If it wasn’t fabricated, then he had truly struck gold.
It’s worth noting that their factory did not conduct background checks.
During interviews, they only asked questions related to the job to get a sense of the candidate.
For a position like Chu Jinhan’s, as long as his foreign language skills were up to standard, there was no need for further investigation—after all, small factories had difficulty hiring people.
Back then, they only tested him on English and Japanese, and he passed both.
So Mr. He had everyone else leave the meeting and kept Chu Jinhan behind alone.
Mr. He stood up and then plopped down beside Chu Jinhan, smiling ingratiatingly.
“Xiao Chu, did you really study in France and the UK?”
Previously, Mr. He hadn’t taken that part seriously. He had always assumed the resume was partly fabricated; he had kept Chu Jinhan mainly because he spoke foreign languages fluently.
Chu Jinhan shifted slightly to the side, creating some distance between them. “Yes.”
Mr. He flashed a row of yellow teeth as he grinned. “Say a few sentences in German for me to hear?”
Chu Jinhan paused for two seconds. “Dein Mund sieht aus, als wurde man Kacke essen.”
Mr. He clearly didn’t understand it, but he was stunned by Chu Jinhan suddenly speaking German.
He gave Chu Jinhan a thumbs-up. “Not bad, not bad. I knew I didn’t misjudge you.”
Patting his shoulder, Mr. He asked curiously, “By the way, how did you end up joining our factory?”
Chu Jinhan replied, “Probably fate.”
Mr. He laughed heartily. “Good, good.”
“Xiao Chu, you’ll go to the exhibition with me this time. If we can successfully secure clients this time, you’ll be responsible for the German market in the future. I’ll give you a base salary of five thousand, commissions extra.”
Chu Jinhan’s eyes flickered slightly, and he nodded. “Alright.”
Mr. He finally felt a weight lifted off his shoulders—but not completely.
This was a national apparel exhibition, with many well-known large factories attending. They were far beyond what a small factory like theirs could compare to.
He was still somewhat worried whether Chu Jinhan could secure any German clients.
As for clients from other countries, they had little hope—they simply couldn’t compete with the bigger factories. Only the German market offered a glimmer of possibility.
Not wanting to think further, Mr. He patted Chu Jinhan on the shoulder again. “Come on, I’ll treat you to a big dinner tonight.”
Chu Jinhan politely declined. “No need, Mr. He. I still have to pick up my girlfriend.”
Mr. He immediately frowned. “That girlfriend of yours who checks up on you every ten minutes?”
Chu Jinhan didn’t respond, which was essentially a confirmation.
Mr. He shook his head and sighed. “You… what can I say… Although it’s your personal matter and I shouldn’t interfere too much…”
“But I still have to advise you—focus more on your work. A man needs money. Without money, no matter how well you treat her, she’ll eventually leave.”
“Even if she hasn’t left yet, it’s only because she hasn’t met someone better. I’ve been through the same thing myself.”
Once Mr. He started talking, he couldn’t stop, launching into stories about his past days as a “simps” man.
Chu Jinhan listened with a blank expression.
After Mr. He finished, he summarized, “A man without money is disliked by both people and dogs.”
But Chu Jinhan still showed no expression. Seeing this, Mr. He had no choice but to wave his hand. “Alright, you can get off work now.”
The meeting had lasted over half an hour, and it was already seven o’clock.
Night had fallen.
Song Yunfei picked up her phone and glanced at it, thinking to herself that he probably wasn’t done with work yet.
After some thought, she sent a message to Chu Jinhan.
If he was still working overtime, she would take the bus home first.
Five minutes after sending the message, Chu Jinhan still hadn’t replied. She stood up and left the sales office.
Just as she stepped outside, she ran into a man wearing a floral shirt.
He blocked Song Yunfei’s path and smiled. “Beautiful, just getting off work?”
Song Yunfei looked at the man. He had an average appearance and seemed somewhat familiar, but she couldn’t quite recall where she had seen him.
The man said, “You don’t recognize me?”
Song Yunfei still looked confused. “And you are…?”
The man pulled a business card from his pocket and smiled. “You even gave me one of your cards before. Don’t remember?”
It suddenly clicked for Song Yunfei—this was the man who had driven the Porsche earlier. “Oh, it’s you. Are you here this late to look at houses?”
The man replied, “Yeah. Didn’t I say I wanted to buy a house? Why don’t you introduce me to some options?”
At this point, she was the only one still at the office besides Zhang Tao, who was still inside his office and hadn’t left.
Song Yunfei had a vague feeling that this man wasn’t a good person, but since he had come to look at houses, she couldn’t refuse him outright.
She gestured politely and led him to the model display.
Then she took out a brochure and began introducing the property.
However, the man’s attention was clearly not on the houses—his gaze was fixed on her face.
His eyes repeatedly drifted across her face, neck, and chest.
From time to time, he tried to strike up conversation. “Miss Song, working overtime this late must be tough, right?”
“Are you single? Do you have a boyfriend?”
“Thanks for your concern. I do have a boyfriend.” Song Yunfei smiled politely and continued, “This unit faces south on the balcony, and also…”
The man walked closer to her, almost pressing against her.
Smiling, he interrupted her. “They all look about the same to me. How about I treat you to a meal? We can find a place to sit down, and you can explain everything to me in detail?”
Song Yunfei frowned and stepped aside, increasing the distance between them.
“Sir, if you’re here to look at houses, I can continue introducing them to you. If you’re not planning to buy, then I’m getting off work.”
Seeing her firm attitude, the man’s smile faded.
“Isn’t your job all about selling more houses? Come have a meal with me, and I’ll come sign the contract tomorrow—full payment. How about that?”
Song Yunfei’s expression turned unpleasant. There are always people like this—having a bit of money makes them think they’re superior to everyone else.
But before she could respond, the office door opened.
Zhang Tao immediately noticed the subtle tension between the two. Although he encouraged female employees to boost performance, he never forced them—it was entirely voluntary.
Not wanting trouble to escalate, he stepped in before things got out of hand.
“Xiao Song, still not off work?”
Zhang Tao quickly walked over, smiling as he addressed the floral-shirt man. “Sir, are you interested in our property? I’m the manager here, Zhang Tao. If you have any needs, you can discuss them with me.”
“She’s new and hasn’t even memorized all the property details yet, so she might not be able to meet your expectations. Xiao Song, you can head off work now. I’ll take care of this gentleman.”
Song Yunfei felt as though she had been granted a reprieve. It seemed Zhang Tao wasn’t completely a jerk after all.
“Alright, Manager.”
After saying that, she quickly gathered her things and left work.
The man in the floral shirt glanced at Zhang Tao, clearly displeased, then left.
Zhang Tao spat in disdain. “Another one pretending to be something he’s not. If he wants to flirt, he should at least put down a deposit first!”
“Miss Song, why run off so quickly? I just wanted to have a meal with you and make friends—I’m not going to eat you.”
By the time Song Yunfei reached the roadside, the man’s Porsche was parked nearby.
He tapped the hood of the car, a hint of pride and superiority in his eyes. “How about I give you a ride home? Where do you live?”
“Thanks, but no need.”
The man’s expression darkened, but he didn’t continue to harass her. After being rebuffed several times, he clearly felt embarrassed.
Muttering something under his breath, he turned and got back into his Porsche.
Only after seeing him leave did Song Yunfei finally breathe a sigh of relief.
But when she turned around, she saw Chu Jinhan standing not far away beside an electric bike.
He was quietly watching her.
