gaze and glanced at her. She was wearing a loose nightgown, sitting cross-legged on the floor, her hair tied up on top of her head. The overhead light made her eyes look bright and sparkling.

He didn’t say anything, but after looking at her for two seconds, he moved from the sofa to the floor.

Perhaps because the space between the coffee table and the sofa was too narrow, and his legs were long, he couldn’t sit cross-legged like Song Yunfei. Instead, he had to bend his knees, leaving his legs awkwardly constrained.

To be honest, sitting like this was even more uncomfortable.

Holding her bowl, Song Yunfei picked up her noodles and ate quietly on her own.

The two of them sat side by side on the floor, silently eating instant noodles while listening to the childish dialogue from the cartoon, occasionally hearing the sound of chopsticks tapping against bowls.

Suddenly, the phone lying face down on the table let out a “ding-dong.”

Someone had sent a message.

Both Song Yunfei and Chu Jinhan turned their heads at the same time—it was Song Yunfei’s phone.

At this hour—almost 5 a.m.—who would be sending messages?

Song Yunfei really couldn’t think of anyone, but it definitely wasn’t anything good.

Aside from the few coworkers she had recently added, any chat records on her phone being seen by Chu Jinhan would be… deadly.

She laughed awkwardly. “Probably just some client acting up again.”

As soon as she finished speaking, another “ding-dong” sounded.

Ding-dong, ding-dong—seven or eight notifications came in rapid succession.

Song Yunfei swallowed nervously and forced a smile as she glanced at the man beside her.

Chu Jinhan remained calm and said, “Why aren’t you checking? Maybe it’s urgent.”

“Right, I’ll take a look.” Song Yunfei steeled herself, mechanically reached out, slowly picked up her phone, unlocked it, and casually tilted the screen away.

Fortunately, it wasn’t Bai Yu—it was Wu Wei who had sent the messages.

[Heard that President Chu single-handedly took down that group of troublemakers?]

[That’s amazing! As expected of President Chu!]

The rest were all flattery, and Song Yunfei could almost imagine his sycophantic expression at that moment.

After glancing at the messages twice, she suddenly sensed something. Slowly, she shifted her gaze to the side.

And then—her eyes met Chu Jinhan’s.

“That… it’s Wu Wei. He’s praising you.”

Thinking there was nothing shameful in the messages, she simply turned the screen toward him. “Here.”

Chu Jinhan glanced at the messages Wu Wei had sent, then shifted his gaze back to Song Yunfei’s face.

“President Chu?”

Song Yunfei nodded earnestly. “Yeah. He calls everyone ‘President.’ He even calls me ‘President Song.’”

“Your relationship… suddenly became this good?”

Song Yunfei had already prepared her explanation. “Of course—it’s because he wants me to help him pursue Xiao Shuang.”

“Even though he pretended to be a rich second-generation heir to deceive her into dating him, he really does like her, so he wants to win her back.”

Chu Jinhan pondered for a moment and didn’t continue questioning. He seemed to accept it.

He collected the bowls and utensils from the table and stood up. “I’ll wash the dishes. You go to sleep first.”

After saying that, he took the dishes into the kitchen.

Song Yunfei also stood up and went to the bathroom to wash up.

She wasn’t sleepy at all. Thinking she would still need to take the dog out later, she decided not to sleep.

Leaning on the sofa, she chatted with Wu Wei for a while.

She wanted to know how he had found out about the situation.

Wu Wei told her that Liu Maocai had rushed out in the middle of the night to get his people, and he was quite furious. It was Wu Wei’s third uncle who helped find them, and Wu Wei only learned about it through him.

“Haozi” was the tattooed man, and everyone knew him.

However, the two groups didn’t mix.

Haozi’s group were people who had gone to prison years ago for injuring someone. After getting out, they didn’t want to work, preferring a lazy, drifting lifestyle.

Wu Wei’s group, on the other hand, were quite ambitious. Their goal was to start a business, make big money, and date beautiful women.

So far, they had already bankrupted a car wash and a barbershop. Now, with funds running low, they decided to “enjoy the results” in advance.

That meant chasing girls and enjoying life first, worrying about the rest later.

Song Yunfei suddenly felt they were actually quite impressive—to have enough money to bankrupt two businesses.

As she chatted, she suddenly felt a chill behind her.

She subconsciously turned around—and saw Chu Jinhan standing behind her like a ghost. She was so startled she nearly jumped off the sofa.

“You scared me to death! Why didn’t you make a sound?”

Chu Jinhan withdrew his gaze and replied calmly, “You were too focused.”

“Were you secretly looking at my chats?”

“No.”

“Really not?”

Chu Jinhan didn’t answer her, instead smoothly changing the topic. “Give me Wu Wei’s contact information.”

“What for?”

Chu Jinhan countered, “Are you worried I’ll do something to him?”

Song Yunfei opened her mouth, then gave up. She looked away and forwarded Wu Wei’s contact details to him.

“I’ve sent it to you.”

Chu Jinhan nodded slightly, took his phone, and sat on the sofa, though it was unclear what he was doing.

Meanwhile, Song Yunfei lay down on the sofa, pulled a blanket over herself, and said, “I’ll nap for a bit. If you’re not asleep, wake me up at seven.”

Chu Jinhan turned his head to look at her. “Why don’t you sleep on the bed?”

“If I go to the bed, I won’t be able to get up.” Song Yunfei yawned, closing her eyes. “I still have to take Quanquan out to use the bathroom.”

At the mention of the last sentence, Chu Jinhan’s fingers holding the phone twitched slightly.

His gaze shifted toward the dog lying beside the sofa.

Quanquan seemed to sense his gaze. It lifted its eyelids and stared back at him with its round, pitiful eyes.

Its tail wagged back and forth in a somewhat ingratiating manner.

Although Chu Jinhan’s expression showed no change, under his gaze, the dog’s wagging tail gradually slowed.

In the end, it drooped onto the floor, and its eyes became cautious as it quietly looked away.
