Just like the first time with Chu Jinhan, there was absolutely no technique involved—if anything, it was even worse than his.
Both of them felt uncomfortable, the difference being that Chu Jinhan didn’t scratch her.
In the end, Chu Jinhan had to take care of things himself.
But Song Yunfei only felt that both her dignity and pride had been completely lost—she couldn’t even lift her head anymore.
Chu Jinhan described her as looking like a zombie from Plants vs. Zombies.
When Song Yunfei heard that comparison, she immediately became embarrassed and angry, using all her strength to push the man off her.
“You’re the zombie! Go play by yourself!”
With that, she grabbed her clothes from the floor and ran back to the bedroom as fast as she could, locking the door behind her.
As the loud slam of the door echoed, Chu Jinhan sat on the sofa in a daze, still in the same posture he had been pushed into.
Looking at the tightly shut bedroom door, his confusion deepened, mixed with a hint of disorder.
He silently sat up, bent down to pick up the scattered clothes on the floor, and the trapped pet “Quanquan” was finally freed.
It wagged its tail, sniffing the air curiously.
Chu Jinhan went to the fridge, took out a bottle of water, and drank more than half of it.
After a while, he walked to the bedroom door, grabbed the handle, and tried to turn it—but it wouldn’t open.
——
Inside the blanket, Song Yunfei comforted herself for quite a while. One moment of initiative had led to a lifetime of social withdrawal.
Right now, whenever she closed her eyes, all she could see were zombies—and when she thought about herself in comparison, she felt so ashamed and frustrated that she kept pounding the bed.
After more than half an hour, her mood finally calmed down a little.
She sat up in bed, leaned against the headboard, and took out her phone to check her balance.
This guy must have landed some huge client—he actually transferred one million at once.
Thinking back to Chu Jinhan’s unusual behavior after returning, she couldn’t help but suspect whether he had regained his memory.
Song Yunfei wasn’t too sure.
She opened her contacts, found Bai Yu’s number, and called him.
Soon, the call connected, and as expected, she heard the infuriating voice on the other end.
“Isn’t this the ‘no phone calls at night’ Yang Cuihua? At this hour, aren’t you supposed to be all lovey-dovey with your precious boyfriend?”
Song Yunfei ignored him and sighed deeply.
Hearing her sigh, Bai Yu immediately became serious. “What’s wrong?”
Song Yunfei sighed again.
“…Are you mute?”
“I feel like Chu Jinhan is acting a bit strange. Do you think he’s regained his memory?”
“Oh? What makes you say that?”
Song Yunfei thought for a moment. “I can’t really explain it. Sometimes he seems normal, but other times he feels much more assertive than before.”
“Wasn’t he assertive before?”
Song Yunfei considered it. He had been assertive at times before, but not this much—most of the time, he had been relatively obedient.
“Then why don’t you bring him to the hospital for a check-up?”
“Would he even come? Last time he had a fever and refused no matter what. Now that he’s not sick, there’s even less chance he’d go.”
Bai Yu said, “Didn’t you used to be so confident about wanting him to regain his memory? Why are you worried now?”
Song Yunfei replied, “I was worried back then too. I just thought that once he regained his memory, I’d immediately run away—if I could escape.”
Bai Yu chuckled. “Have you ever imagined that after regaining his memory, he might forgive you because he loves you?”
Song Yunfei quickly denied it. “No way, no way.”
“You also said that once his memory returns, his world would be much bigger—so rich and colorful. What would I even count as in that?” Her voice grew softer, tinged with a hint of dejection.
Moreover, she herself wasn’t an ambitious person. Thinking about the complicated world of wealthy families made her instinctively retreat.
So even if she still held a small place in Chu Jinhan’s heart, she didn’t want to sacrifice her freedom just to force herself into a world that didn’t belong to her.
Moreover, his family would definitely not forgive her. She didn’t even dare imagine how difficult life would be then.
“Stop overthinking. Find a way to get him to go for a check-up—whether he’s regained his memory will be obvious at a glance.”
“What way?”
“Knock him out and bring him over.”
“…Goodbye.”
In truth, Bai Yu wasn’t entirely certain either. He had already asked around—during the days Chu Jinhan was supposedly on a business trip, no one had seen him in Haishi.
Even his close friends hadn’t seen him. Because of that, Bai Yu wasn’t sure whether he had really gone on a business trip.
——
The next day.
When Song Yunfei got up and saw the familiar figure in the kitchen, she felt that she had been overthinking things.
Although she leaned toward the idea that he hadn’t regained his memory—after all, based on the personality described in the novel after recovery, she would probably already be working in a sweatshop by now.
But Bai Yu had a point: she needed to find a way to take him for a check-up.
Chu Jinhan had already changed out of his business trip clothes and into the turtleneck base layer they had bought together at the supermarket.
He came out carrying breakfast and saw Song Yunfei standing sneakily at the doorway, frowning one moment and sighing the next.
“Time to eat.”
Song Yunfei snapped back to her senses and responded with an “oh.”
She ate breakfast absentmindedly, occasionally sneaking glances at the man opposite her.
He looked perfectly normal, as if the dangerous man from last night had just been an illusion.
Song Yunfei felt a slight stir in her heart and called out to him, “Chu Jinhan.”
He looked up at her. “What is it?”
She cleared her throat and smiled. “Didn’t you say last night that you wanted to have a child?”
Chu Jinhan paused his movements and stared directly at her, as if waiting for her to continue.
Song Yunfei: “How about we go for a physical check-up first?”
Chu Jinhan studied her face for a moment. “And then have a baby after?”
Song Yunfei let out a dry laugh and forced herself to continue, “More or less. After the New Year, once we get our marriage certificate, we can have one. For now, we can just prepare in advance.”
Chu Jinhan withdrew his gaze and continued eating, appearing uninterested. “Then we’ll go after the New Year.”
Song Yunfei’s lips twitched slightly. He wasn’t falling for it.
She continued persuading him, “Let’s go now, okay? It won’t take long anyway.”
Chu Jinhan pondered briefly. “Can I go into the bedroom tonight?”
Song Yunfei couldn’t quite laugh anymore. Based on her current level of anger, he wouldn’t be stepping into the bedroom for the next month.
But in order to get him to go for the check-up, she could only agree with tears in her heart. “If you go for the check-up with me, you can come back to the bedroom tonight.”
“Alright.”
Song Yunfei froze. He actually agreed?
She had thought it would take a lot of effort, but it turned out to be this easy.
She was so happy that she didn’t even feel as angry about him calling her a zombie anymore.
“Alright, then let’s go after we finish eating.”
“Don’t you need to fast for the check-up?”
Song Yunfei paused. That seemed to be the case. So she promptly took away the breakfast in front of Chu Jinhan.
“Then don’t eat. I’ll help you eat it.”
Chu Jinhan looked at her speechlessly.
“Aren’t you getting a check-up too?”
The egg she was about to put into her mouth froze mid-air. Song Yunfei awkwardly put it back and laughed. “I forgot. I won’t eat, I won’t eat.”
